MNHQ, why was this thread deleted?

MonsteraDeliciosa · 23/10/2022 18:12

Why was the AIBU thread

'To think that this man should not be allowed to live in student halls'

deleted?

Deletion message states that personal information was divulged, but it wasn't: there was a link to legitimate news sites that reported the info. Public domain!

Why are you more interested in protecting a violent criminal than the youngsters he may gain access to? Why can't we discuss this?

I would also like to know why it was pulled. It’s ridiculous.

Clymene · 23/10/2022 18:25

Yes I would also like to know

Skinnermarink · 23/10/2022 18:26

Me too, care to explain MNHQ?

Sep200024 · 23/10/2022 18:28

I would also like to know why on earth this thread was pulled.

It did contain the name of the convicted criminal, but there is a reason why the names of convicted criminals are freely available in the public domain!

GinWithChocolate · 23/10/2022 18:33

This information is already in the public domain. It has been up for 14 hours and written by a senior reporter:
www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/man-who-strangled-woman-given-25319459

My concern is this deletion is likely to protect the university's reputation and the perpetrator. The priority should be the protection of vulnerable children and adults.

40andfit · 23/10/2022 18:38

I would like to know too.

Newshoesnewname · 23/10/2022 18:38

I would also like to know the reason please.

bare · 23/10/2022 18:43

I must admit, I wanted to show Cardiff Uni the thread so they could see the strength of opinion.

MonsteraDeliciosa · 23/10/2022 18:45

I get the feeling they've already seen it @bare, which is why it went pouf! in the first place.

Other thread has been deleted.

Stranglers rejoice. 😞

Another thread has now been deleted as a TAAT.

Ekátn · 23/10/2022 18:48

They have time to delete the other thread but not answer this.

Trying to be balanced, is this because it’s Sunday evening?

TimeForMeToF1y · 23/10/2022 18:52

I read the other thread and was glad I did as I wouldn't have known about this. I have several friends with children nearing going to uni and this needs to be widely known

Why did you delete it?

35965a · 23/10/2022 18:53

It’s bizarre. All the info is in the public domain so it shouldn’t have been deleted.

Newtt · 23/10/2022 18:55

And another one gone...

Seriously MN, mainstream media can report this but you choose to censor it?

Will this thread be deleted too as posters have the audacity to query your censorship?

If you could even make a statement to let posters know what your position is / why the need for this? Has there been contact from Cardiff Uni to MN for instance?

What is going on?

GinWithChocolate · 23/10/2022 18:55

'We have deleted this thread as it includes private information about another person.'
'Unfortunately as this is a thread about another thread we had to remove it. MNHQ'

BoneAppleTee · 23/10/2022 18:56

Thank you to all the posters bringing this to a wider audience.

Shame on MNHQ for deleting the threads and helping to protect a killer and a disgraceful public body, whilst leaving young women at risk.

IncompleteSenten · 23/10/2022 18:58

And now every thread asking them to explain what part of this publicly available information is private will be deleted as a TAAT.🤦

GinWithChocolate · 23/10/2022 18:58

Just to correct @BoneAppleTee - he did not kill but he did strangle, terrify and injure a woman.

BoneAppleTee · 23/10/2022 18:59

My aplogoes not a killer, he just stangled a women.

MonsteraDeliciosa · 23/10/2022 19:00

TimeForMeToF1y · 23/10/2022 18:52

I read the other thread and was glad I did as I wouldn't have known about this. I have several friends with children nearing going to uni and this needs to be widely known

Why did you delete it?

This is exactly my problem MNHQ.

I live in South Wales and have DDs aged 13 and 16; the 16YO will be applying for uni/further study next year. She is vulnerable, as you will know from my posting history. My older children have friends at Cardiff uni. I have friends whose children go to Cardiff.

I'm glad I saw the first thread because now there is no way my DD's, particularly the 16 YO, will go to Cardiff. What a shame you have denied other parents of vulnerable youngsters the chance to protect their children by pulling this information.

OP posts:
PAFMO · 23/10/2022 19:01

This should be the kind of "issue" that MN get behind.
Asking the university what the fuck went wrong with their recruiting- or, if they knowingly appointed a convicted (attempted) murderer who preys on young women, how they thought that would go.

Puyo · 23/10/2022 19:02

If it was a single post that contain personal information why couldn't it have been removed, the thread as a whole though didn't contain anything that's not already in the news. It should not be removed and or a new thread should be allowed

GinWithChocolate · 23/10/2022 19:03

And other universities need to get the message loud and clear that this sort of thing is not acceptable @MonsteraDeliciosa

Rainbowshit · 23/10/2022 19:04

This is info already in the public domain. Why are you deleting threads about it?
