Totally inappropriate enormous vibrator adverts now ALL over Mumnset.

What on earth are you thinking of? Is Mumsnet really that short of cash that they have to stoop this low?

Not to mention the ridiculous woke language ie "people with wombs".

Totally inappropriate on ALL levels.

Yes I agree , very inappropriate

lifeissweet · 02/02/2023 11:30

Having just come across a thread about rimming, I don't see many women on here pearl clutching about something as ordinary as masturbation or feeling that Mums having sex is a taboo. Patronising.

IlIlI · 02/02/2023 11:30

CoconutQueen · 02/02/2023 09:56

Mumsnet is for Mums. It's called Mumsnet. Thousands of women who may be looking at supportive threads with little ones on their laps or next to them.

What on earth are you thinking of?

That is exactly it. I avoid certain sites when DC around as they're always clambering over me or sitting on my lap. Mumsnet was a safe one!
And people with wombs 🙄 just, no!

Hi everyone - thanks for your comments. We appreciate the strength of feeling. Clearly, some of the wording used is unpopular with many of you. We’re going to discuss all the points raised with Smile Makers and will get back to you asap. Please do continue to share your thoughts - we are listening.

"Some of the wording"?

No no no no, read the room. This is an enormous issue and relates to trans politics. You need to decide where you stand and be consistent.

Either claim TWAW and alienate most of your female membership or accept that trans is much like a political or religious belief and is something that you will never be able to force upon us.

You need to be reviewing your own policies and practices, not discussing the wording of an advert. It's the entire ethos behind the damn words which are at fault and women won't wheesht any more.

Hellybelly84 · 02/02/2023 11:30

MuckyPlucky · 02/02/2023 11:27

In all seriousness though, I’m so sickened by this whole issue (in particular the fact MN have exposed themselves as trans apologists) that I’m seriously considering leaving, as I don’t want to associate myself with this ‘people with wombs’ utter bullshit. I’ve been a member for 12 years.

Anyone else contemplating leaving with me?

Agree…its all bullshit. I see the tide turning on it though and people are really fed up of it now.

bridgetreilly · 02/02/2023 11:30

Sex and motherhood is taboo? Like, do they even read the threads here because I’d say this is a subject people talk about ALL the time.

illtakeit · 02/02/2023 11:31

DISGUSTING.

Misses the point entirely.

Noone wants to buy the product now we know it’s marketed by trans apologists. The only thing this thread will have achieved is us telling Smile how to best bullshit us…You can cover a turd in glitter but it’s still a turd.

And I’m afraid MN has exposed itself to be willing to flog its soul to the devil. Have you head the expression ‘wanking for coins’?

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 02/02/2023 11:32

I have AdBlock on Chrome (it's free) and never see adverts. Also I'm not a vulva owner. It's not a pet or an item. :/

I think you'll find, @CherylMumsnet , that the wording is unpopular with 99% of the female population of the entire planet, not just here. Calling us 'vulva havers' and 'womb havers' is so utterly, disgracefully misogynistic and shows an intense hatred of women. You know, the people you rely on to keep this site going? Find the worthless pos from your side who 'okayed' these ads, (they were vetted, right? By someone in Mumsnet?) and sack them. That sort of person should not be working for you or have anything to do with a site that affects women. Only place they should be is a MensRightsNet incel site.

CoffeeRightNow · 02/02/2023 11:32

I don’t buy any products from companies who don’t know what a woman is. So, there’s that.

But even without the offensive, demeaning use of language in their blurb, I’m cringing at the idea of sex in motherhood being taboo. It’s so Victorian.

Mothers don’t have an issue with having sex. Maybe weird, creepy penis-having marketing guys do, though.

SilentNightDancer · 02/02/2023 11:33

'People with wombs', Mumsnet, really?

You saw nothing wrong with this language? Even though you moderate the Feminism boards constantly and are well aware of the arguments on this topic?

And no, I don't want to see these sorts of ads on a site that I look at around my young daughter, actually.

Cailin66 · 02/02/2023 11:34

I am not a person with a womb. I am a woman. I am on Mumsnet because I am a mother and because here is a safe space that I can discuss things that pertain to being a woman and a mother.

GoodChat · 02/02/2023 11:34

Misses the point entirely.

Noone wants to buy the product now we know it’s marketed by trans apologists.

I think you're missing the point as the main complaint that instigated the thread was OP didn't want to see vibrators.

OneEnchantedEvening · 02/02/2023 11:34

I bet a tenner to a pinch off shit that Mumsnet will do fuck all about it and, as we know that any criticism of trans women is immediately moved to the Feminist Board, where it may or may not last-it's clear that they support transwomen in every way and punish those who don't by removing threads.

So, they won't be apologising for 'Vulva Owners'either, as they fully support this madness

If you have the time, write to the advertiser and tell them that because of inappropriate advertising, you won't be buying their vibrator.

If this post is deleted, well you all know what it said and it will have been deleted because it's true.

itwasntmetho · 02/02/2023 11:34

I didn't know sex in Motherhood was taboo.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 02/02/2023 11:35

The advertisers' grasp on basic biology is as poor as their taste. I've definitely seen the body-part owners bit. And how do they imagine families happen in our taboo-ridden society? Must be the stork.

I generally just assume that adverts will go away after a while so not worth complaining. This one certainly wasn't tempting. Bleah.

ImprobablePuffin · 02/02/2023 11:35

Lucylock · 02/02/2023 10:37

I agree. The ad is not what I want to see here. Especially given the nonsense about vulva owners and taboos about sex. The ad comes across as condescending with all the 'made for mums' crap.

Which begs the question are mothers' clits different to childless women's clits? Am I being very stupid not knowing this?

Honestly hadn't planned on thinking about clits for so long this morning but hey ho.

We choose what threads we open. I do not go on those threads. We do not choose the adverts we see.

MuckyPlucky · 02/02/2023 11:35

I’m so utterly, revoltingly disappointed in MNHQ for their weak as piss comment above. They really don’t get it, they just want to appear to appease everyone, in order to keep their business going. We’re just cattle to them (who own vulvas).

TrashyPanda · 02/02/2023 11:35

BigSighsAllRound · 02/02/2023 10:15

As a person without a womb, but in possession of a vulva, I am offended.

Snap

and, for the avoidance of doubt (because of that stupid line about having a womb)

you can use a vibrator after a hysterectomy

having a hysterectomy does not alter the fact that I am a woman

MN - that crap about having a womb is deeply insulting and totally ignorant. Why are you spreading misinformation?

Sex toys is not the same as sex. People have had sex for thousands of years who have never even heard about sex toys.
