It never used to be there before. It doesn't really seem appropriate with some of the titles.

I suspect the real decision makers are the advertisers.

Who may be questioning their ad buy given the potential confusion about the MN brand and what it stands for.

AnneKipankitoo · 19/02/2023 11:43

I suspect the real decision makers are on holiday.

Or not arsed. Or counting their money.

Helleofabore · 18/02/2023 23:35

Bloody brilliant post there LangClegsInSpace.

This expresses my feelings perfectly.
I've asked MNHQ to bring it to the attention of the MN decision-makers.

I'm finding it very annoying that MN are reading this thread and deleting comments, but have not responded to any of the questions or requests that have been made.

I think it's probable that we'll hear from someone more senior at MNHQ after the weekend.

I hope so anyway.

lovem · 20/02/2023 11:19

Morning @mnhq, just wondering what the plans are for discussing and replying about this?

MotherofTerriers · 20/02/2023 11:57

Top pinned (?) post in sex topic is "what do you look for in kids tv"
Does make me wonder who Mumsnet is trying to attract to the site
I'm off to mash buttons and try to hide it

Well posters who have kids and watch TV with them and also posters who have sex. The 2 are the same type of people you know.

HJ40 · 20/02/2023 12:11

Still no reply and not even a reply to the qs about the app Hmm

everywhichway · 20/02/2023 12:14

While we're waiting to hear from MNHQ about how they intend to resolve things around the Sex Topic and the Active threads list (hopefully to remove the former from the latter!), I've been doing a bit of delving into the circumstances behind the taking down of the original sexchat thread. It's still a bit of mystery, but this is the closest that I think we came to finding out. Becky was responding to one of several questions from users of that thread about why it had suddenly disappeared.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 22/10/2022 10:15

Hi all - not sure which thread it was, exactly - if you've got any more info we're happy to take a look. We were made aware of disagreements happening on another platform that had made their way here and derailed a thread.
^^
FWIW, we've no problem with a sex chat thread among consenting adults!

It was shortly after this that the current sexchat thread commenced.

kittensinthekitchen · 20/02/2023 13:24

Think this thread is the perfect example of @MNHQ sticking their fingers in their ears and singing "La la la" and hoping we pesky freeloaders go quiet.

Okunevo · 20/02/2023 13:25

Any update @HopeMumsnet@LilyMumsnet? Surely there's been time for a Monday morning discussion?

I'm always amused by folk bleating 'any update' on long running 'should I kick him out' type threads but here you're actually asking the staff to update you.

Here's my advice. I presume they'll update once they've discussed it and reached a conclusion. Until then maybe avert your eyes from active..just in case Shock.

I didn't ask for your advice.

Sex sells... More traffic more money 🤑🤑🤑💰💰💰

Surplus2requirements · 20/02/2023 17:27

At least that was less abusive than previous threads 🙂

LilyMumsnet · 20/02/2023 17:41

Hi all

We don't yet have any updates on this and would ask in the meantime that you hide the topic. We're taking all feedback on board.

HJ40 · 20/02/2023 17:53

The irony...

@LilyMumsnet those of us on the app are still waiting for you to tell us how we are able to hide the topic!

ErrolTheDragon · 20/02/2023 18:05

Didn't someone explain that already?
Go to the menu in the top left and click My Mumsnet. Then click the link at the bottom of the page (something like More My Mumsnet settings).
This will dump you out into the browser... I'm guessing if you're not logged into that you'll need to log in.
You should get to a page with a menu down the left from which you pick Talk Settings. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Manage hidden threads and topics button
you should then see lists of topics to hide or unhide.

Yes... it's a bit reminiscent of

“But the plans were on display…”
“On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.”
“That’s the display department.”
“With a flashlight.”
“Ah, well, the lights had probably gone.”
“So had the stairs.”
“But look, you found the notice, didn’t you?”
“Yes,” said Arthur, “yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard.”

Why is Sex topic now in Active?
AWaferThinMint · 20/02/2023 18:09

TBF @ErrolTheDragon I have done that, but if Mumsnet's solution to a problem is to hide it and large numbers of people use the app, maybe they should have that function in app.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/02/2023 18:11

Yes - I'd have thought they could add checkboxes for show/hide to the Topics list, alongside the stars for setting Favourites.

LangClegsInSpace · 20/02/2023 18:24

Thank you @LilyMumsnet Would it be possible to give us a rough idea of when we can expect a full update?

Also can we expect an update on all the issues raised? I.e. why you have decided to put sex threads in active, why you have drastically reduced the waiting time before new members can post there, why you have decided a male-heavy sex hookup thread is in the spirit of Mumsnet and at what point you decided that attracting heavy breathers, pervy trolls and weirdies in nutshells was a brilliant idea after all?

If this has all been done in order to create a more conducive marketing environment for the purveyors of shrek's ear and you absolutely can't get out of the contract, can you please at least give us an end date for the promotion so we have some idea of when things can get back to normal?

The hookup thread needs to go. Please tell me you did not agree to host a sex hookup thread as part of this advertising deal?

LilyMumsnet · 20/02/2023 17:41

Hi all

Given that some posters on the app are still unable to hide the topic, and several posters report hiding it only for it to pop up again, and nobody actively wants sex threads in active except MNHQ Hmm, why can't you hide the topic in the meantime?

LangClegsInSpace · 20/02/2023 18:45

Rhondaa · 20/02/2023 12:09

They don't do these things in the same room at the same time though do they?

This is the problem MNHQ. By making decisions like this you encourage people with a very poor sense of boundaries.
