OH and to be clear I do mean the middle east region. It was Algerian immigrants in France who I had the delight of being objectified by and harassed by when I was a teenager. It is hard to explain but the nature of the harassment was different from that of men of a culture that doesn't treat women as lesser humans. But I can't talk about that. Because racism.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 28/11/2022 22:52

ah the tone

something inexplicable that only you can hear and you can't explain

but if I run all my wording past you and make sure I'm using precisely the right tone then I can ask questions without you randomly accusing me of being racist but being completely unable to back it up?

I think the fact that you refuse to acknowledge the problematic tone of your original question is because deep down you know it was inflammatory and intended it to be. You're clearly not stupid – you know there were so many other ways you could've asked that question.

My teenage son is autistic. This is really really offensive. Autistic children are not brought up to treat women as lesser humans.

Thank you for proving my point.

Talking about someone’s race or culture is fair game on here and it’s only when you bring something else into, do people realise how offensive they’re being.

I’m autistic, my child is autistic and I work with autistic children.

I also work with victims of DV and sexual abuse, including those associated with Asian grooming gangs.

For a long time those with special needs were seen as sexual predators (and still are in some cases).
Many of which were wrongly imprisoned because they were tarred with the same brush as other autistic people who had committed crimes (sounding familiar?).

lifeturnsonadime · 28/11/2022 22:47

You can't ascribe certain behaviours to people just because of where they come from.

Actually I'll retract my previous statement. I have said that.

The Middle East is under fire about human rights violations in respect of the World Cup. A lot of it's criticism is about the way women are treated there. What makes you think that men who come to the Uk from the middle east suddenly lose those attitudes toward women when that is the way they have been brought up? Why is it racist to ask this question?

Because the Middle East is a huge area made up of men and women from different societal groups and have different attitudes.

All of the men I know who come from the Middle East treat women with respect.

I didn't say that women's rights was the only issue in the Middle East. I used Quatar and the world cup as an example.

In Quatar women can ONLY BE MARRIED WITH THE PERMISSION OF A MALE GUARDIAN who also get's to choose if she can study, drive and travel.

But nothing to see here.

But of course men from this region won't share those values because they are immigrants and we can't make assumptions. Even though I have first hand experience of the way men from the middle east treat women from my own lived experience.

This is NAMALT all over again.

It’s hardly NAMALT don’t be naive.

I’m aware of their backward and misogynistic laws. Really I am. But I’m not going to sit around and point the finger at every single non-white male who dares to approach UK shores of holding the same views. Some will. Some won’t.

You asked why is it racist to point out men from that region might share those attitudes towards women.

I explained why it is racist. Other posters have too.

It’s also Qatar, not Quatar. If you’re going to use examples of their laws at least spell it right and look as if you’re doing your research.

CarefreeMe · 28/11/2022 22:59

It would be if that was true and people had done that. But they haven't. Except for you.
It's just you that keeps doing that.

@BacklogBritain

The first thread was titled ‘foreign men’ and the OP said how foreign men were a danger etc.

This thread title is ‘large numbers of men from other cultures’

I’m not the one grouping an entire population of people into a specific category, which is offensive.

'problematic tone'

except you can't articulate what the problem is

and you can't give examples of where I've lumped together all men from certain cultures as you accused me of doing

in fact, you decided that I'm racist and you were going to take public umbrage so you could feel all warm inside didn't you?

Algeria is not part of the Middle East. Algeria is North African, which has a very different culture to other countries of the Middle East…

It's completely different to men who have been brought up to believe that they own and control women and that women don't have rights to marry, study or travel without male permission.

You are being offensive to even compare the two scenarios.

Do you believe that women who are brought up in Afghanistan experience the same sexism that we do?

Do you believe that men who were raised there migrate to Western countries and automatically unlearn the fact that they have been 'conditioned' to view women as lesser humans?

I think people decide that stuff is racist and then go back and adjust things to fit their decision

that certainly seems to have happened today

and excellently proves the point that women find themselves unable to discuss abuse they suffer if it doesn't suit others

And it was only 30 years ago that it was legal to rape your wife in the UK.

It takes time for countries to develop their human rights. The UK only got its act together over the past 50 years. Society is changing for the better but it takes time, and acting like the UK is superior when it was a recent thing here is a bit odd…

Can you not read? I have articulated it. You raised the question of how immigrant men from certain cultures are being integrated into the UK communities they now live in. Given the current rhetoric about immigrants and 'invasions' it was blindingly obvious to me and many other PPs that the thread was designed to be negative towards certain cultures and THAT is what makes the question racist, because you're lumping immigrants in together. I've never said you are racist, I responded that the question you posed, when you asked why the discussion kept being shut down, could be taken that way.

No but picking and choosing which countries you find to be the problem is a bit hypocritical…

Do you boycott all goods from China, India, Bangladesh, Russia, and every other country that either treats women like second class citizens or carries out human rights abuses?

CarefreeMe · 28/11/2022 23:12

Why would I offend myself mad my own child 🤔

If you have any experience with autism you will understand the very offensive claims that some people have.

Please do educate yourself as if you have a child, especially a son, this is a discrimination he will most likely face.

I believe the individual men have the same misogyny, regardless of what country they live in.

The difference being is that the individuals are supported by an entire network.
Whereas, in Western countries our system isn’t as misogynistic.

We have rapes, SA, murders, peados etc just like any other country because our men are just as sexist and predatory.

It would be ignorant to suggest that we don’t have an issue with male violence in this county.

But you are more likely to be prosecuted in this country than you are in Afganistan, although there have been men put in jail and to death for rape in Afganistan but it’s usually covered up before it gets to trial.

I would not like to be a British woman living in Afghanistan but I wouldn’t mind being in the UK with men from Afghanistan, as the individuals pose the same risks but the larger system is completely different.
