Childfree Mumsnetters' Board?

There's been some discussion on this thread about the idea of a childfree/life without children board, so I thought I would raise the suggestion on Site Stuff

My thinking is that the board would be a safe space for Mumsnetters who, for whether by choice or making the best of the hand they've been dealt, are embracing the childfree life, to discuss the issues that uniquely affect us - some examples I can think of are discrimination when it comes to workplace holidays; planning for old age and inheritance issues, how to cope when your friendship group only want to meet in child-friendly venues; family pressure to have children.

I would also hope it might stop so many threads like the linked one popping up, which often attract goady posters.

I hope you don't feel this is a step too far as a board suggestion and will give it serious consideration.

Would also really appreciate an update as to whether a new board is being considered.

I imagine the silence is to hope the request took go away -
If they say yes, they will be inundated with the only mummies matter brigade going on about their space being invaded by the awful ‘child haters’ and if they say no they’ll have to deal with the same lot gloating about how right they are about how awful the ‘child haters’ are and how unwelcome we are.

I think mumsnet HQ needs a solid look at the future of this site, and how they want to maintain and grow users. Seems to me adding a space for people without children would be a sensible business decision as other online spaces close down or become unusable. And given how badly their advertisement revenue has been hit, might open up some new streams of income.

Yes, I noticed that. I think that might be an outlier, though, considering how long it took MNHQ to agree to both the Black Mumsnetters and Neurodiverse Mumsnetters boards

If you look at what mumsnet says to its advertisers it's clear they really focus on the site being for parents.

My guess is that they've positioned themselves in that way in the market for a reason and they're going to be loathe to do anything to change it. And they wont relish having to explain why advertisers who've paid to put their ads in front of parents are being asked to pay for page views on a mumsnot board.

Why dont these childfree by choice folk start their own board. And they would attract all the right people and advertisers.

So I often see choldfree people complain when children are brought into areas and environments guard to adults and disrupt the vibe and the feel of the place....

So this is a place for parents by parents....this isn't the place for this imo. Go to reddit where there are designated childfree boards and AiBU etc

Adverts - on my screen at the moment - Argos promoting Apple watches; EE & BT some deal on i-phone 14 and some company I've never heard of offering to register your business for free. All of which would have just as much appeal to non-parents as parents. According to popular myth, we childfree people are more likely to have money to splash on the latest i-phone I can dream.

Lufthansa flight deals has now replaced the business thing - again, just perfect for us with our high-powered careers and ten holidays a year 😂

But, as stated many times, that's not the point. We are not looking to flounce. We like it here. We like chatting with mums. We'd just like our own little corner, like the sporners and the pedants and the cat-lovers and everyone else who has a topic for People Like Them.

But parents still like talking about things that are not their kids.
All of those still relate to the MN target audience.

It’s good that nobody is proposing taking away any of the existing boards, then.

What’s being proposed is a new board to discuss things that arise when you’re a person without kids.

If mums want to talk about that then that’d be welcome on the new board. But at the moment there’s no appropriate space and if you try to start a thread on this on one of the main boards you get sixteen thousand comments of “it’s called MUMSnet!!!!”
