Why is Sex topic now in Active?

It never used to be there before. It doesn't really seem appropriate with some of the titles.

Hmm..that's not very useful is it

Hi all

We are listening to feedback and taking it all on board. We don't have any updates yet, but we are aware of your thoughts on this and will continue to discuss it our end.

I haven't seen a reply on how to hide topics in the app?

You posted at ca. 4pm on a Friday so I assume we have to put up with this unwanted crap all weekend?

As with pp, no pearls being clutched here, but there's a time and a place for everything and the sex topic isn't what I want to see when I'm browsing mn.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 17/02/2023 17:01

I don't know about anyone else but I don't fancy seeing "fishy smell when he comes inside me" at teatime

BentleyRhythmAce · 17/02/2023 17:04

@LilyMumsnet is it or is it not possible to hide topics on the app? It's a really simple question that I and others have asked numerous times. It shouldn't affect your marketing, which is the reason the sex topic has been moved to active, so I'm not clear on the reluctance to answer?

SirVixofVixHall · 17/02/2023 17:13

I hate this too. I don’t want to see some of these thread titles when I am often sitting scrolling next to dd, or in a cafe.
I think I have managed to hide the topic by going into my settings, time will tell.
Out of interest do all topics now show in active ? Or are some excluded ? And if they are why not exclude the sex topic ?

No, some topics are still kept off Active, so it's disingenuous of MNHQ to claim that they've moved sex to Active because they 'don't want to exclude some parts of MN'. I think 30 days only and SEN parenting are kept off it. Also OTBT (off the beaten track). I wish they'd tell the truth and listen to the people who are unhappy but neither seems to be happening.

Rhondaa · 17/02/2023 17:34

'Well, yes, Janiie, that's exactly what this thread is about. You've finally got it! well done. Took long ebloodynough.'

No need to tell me off hun, I'm offering another view that is all. I'm not bothered by terms of a sexual nature showing in active, I don't have kids with microscopic eyesight looking over my shoulders and apparently randomly asking what words on mn mean and I'm not alarmed by the sight of sex toys. Yes, if it was a great big dildo I'd understand the concern but that green whisper thing surely, surely isn't upsetting? How can some women be so shocked by sex toys.

Just hide the topic, go back to the first pages there's plenty of folk explaining how to. Amusing though a few posters going on (and on) about how horrified they'd been to read such and such on there. Don't read it then! Grin

There are subjects I don't like reading about, they are very easy to ignore.

You can say 'cunt' on here but 'hun' is frowned upon.

Rhondaa · 17/02/2023 17:49

I don't think you can say cunt tbh, I'm sure I'd get deleted if I did. You try it first.

I just went into my settings to hide the sex topic , and was surprised to see in my list of already hidden topics (I assume, as they were available to unhide) not only those but various innocuous-looking ones which I'm sure I wouldn't have hidden myself. Confused

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 17/02/2023 18:07

I just want to be able to hide a topic and not see it in active. Every other topic I've hidden stays hidden except the sex topic

You just said it twice.

We can't call each other cunts meanly. But saying it is fine.

Hun on the other hand <shudder>

wibblewobbleball · 17/02/2023 18:59

Seriously I don't want to see "using a flashlight on DH", "fishy smell when he comes inside me" or anything of that nature it's so so off putting 🤢 I've tried to hide the topic but I must be doing it wrong as I'm still seeing it. So horrible.

Getir · 17/02/2023 19:03

Why do they all type 'cum' ? Gives me the boak.

AnneKipankitoo · 17/02/2023 19:04

Well , I have just had sex come up in active for the first time. Weird.

AnneKipankitoo · 17/02/2023 19:05

MNHQ , you need to sort this.

Mumsanetta · 17/02/2023 19:06

Grim.

Why is Sex topic now in Active?
SauteedOwl · 17/02/2023 19:09

But look how helpful all the men are! They're happy to assist with the ins and outs of flesh light usage!

But then look on the sex chat thread. Unhappy women who've been 'ghosted' after sex chat with blokes they've found on Mumsnet , women being dumped after their wives have found out what they're doing.. all sorts

And MN still think this is the right place for a sex forum ...

thetrees · 17/02/2023 19:15

Agree the fleshlight and fishy smell threads are pretty rank, I really don't want to see them popping up with no warning

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/02/2023 19:16

Sorry I did snigger at this.

I'm clearly not grown up enough yet.

Getir · 17/02/2023 19:21

I expect some of the men on there are very familiar with the ins and outs of flesh lights. 🤣

Hi all

We are listening to feedback and taking it all on board. We don't have any updates yet, but we are aware of your thoughts on this and will continue to discuss it our end.

With all due respect you’re not listening in the slightest. Posters are telling you loud and clear, over multiple threads and in multiple sections, that they’re not happy about this.

A lot of them don’t want sleaze, and tacky posts and over sexed men all over their active feed. A lot of people might be looking at the forum at work or in their homes with children around. They simply don’t want this and it seems from wha people are saying that you’ve (not you personally) made this very difficult for them to hide the topic.

And for those of us who want to read the sex section, the threads are being taken over with people moaning about the sleaze and men and flesh lights etc.

You seem to be pleasing no one at the moment.
