Totally inappropriate enormous vibrator adverts now ALL over Mumnset.

What on earth are you thinking of? Is Mumsnet really that short of cash that they have to stoop this low?

Not to mention the ridiculous woke language ie "people with wombs".

Totally inappropriate on ALL levels.

This is the most offensive ad I’ve seen in a long time. Jesus mumsnet, “vulva owners”? REALLY?

mumsnet is becoming a joke. I wish there was a worthy competitor to flee too (I hate Reddit).

agree about the “toys for the bedroom” article as well.

Brefugee · 02/02/2023 11:14

‘For mothers and vulva owners’

I'll join in the chorus of: Use. The. Word. Woman.
How about "for women and other people with vulvas"?

One of the big complaints by feminists and other women is that we get reduced to either a function (mum) or body part (vulva owners). What are you thinking? I really would like to know the MN process that lead to that absolute dog's dinner of a phrase.

Mypoorbody · 02/02/2023 11:14

I have a ad blocker so this ad leading to this thread has done its job because I’ve now heard of the product. Wouldn’t buy it though even if I was looking.

Sex taboo for mothers - yes when I was a teenager thinking about my own DParemts. As MN doesn’t seem to just have posts about only children or multiple births otherwise not so much.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 02/02/2023 11:15

They’ve managed to alienate a lot of people with their fuckwitted ‘advertising’ campaign. If they can’t even get that remotely right I’m wondering what sort of research they’ve done for their product. Stop selling out, mumsnet. Are you really that desperate?

Yingyamgwingwen · 02/02/2023 11:15

That's what I thought! I use an ad blocker so I can't see them at all!

OldFan · 02/02/2023 11:15

I use adblock and I don't get any adverts.

Riverlee · 02/02/2023 11:15

My young adult dc has just came in and glanced over at what I was writing (see below) and saw the vibrator advert - one embarrassed mum!

Also have had a hysterectomy and still enjoy the use of a vibrator (second blush of post).

What I started writing was that The advert says Color and not Colour so there’s a spelling mistake as well.

(and in-laws used to own a volvo, so does that count).

ShirleyPhallus · 02/02/2023 11:16

I’m never sure why they can’t say “women and trans men”. It’s inclusive. Do trans people really want to also be described as vulva havers or whatever nonsense?

Christmasisshit · 02/02/2023 11:16

Poorly done, Mumsnet.
Et tu, Brute?

DonatellaBella · 02/02/2023 11:17

RedCarsGoFaster · 02/02/2023 10:30

"anybody with a clitoris"?????

FFS, we're women!!! Women!!!

Why is the word women now taboo?

Massive fail by MN and the collaboration company.

Am I a TERF because I have a vulva and a clitoris? Apparently so.

The only good news is it's shit like this that is waking people up to the radical agenda to erase the female sex from real life and allow the trans agenda to overtake us.

Don't be daft, of course the word "women" isn't taboo - trans women are women and now own the word, so get with the programme. The rest of us old fashioned types of women are now reduced to our component parts for reference purposes.

There were adverts for sex chat lines a few years ago, took Mumsnet about a week to get rid of them

SalviaOfficinalis · 02/02/2023 10:04

@dirt

Advert link

I can’t see the bit about vulva owners or about sex in motherhood being taboo and obviously that’s not acceptable, but this advert is fine, isn’t it? Isn’t it better to be open about women’s sexual pleasure? Why can’t Mumsnet advertise vibrators? Surely if your kids see it just tell them it’s an air freshener. Sorry if I’m being obtuse but I’m lost on what is wrong with it. I’d rather we were celebrating women getting sexual pleasure than whispering about it behind our hands. But happy to be told otherwise as I may just be being a bit dense!

Yesthatismychildsigh · 02/02/2023 11:18

How can a company make a product for women when they don’t even know what a woman is.

AllOutofEverything · 02/02/2023 11:18

Can someone recommend a free adblocker?
I am not okay with sex toys adverts.
I have never before seen sex toys adverts on the internet and do not want them now.

Socrateswasrightaboutvoting · 02/02/2023 11:18

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 02/02/2023 10:09

Read that as Volvo owners and thought driving was going to get a lot more interesting

😂

Embelline · 02/02/2023 11:18

Actually I’m fine with the language if we can endure men are referred to as “penis owners” or “those with testicles” and not men or males.
Be consistent at least.

Embelline · 02/02/2023 11:19

ensure* ffs.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 02/02/2023 11:19

Oh ye gods. Don't know which is worse, the ad which is NSW, or the Wokeness. Does have an adblocker stop this nonsense? Asking for a friend. And actually, it's a bit 'niche' wanting to crack one out with Shrek's ear... Just sayin. Grin

AllOutofEverything · 02/02/2023 11:19

@Hamjam Fine you are cool with sex toys adverts. I am not. I do not go to places on the internet that have adverts like this.

PollyAmour · 02/02/2023 11:19

I think we are all grown up enough to know where to buy toys for the bedroom should we so desire. I'm not a fan of in yer face vibrator adverts either.

Youwhatnowbiggles · 02/02/2023 11:19

Sex in motherhood is taboo? Should those of us with more than one child be deeply embarrassed?! WTAF. Is this a Gerald Ratner moment for Mumsnet?

Vallmo47 · 02/02/2023 11:19

I agree with OP and hope Mumsnet addresses these errors of judgment.

Ostryga · 02/02/2023 11:19

Who on earth approved this at mumsnet. Vulva owners?!

SURELY by now you must know your target audience, by which I mean women. Not womb-havers or whatever other fucking silly term men are coming up with nowadays to not say W O M A N. It’s not a dirty word you know.

CousinKrispy · 02/02/2023 11:20

I'm seeing adverts for crisps and knitting wool, I think this says something about my buying habits :-(

Ostryga · 02/02/2023 11:20

I’ve used AdBlock Plus for years. It’s free and works brilliantly.
