I posted to see if anyone had the same religious beliefs as I did and within hours my post was deleted.
am I right in thinking now that mumsnet is happy for you to discuss your beliefs but only if they align with their own?
if you’re allowing discussions on religion then you should be open to discussions on all beliefs.
my religion is recognised as a belief system in the us and has all the same legal rights as any other.

these are the tenets I live by.
There are Seven
FUNDAMENTAL TENETS
I
One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.

II
The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.

III
One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.

IV
The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own.

V
Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs.

VI
People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.

VII
Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

does that sound offensive and scary to you to be deleted?

Hi there, MrsBun,

Thanks for getting in touch. We've had a hunt back for your thread and think we have located it. We're a site for all religions (and none, too), though we understand Satanism is a belief system rather than a religion. But it was being reported as trolling and we felt that the thread was probably designed to cause a bit of outrage so we took it down for that reason.

Hope that answers your question but if you'd like to discuss it further please do drop us a line at [email protected] or you can just hit report on your post above and send us a message that way.

ShirleyPhallus · 31/08/2022 10:46

Excellent 🤣🤣

MrsBunTheBakersMum · 31/08/2022 11:28

Honestly not trolling or trying to cause outrage literally just trying to find likeminded parents.

Have you tried Netmums @MrsBunTheBakersMum?

Apologies. Flowers In all seriousness, we're sorry if we read your thread the wrong way, but we aren't sure you will find an awful lot of likeminded satanists on a parenting website (though we never cease to be surprised at some of the niche interests here!)

We're pleased to hear you weren't trolling anyway, but we're afraid threads like that are going to be read by many users that way, we think, so aren't likely to go well or always be taken seriously, even if we leave them up. So we did feel that one was best taken down, to be honest.

We hope you continue to enjoy the other areas of Mumsnet though.

NewDiary · 31/08/2022 12:59

This is really poor. Somebody had posted a very useful summary of what satanism is (and isn't) on the thread so people could actually have learned something.

MrsBunTheBakersMum · 31/08/2022 13:41

But if I’m reading right we’re being told we’re unwelcome so we obviously won’t find likeminded people here because posts speaking about our beliefs will be deleted without offering space for open minded debate. Maybe if the people who are offended and ignorant can read about satanism and learn what we’re actually about they won’t be upset.

its still a case of mumsnet is showing they’re open to some beliefs but not others and it’s not ok.

Meh, I can’t imagine MN deleting a thread for simply discussing Satanism. People discuss all sorts on here. It’ll have been more to do with your tone and overall approach setting off alarm bells about trolling.

MNHQ inevitably does have to make subjective judgement calls about trolls and they’ve already said above that they’re sorry if they got it wrong.

Tbh your op here is another example of how not to come across as reasonable or straightforward — listing all your tenets without actually saying you’re a Satanist (when that is obviously unusual/“controversial”) is basically game-playing in an annoying way. Doesn’t make you seem like you want a proper discussion.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 31/08/2022 14:06

I'm really surprised by that justification for a thread deletion.
Op, maybe you could post in the feminism section about excellent things satanists have been getting up to in the US, or similar? Get a bit of chat going that way.

But it doesn't sound like a very fair deletion tbh.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 31/08/2022 14:09

Doesn’t sound much like Satanism as usually practiced, though.

’going up and down in the world seeking what I may devour’.

This is a bit judgy hq? You aren't likely to meet satanists here? Where do you think you'd meet parents who are also satanists? Or do you think parents couldn't/shouldn't be satanists?

Satanism is not some weird cult that spills bunny blood, it's actually an extremely caring and well thought out approach to life, yourself and those around you. I don't subscribe because I don't attach myself to any religion/belief system but I do give it the courtesy of a basic understanding.

Admittedly I didn't see the thread which may have been goady but your response here certainly makes it sound like you've reacted without any attempt at understanding of the subject matter.

This. You aren’t trying to find like minded people, you are trying to trick people into saying that they are Satanists because they agree with the ethos you’ve posted.

MrsBunTheBakersMum · 31/08/2022 14:35

My point at not mentioning satanism in my first post here was to show that without the name people are more open to hearing about it and to avoid the knee jerk reaction of “omg animal sacrifice eating babies!”
my post wasn’t at all goady, there are thousands of active satanists and a lot have children I was hoping there might be conversations about how to manage schools and things.

It IS ok, it's THEIR site. If you want to be able to post whatever you want & make the rules, you're free to set up your own site.

you're not unwelcome, Hebe said to enjoy the rest of the site, they didn't ban you, they've just told you nicely that satanism isn't welcome on the site. Their call.

It’s like MLMs, never mention the product until they are hooked
I have no issue with Satanism or any religion really but be up front about what you are

If there are thousands of Satanist's & msny are parents then go the other way about this, go onto a satanist web site & gather the parents together talk about how to deal with school etc.

RiftGibbon · 31/08/2022 14:50

Maybe the issue is that people see the word "Satsnism" and jump to conclusions. What you say you believe in aligns with having a moral code. Humanism may be packaged differently but again, a reasonable crossover.

DramaAlpaca · 31/08/2022 14:54

I didn't see your earlier thread.

Did you post in Philosophy & Religion? If so, great, there's lots of interesting discussion on there.

If you posted in AIBU I'd be inclined to think you were being goady, tbh.

Why choose that name if you are really just trying to advance a kind of humanism? It has provocative connotations the site is uncomfortable with, and are very many users of the site.

That smacks very much of the underhand Scientology recruitment tactic of getting people to take a "personality test" in order to get them in the door.

Puddington · 31/08/2022 15:41

The Church of Satan is doing more for American women than any political party is. I think the response from HQ here was quite patronising.
