Totally inappropriate enormous vibrator adverts now ALL over Mumnset.

What on earth are you thinking of? Is Mumsnet really that short of cash that they have to stoop this low?

Not to mention the ridiculous woke language ie "people with wombs".

Totally inappropriate on ALL levels.

How tasteful. I've been seeing those for a couple of days, didn't really think to complain.

Sex in motherhood has never been taboo or we'd all be only children and after a few generations the human race would have died out Hmm

cofeetablebook · 02/02/2023 11:21

I used to have a volvo but it wasn't womby enough...

ancientgran · 02/02/2023 11:21

ValerieDoonican · 02/02/2023 11:05

Oh absolutely not. The holy act of procreation should not be sullied by any pleasure on the part if the receptacle, should it?

So I got that bit wrong as well. Hangs my head in shame.

And the irony of the ad appearing on this thread

It's a screenshot posted by a pp for those of us who didn't know what this is about

Hamjam · 02/02/2023 11:21

AllOutofEverything · 02/02/2023 11:19

@Hamjam Fine you are cool with sex toys adverts. I am not. I do not go to places on the internet that have adverts like this.

you don’t need to be rude about it, I said I was open for discussion about it but I thought that talking about women’s sex is a good thing. There’s no need for an attitude towards me for having a different opinion to you 🙄

TheOrigRights · 02/02/2023 11:21

AllOutofEverything · 02/02/2023 11:18

Can someone recommend a free adblocker?
I am not okay with sex toys adverts.
I have never before seen sex toys adverts on the internet and do not want them now.

I use Brave browser (which was recommended to me by another MN user).
I have it just for MN and it has made the site usable now.

Pasithean · 02/02/2023 11:22

No vibrator ads
no singing Delilah on saturday ( fat chance).

what’s next. Vera, silent witness Anything showing any kind of violence towards anybody or anything.

Riverlee · 02/02/2023 11:22

Hamjam · 02/02/2023 11:17

I can’t see the bit about vulva owners or about sex in motherhood being taboo and obviously that’s not acceptable, but this advert is fine, isn’t it? Isn’t it better to be open about women’s sexual pleasure? Why can’t Mumsnet advertise vibrators? Surely if your kids see it just tell them it’s an air freshener. Sorry if I’m being obtuse but I’m lost on what is wrong with it. I’d rather we were celebrating women getting sexual pleasure than whispering about it behind our hands. But happy to be told otherwise as I may just be being a bit dense!

It’s not the product as such, but the language used in the advert. And possibly also whether the advert should be allowed to pop up on a site where children could be around.

AllOutofEverything · 02/02/2023 11:23

@Hamjam Apologies. But I really do not understand why I need to explain why I do not want to see adverts about sex toys.
Sex toys is not the same as sex. People have been having sex for thousands of years without them.

The man who took my womb out might potentially still have it. Should I get him one of these?

Is this some kind of sociology research project?

👏🏻

I cant believe MN are on board with this bollocks tbh.

Ive just been reading the reviews, I can only presume MNHQ got a batch sent to them.

It pays. That’s all mumsnet is about, now. If they ever had any scruples they’re long gone.

Thanks! I will look into this.

SleepingStandingUp · 02/02/2023 11:24

Smile makers is such an icky name for a vibrator company who work with mumsnet.

Ooh look Mommy, that thing makes you smile!! Can I have one??

MuckyPlucky · 02/02/2023 11:24

cofeetablebook · 02/02/2023 11:21

I used to have a volvo but it wasn't womby enough...

Wins award for funniest ever thing said by anyone. Ever. 🤣

Riverlee · 02/02/2023 11:25

Maybe there should be an ad watershed. Ie, only be allowed to pop up after 9pm. You wouldn’t have a vibrator ad on daytime tv, and I think the feeling is the same here.

dutysuite · 02/02/2023 11:25

I don’t like it either, it gives the impression I’ve been searching for vibrators because we all know that we get targeted with specific ads if we’ve searched for something.

purpledalmation · 02/02/2023 11:25

50/50 on this.

😂😂😂

GoodChat · 02/02/2023 11:26

Are the phrases everyone's offended by on the full advert? I couldn't see them on the screenshot shared by another poster.

YesitsBess · 02/02/2023 11:26

cofeetablebook · 02/02/2023 11:21

Don't give them any more ideas! First Shrek then the poor Wombles!

The tagine will be: underground overground...

CherylMumsnet · 02/02/2023 11:26

Hi everyone - thanks for your comments. We appreciate the strength of feeling. Clearly, some of the wording used is unpopular with many of you. We’re going to discuss all the points raised with Smile Makers and will get back to you asap. Please do continue to share your thoughts - we are listening.

MuckyPlucky · 02/02/2023 11:27

In all seriousness though, I’m so sickened by this whole issue (in particular the fact MN have exposed themselves as trans apologists) that I’m seriously considering leaving, as I don’t want to associate myself with this ‘people with wombs’ utter bullshit. I’ve been a member for 12 years.

Anyone else contemplating leaving with me?

Newtonsnipple · 02/02/2023 11:27

Did this company do any research on mumsnet users at all?

Great start. Pissing off the majority of the platform you are advertising on.

ImprobablePuffin · 02/02/2023 11:27

Whoever wrote all that nauseating blurb could have saved an awful lot of time if they'd just gone with the word 'women'.

It's like a masterclass in how to alienate your core demographic.

Hellybelly84 · 02/02/2023 11:29

It deserves a complaint alone just for ‘vulva owners’…Women was the word they were looking for.

Agree completely with the complaint.
