@MNHQ please could you move these into the Royal Family board? They're all over AIBU.

I'm also sick of the proliferation of them. They were 3/5 of the trending topics as well. FGS just keep them to the one board please.

Hi everyone. We'll move any threads we think are better suited to the RF topic but please also remember you can hide individual threads.

We do expect, as with any big news story, that there will be lots of threads about H&M across the boards. In our experience this usually dies down alongside media coverage. Though to be honest we are bracing ourselves for the book release in January!

There are more at the moment, but there are pretty much always threads about H&M everywhere MN and a lot of us are sick of seeing the topics not being used while Chat and AIBU get spammed by the nutters who think Harry should have married them.

GeneratedRandomly · 17/12/2022 17:14

Thank you for moving them, it is much easier to find interesting threads without all the dross cluttering up the place.

Please keep it this way so we don't have to go through it all again with the damn book. Maybe shift them to the Books board as well as the RF one?

Is there a limit to how many threads I can hide?

AuntieEntity · 17/12/2022 17:56

@Pieministers Exactly this. Some of the vitriol directed at Meghan is transparently racist, sexist, and plain jealous.

Exactly what I said on page one, it will die down, until the book....then it'll die down until the Coronation.. we can cope with that I'm sure

OtterInABox · 17/12/2022 18:06

It puts me in mind a bit about the One Direction threads. My memory is hazy but maybe Harry Styles in the main? Some absolute weirdos who thought they were actually married to him in a parallel life and something about a pregnancy

Anyway, they were so bad and so stalkerish that MN banned them. Also the same for threads about Benedict Cumberbatch - total looks obsessing in minute detail about his private life too

The H & M threads remind me of them. Weirdos heavily invested in two strangers lives whilst the rest of us just don't care that she calls him H or that he maybe once fell out with his brother and so on and so forth until we all scream into the void

OtterInABox · 17/12/2022 18:06

Oh I know, never fear! It was an excellent sentence. Grin

Rinatinabina · 17/12/2022 18:26

I don’t care whether the threads support harry or william. Theres too many of the bastard things clogging up the place.

Spudlet · 17/12/2022 18:37

It is WEIRD. There’s no middle ground ever -Meghan is either the devil incarnate, or a wronged angel who never did a thing wrong in her life. Kate is either the perfect future Queen, or a cold hearted harpy - not much middle ground there either at the moment. There’s never any nuance or acknowledgment that everyone involved is human and thus flawed. It’s not a discussion, it’s just two diametrically opposed camps shrieking at each other. Over and over again. And it’s so fucking BORING.

Spudlet · 17/12/2022 18:40

Also, afaik you can’t easily hide topics on mobile. 😑

ohioriver · 17/12/2022 18:47

Please can you move them it's relentless

You can't, it's annoying. I'm hiding a million single threads, it feels like!

WrongTopic · 17/12/2022 19:47

There is currently another bloody thread in AIBU, PLEASE get rid of these bastards.

Newwardrobe · 17/12/2022 19:50

I despair, my FB feed is now full of positive stories about H&M (not despairing because they are positive stories but because I cant escape them )

Just scroll past for goodness sake if you're not interested. How difficult is it to do that?? Shedloads of threads that I scroll by because they are of zero interest to me. It's weird and childish to insist that threads are moved to one topic just to stop you from having to see the thread title.

The sheer number of H&M threads on MN is relentless and constant. Even before the Netflix documentary, there was numerous threads about them. It’s tedious and the threads are rarely started in good faith.

There is a topic for Royal Family threads. What is the point of having topics if MNHQ refuse to use them?

Out of interest, why was it so difficult for you to not scroll past this thread and post on it telling us all we should scroll past threads we don’t want to read?

RoseslnTheHospital · 17/12/2022 20:11

I have no problem with this thread, I wanted to read it and am happy to comment on it. You won't see me posting on threads that don't interest me, nor do I read them.

There are a handful of threads in active. There are lots about Christmas, about Relationships, and so on and so on. It's unsurprising that there are more threads than usual about the royal family because of the attention the Netflix documentary is getting.

The topics are there to help people find posts that interest them. AIBU and Chat are free for all, any topic that you like.

It's not just having to see the title, though. For one thing, people often post threads with unhelpful titles such as "is this weird?" or "AIBU to think this?" There have been several such H&M threads recently.

Secondly, the topics should act as a filtration system. If I looked on BBC News for the news in my area and it constantly showed me what was going on in Devon, I would find another news site.

Yes please. Also, how do you hide threads?

SaltyCrisp · 18/12/2022 00:26

OP - maybe take a break from Mumsnet if it's getting to you so much.

If I inadvertently open a thread that's not of interest to me, I just move on. It's not that big a deal.

I didn't say it was getting to me. I just made a site related request to MNHQ, like every other OP on this board.
