Why is Sex topic now in Active?

It never used to be there before. It doesn't really seem appropriate with some of the titles.

I really don't like the first thread I see in Active being 'help with Anal' its 6.30am I haven't even had a cup of tea.

I agree with the poster up thread - no one originally on the sex topic is going to want people telling them how to disinfect their sex toys and no one who wasn't on the sex topic is going to want random threads appearing when they weren't expecting it (for example while reading Mumsnet with a child climbing on their lap?). They might even want to visit the sex topic sometimes but they probably want to do so by choice (a key theme in sex) rather than having to somehow opt out.

Poor decision I think here Mumsnet.

I usually scroll through MN when I'm with my kids - I can't do this if I and they are likely to see threads about anal and flesh lights, it's so uncomfortable.

Thank you, I've been trying to work this out for days. Why isn't there a drop down "hide this board" button if you navigate to the sex topic? Would be far simpler.

I am no prude and don’t mind the sex topic being there but having it forced on me when I’m gently scrolling is really, really off putting.

I'd also like to know how to hide the topic in the app.

Mumsnet- are you going to remove the troll posts from the sex board? Some 'funny' person spamming every thread with recipes. If not I assume its fair game to troll the sex board??

Same. I turned round to find my 11 yo reading over my shoulder as I scrolled through Active yesterday. I'll won't be scrolling through Active in the staffroom anymore either.

Seeing fairly explicit thread titles sit alongside threads asking for weaning advice and baby names is making me very uncomfortable.

Some of the posters over there are whining that their little creepy corner has been invaded

Click on the person picture go to settings, more settings, hide topics enter sex and you can hide it.

I'm the poster upthread who got deleted and suspended for asking for advice when my teenage son got involved with using a 'device' I didn't know about.

I feel sad that due to this being the 'sex' topic I was treated like I was. As a pervert. I'm not. I'm a mid 40s mum worried about their son.

I thought it was a parenting site. Where are parents meant to post if the sex section is for perverts etc?

I opened up Mumsnet in a hospital waiting room yesterday. I was immediately embarrassed to see active littered with sex topics!
I am seriously reconsidering my use of Mumsnet...

On a website where the general standard of writing and discussion is pretty good, it was really striking how fucking stupid every post on that thread was.

It's possible to discuss sex in an interesting, intelligent way (Georges Bataille. Nancy Friday. Etc.) But it's not happening there. Just a lot of very stupid people with nothing to say doing crap flirting with each other.

It's awful.

All this stuff gets filtered straight through to my junk folder in my email account.
