Why is Sex topic now in Active?

It never used to be there before. It doesn't really seem appropriate with some of the titles.

"Pearl clutching" is always a huge tell isn't it? Just the age old misogyny against women, some of whom could see exactly where society was heading in terms of porn and objectification of women. The modern equivalent is "Karen".

And they’re over on that board saying we’re ‘jealous and probably not getting any’ and such comments. That shows who they are.

Reminds me of when I turned a bloke down in real life 20 years ago and got called a ‘frigid lesbian’.

lovem · 18/02/2023 15:21

Yy @HeartInDrive. Really weird how those posters like to go on about "prudishness" and "opening your eyes" too.

I mean, it's Mumsnet - a place filled with women who mostly had kids and therefore must have logically had sex at some point, right? Do they think that everyone else here just doesn't enjoy one of life's best things?

Honestly I can only assume that the ones who obsess about it are not quite getting enough in real life - it would explain it as a kind of projection.

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 18/02/2023 16:21

Ironically it seems like it’s the majority of them that aren’t getting any if the meet up thread is anything to go by… 😂

RainbowZebraWarrior · 18/02/2023 14:54

The problem is that some of the people on the sex chat thread are actually meeting up irl. So MN is facilitating this.

And there was a massive issue on a long running thread a couple of years ago too with a male poster meeting up with different women. One very vulnerable one. I suspect it's the same one others have mentioned.

That was another desperado, same long running thread.

Brainbleachplease · 18/02/2023 16:50

Genuinely surprised MN is allowing a thread for sex chats too. Wtf is going on here! The men getting wank fodder for free would be paying on fab or some other sex chat. Really it's so so grim

You mean that people that need to post on mumsnet to get off or for instructions on how to have sex don't have any real sex life? I don't believe you Shock

Why do they all type 'cum' ? Gives me the boak.

Ugggh me too.

lovem · 18/02/2023 17:13

Sorry, I know I've posted a lot on this today, but do you know what, it is SUCH a fucking shame that there isn't even one place left on the internet where predatory men can't spend their days (or more often nights) sniffing out sex.

Mumsnet rejected the idea of a sex topic in the old days knowing what it would turn into, and lo and behold.

BIWI · 18/02/2023 17:53

The idea of Mumsnet having a sex topic where women could find a safe place to discuss sex and any issues they have with it, is fine.

Still preferable to not include it in Active, partly to allow vulnerable posters to post in a rather more hidden way (like some posters might use OTBT), and also because surely we wouldn't want to trigger those who have suffered from sexual assault and/or abuse?

The idea of restricting access to it for a long-ish period of time to discourage trolls is also a good one.

All of the above I can quite happily accept.

But what I can't fathom is why @MNHQ think it's acceptable to allow the sex chat threads - these are asking for trouble. Whether anyone thinks they're sleazy or not is neither here nor there. It's basically changing the whole nature of the sex topic away from a place where women/posters - if we have to accept men - can discuss their issues and ask for help, to somewhere that's just about hook-ups.

Is that really what Mumsnet is about these days?

What happened to the site that wouldn't take adverts from certain companies because they were considered unethical or even just didn't share the same values as Mumsnet?

Are we really, now, all just about the profit motive? Revenue for Mumsnet at all costs, and regardless of what its content providers think or want?

The silence from @MNHQ - apart from the occasional holding post insisting that they're listening, and the deletions which show that they're reading this thread - is very telling.

This is a decision that's been made at a senior level within the company - so it's clearly a strategic change for the business.

Sparklingbrook · 18/02/2023 18:04

I naively thought a thread titled SexChat was for everyone to talk about sex but nothing in particular. So just chatting in general.
I didn’t realise it was basically a thread to hook up with random strangers on the internet.
Interesting that the first thread got deleted but nobody seems to know what the message said.

BIWI · 18/02/2023 18:11

Oh, and @Sparklingbrook, if you ever offer me a hot chocolate, don't be offended if I refuse ... Wink

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 18/02/2023 18:13

Has anyone asked for this change?

It seems really unpopular - and is likely to change when we view the material or probably even who is here.

There's nothing wrong with sex or chat about it - but it is one subject that is not appropriate in all situations.

Ha ha 🤣 what on earth did I mean when I said velvetiser?

I’ve now gone down a very expensive googling tunnel, and ended up looking at £800 coffee frothing, funky coffee machines. All very sharp looking, shiny steel and black.

Womaniser possibly?

You are spectacularly missing the point there @Janiie or perhaps deliberately

Sparklingbrook · 18/02/2023 20:09

So the women on chats in the sex board are prostitutes?

🤦‍♀️

Fatandpregnantagain · 18/02/2023 20:10

OK - only been loosely following this but I’d really, really like to know why @mathanxiety s post was removed. There was nothing deletion worthy in it at all.

I got deleted for saying 'flouncer' so anything can happen. Confused

mathanxiety · 18/02/2023 20:17

No, @Janiie you have twisted my words out of all recognition. I have to assume on purpose because my wording was very clear. I will refrain from commenting on your motive for the complete reshaping of what I posted.

Fatandpregnantagain · 18/02/2023 20:19

Janiie might have twisted them; more worrying is the fact whoever is on duty tonight either didn’t read them or didn’t understand them.

When an area goes to seed, which is essentially what @mathanxiety was saying, you get sordid types and that impacts on everybody Hmm

Exactly. It was nothing to do with women on here being prostitutes. Hmm
