Why is Sex topic now in Active?

It never used to be there before. It doesn't really seem appropriate with some of the titles.

With all due respect you’re not listening in the slightest. Posters are telling you loud and clear, over multiple threads and in multiple sections, that they’re not happy about this.

A lot of them don’t want sleaze, and tacky posts and over sexed men all over their active feed. A lot of people might be looking at the forum at work or in their homes with children around. They simply don’t want this and it seems from wha people are saying that you’ve (not you personally) made this very difficult for them to hide the topic.

And for those of us who want to read the sex section, the threads are being taken over with people moaning about the sleaze and men and flesh lights etc.

You seem to be pleasing no one at the moment.

Exactly this

BruceAndNosh · 17/02/2023 19:38

the sex topic should be something you opt in for, not the default setting

beastlyslumber · 17/02/2023 19:42

Exactly. It needs to be an opt in. Definitely not an opt-out-except-you-can't-opt-out-for-some-reason-that-no-one-can-adequately-explain.

MN's response so far is insulting.

QueueEtwo · 17/02/2023 19:57

I sort of think it might be a good thing!

The whole flesh light thing is fucking grim but now it's in Active people are asking how you clean one & can it go in the dishwasher!

I think you'd have to be pretty hardcore to be getting off on that thread now! 🤣

Why is a flesh light grim though? Plenty of women have sex toys.

A woman bought it and asked for tips on using it with her husband.

How grim and shameful....apparently

Of course she did.

No, some topics are still kept off Active, so it's disingenuous of MNHQ to claim that they've moved sex to Active because they 'don't want to exclude some parts of MN'. I think 30 days only and SEN parenting are kept off it. Also OTBT (off the beaten track). I wish they'd tell the truth and listen to the people who are unhappy but neither seems to be happening.

Yes, I wish they'd be honest.

This is so obviously a commercial decision. Sex up the site and attract shrek's ear sponsorship and ad revenue.

We're not stupid.

Nobody wants this. The most vocal advocate for the topic remaining in active doesn't care either way.

The only people who actively want sex threads in active are MNHQ.

I daresay they'd be pushing the SEN boards onto active if disabled people were as profitable as sex people Hmm

I haven't seen anyone object to the reinstatement of 90 days waiting period either. MNHQ have not explained why they cut this to 7 days without consultation.

I'd like to see the hookup thread gone as well. I do think that is attracting some pervy men that MN would be better off without. I know the sex people will disagree but you have the whole rest of the internet for that. Set up a discord or something.

Sparklingbrook · 17/02/2023 20:13

Did she buy it in Tesco? In the Flesh light aisle? And got dishwasher tablets at the same time?

Surplus2requirements · 17/02/2023 20:14

LucyLeave · 17/02/2023 20:04

Of course she did.

I'm sorry but if you think it's a man fishing for dirty replies so they can all get their rocks off, have you read the thread?

I couldn't get a semi to any of that if I tried...maybe its my age 😖

I've never used one but there appears to be some good, respectful and non judgemental advice

AutumnLeavesFallingIntoPlace · 17/02/2023 20:19

I commented on another thread about this in conjunction with the Promoted by Mumsnet stuff - not just the vibrator ad but also the horrible 'Reigniting Intimacy' piece which advocates waking up mothers of newborn babies after a bad night's sleep for sex 🙃It's written in partnership with Ann Summers; is it all connected? Have Ann Summers paid a big wodge of advertising cash in exchange for having all the sex stuff pop up everywhere? If so, can I just say that Ann Summers is a tacky, nasty fire hazard of a shop that exists for nightmare hen dos and is a really poor fit for Mumsnet? It's so nice having a largely female-dominated corner of the internet; it's an unpleasant surprise having this section full of blokes all over Active.

ForestLilac · 17/02/2023 20:20

@LangClegsInSpace now that idea to set up a discord is a GREAT idea!

I'm sorry but you think that women talking about getting men off never turns men on? Was that thread not supposed to be tell me how to get my husband off by telling me tales of how you got your husband off vecause that's what it looked like to me.

It's the modern collective equivalent of get a fucking room.

Can I add my voice to those that want the topic removed from the active posts.

Maybe you're right but still there's nothing in there that's remotely pornographic or disrespectful.

Why should the woman have her thread pulled apart, condemned as grim and openly laughed at in the most disrespectful way across MN?

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/02/2023 20:47

All great reasons to keep it out of Active.

Sparklingbrook · 17/02/2023 21:01

Well if all the snowflakes/WI members(still don’t get that one) /pearl clutchers are supposedly over here on this thread, then the people over in the Sex Topic must be the resilient robust cool ones. So they wouldn’t give a toss their threads were being discussed as a result of the threads being all over Active.

I fully support it being taken off active, given greater restricted access and zero tolerance modding.

QueueEtwo · 17/02/2023 21:21

Honestly I think fleshlights are grim & I don't like porn either but my post wasn't meant to shame anyone!
But the fact that these threads are now coming up in Active, it was inevitable that people would start talking about head torches & putting it in the dishwasher with a splash of dettol because that's what a lot of Mumsnet talks about!

I did find that quite funny!

What this has shown though is that the people on the sex topic don't want tips on disinfecting their sex toys, and other people don't want to read tips about wanking off their husbands while they're eating their tea!

So just take the sex topic out of Active again! 🤷‍♀️

I’m genuinely puzzled by the hatred for flesh lights, I’ve seen other people say it too so this isn’t aimed at you. Women have sex toys, bullets, rabbits, velvetisers etc, to me a flesh light is simply a male version of these isn’t it?

Sparklingbrook · 17/02/2023 21:33

I have a Velvetiser. I use it to make hot chocolate. 😮
