Totally inappropriate enormous vibrator adverts now ALL over Mumnset.

What on earth are you thinking of? Is Mumsnet really that short of cash that they have to stoop this low?

Not to mention the ridiculous woke language ie "people with wombs".

Totally inappropriate on ALL levels.

@SausageInCider thanks for digging that out. It makes me 😡😡😡- the 'and people with wombs' nonsense. What does it even mean?? Just - no. As many pps have pointed out, it excludes more people than it includes.

but to think the best way to remove an 'important' taboo (that barely exists AFAIK, but assuming it did..) is by selling people something. All the grrrs.

Chimna · 02/02/2023 15:47

Is anyone else finding active full of 'promoted by mumsnet' now with very little actual content? It's like they don't actually give a shit about women's voices anymore.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 02/02/2023 15:48

RightWIthR · 02/02/2023 15:40

These vibrators have been around for some time, no? Boots sell them and Planet organic and Urban outfitters.

Does anyone have information about the business, where is it based, who are the owners and any other business data? Do we know why MN have a 3rd party deal with them?

Course it is! Two blokes who think feathery strokes and gentle exploration is What Vulva Owners Want

only mum vulva owners. Because we’ve got kids yeah, so we’re all chaste now. Don’t shout about sex, whisper it

They have a bit of an obsession with the word 'vulvas.' A bit like a three year old shouting 'poo!' and finding it funny; except these are grownups.

Notice on their condom page whenever they refer to woman alone we are 'people with vaginas' but any mention of men are 'men'.

I love how all of the threads about this topic from every board are now all missing from active, but the thread about rimming is on page 1.

EVERYTHING IS FINE. GO ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS.

It's funny as fuck.

I'm not seeing "people with wombs" or "vulva owners" on this, did they change it?

@discobrain yeah generally I'd be a bit more robust about that, but sex was added to active yesterday without any announcement, whereas it's been hidden by default for a very long time because people who have been sexually assaulted or have anxiety around sex have been considered alongside those who might want to access those boards. Even people who use them are complaining on site stuff because they don't want it appearing in their active topics.

Right up until the day before the Shrek ear launch on...the sex boards. So it just smacks of "fuck you people we were protective of for years, you can be suddenly exposed to this with no warning because we've got a plastic willy to flog". But sod all those people eh? It's funny!

PlusLaMeme · 02/02/2023 16:08

Surely there are ways to be inclusive other than reduce all adult human females into body parts? It is icky as hell.

discobrain · 02/02/2023 16:09

@IAmWomanHearMeRoar1 I'm in my OWN basement thank you very much.

I've also had far too much sex, and positive relationships with people to be an incel, do try harder.

Yeah they’ve done a dirty delete on the people with wombs thing. The vulva owners thing is all over the product description

Mary Palmer and her 5 daughters don't count as 'sex' or positive 'relationships', sir, do try harder.

CoffeeRightNow · 02/02/2023 16:13

Frothers? You’ll be saying we are all suffering from hysteria next! @discobrain

An inclusive sex toy could easily be marketed as ‘unisex’ ‘for everyone’ ‘for use anywhere’. I have no issue with that.

But when you are specifically marketing a product at MOTHERS who are WOMEN and advertising it on a site called MUMSNET, but you can’t even bring yourself to use the word ‘woman’….it’s extremely fucking problematic for a lot of women. It’s not on any way inclusive. And giving us a lecture on gender woo to boot? No. Women don’t want to be patronised and educated in the course of buying something to aid wanking.

And language IS important. It’s precisely because of the ridiculous ‘inclusion’ of people with penises in the definition of ‘woman’, pushed by TRAs, that people like Isla Bryson gain access to female single sex spaces. Wake the fuck up and put your ‘be kind’ banner down (maybe next to the ‘decapitate TERFs’ banners some of these charmers have been waving about recently).

BiggerBoyMadeMeDoit · 02/02/2023 16:20

I agree with all of the previous comments. What were you thinking mumsnet?

anyolddinosaur · 02/02/2023 16:37

Is this device actually on sale anywhere or is this just a marketing department exercise to find out how many people they can offend all at once? Or are the people who commissioned the add campaign looking to get their money back?

If it helps- I am offended by ads that avoid using the word woman and by the mangled language. The colour would have made me think of vomit but now I can only think of Shrek's ears. I feel patronised as well as insulted by the add and I dont buy from companies who think they can patronise me.

You could use this as an example of how not to advertise a product. Sadly it doesnt reach the so bad it's funny level, it's just too bad to talk about except here..

IAmWomanHearMeRoar1 · 02/02/2023 16:39

It's interesting the 'he's not a real TW' argument. They shoot themselves in the foot here. First, denying a person's identity is 'transphobic', so disco is being transphobic here. With self-ID, a person is as they say they are. So if a person says they are a TW, then, they ARE! It's not up to you to say who they are, while at the same time talking out the other side of your mother and saying be inclusive and validate them. Either self-ID is self-ID, or it's not. Make up your mind. You can't have it both ways, and it's not up to you to say who is or isn't a 'real' TW.

bordhoose · 02/02/2023 16:40

"The wording is perfectly fine, it's inclusive and those offended really do need to get a grip.

-non binary person with a womb"

Use your damn brain. The wording is not totally fine and it is definitely not inclusive.

-woman without a womb

Hi everyone. We've edited the page now and have passed on your comments to Smile Makers. We're really sorry for the upset caused today.

Thatshipsailed · 02/02/2023 16:44

Their website says that green is their most requested vibrator colour. I’m trying to fathom where this comes from! Do people (with wombs) message them ad-hoc asking for Shrek’s ear vibrators or have they asked 10 people in a focus group what colour they like?

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 02/02/2023 16:45

FYI this thread isn't excluded from Active.
