Can't see my private messages

CaptSkippy · 07/06/2022 07:50

Yesterday I received a notification that I have a private message, but when I go to my inbox there is nothing there. It's completely empty, as I deleted all my private messages a few days ago. This morning I now have a notification that I have two private messages. I can't see any of them. The annoying notification remains, but I can't do anything about it.

So what is it? Do I have private messages or not? I don't have any blocked users, so why do I get notifications if I have no messages. If I do have messages why don't they show up?

Please fix this, because it's starting to drive me nuts. I hate useless notifications I can't do anything with or about.

Hi OP

Completely understand wrt useless notifications.
We had an issue recently with PMs so it could well be related to that.
Can you let us know what device and browser you're using to access the site?

CaptSkippy · 07/06/2022 16:22

It's a PC with Windows 10 and the Firefox browser

I'm having the same issue on a Samsung phone.

Billybagpuss · 08/06/2022 05:00

Same issue apple iphone, safari browser

TottersBlankly · 08/06/2022 07:01

Same thing here!

I deleted lots of old messages around the re-platforming time, and hadn’t had any since then. Now there’s a little (1) at the top of the page, but when I click there is nothing but four old messages (that I deliberately kept) on what seems to be a frozen page. I cannot access the new message at all, or even see who it’s from. Also no email saying I have a PM.

Please help - someone must think I’m ignoring them!

Iphone 11. (V15.1.) Mobile site. Safari.

CaptSkippy · 08/06/2022 07:23

A user send me messages early as a test and these do work, but the rest still won't show up.

Just happened to me too. iPhone 11 safari, mobile site.

I was quite excited at the thought of actually having had a PM!

Maggiethecat · 08/06/2022 13:21

Noticed this a few days ago - have a little 1 at the top of messages but all my inbox messages are jumbled and I cannot see the 'new' message. In fact I cannot even see how to select inbox/sent messages separately.

Is this supposed to be a joke MN?

Maggiethecat · 08/06/2022 13:21

Safari on a Mac

LilyMumsnet · 08/06/2022 15:47

Hi all

We're investigating the broken notifications - I have one too!
We'll release a fix as soon as possible.

TottersBlankly · 09/06/2022 06:44

Still not working.

It’s quite frustrating!

TottersBlankly · 11/06/2022 09:48

That lonely PM has been sitting inaccessibly at the top of the page for days and days now … I don’t know if it’s:

a) Someone telling me they recognise me irl.

b) Someone wanting urgent advice that I alone in the entire world can offer.

c) Someone asking “Did you mean to be so rude?” about something I wrote in a thread.

So by now they might have:

d) Shared my posts all over the Internet.

e) Chosen entirely the wrong school or shoe colour.

f) Put me on their MN spreadsheet under the ‘Irredeemably Nasty’ column.

Please MNHQ - the suspense is unbearable!

PurpleDaisies · 11/06/2022 09:59

I’m assuming I don’t actually have a pm.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 13/06/2022 15:55

I've still got this issue, and have posted about it on another thread in Site Stuff with more info. I had it before, and it got fixed. SueMumsnet was on it, so I don't know if it's worth speaking to see what fixed it last time? Anyhoo, it's annoying, still being ahaunted by ghostly notifications.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 13/06/2022 15:57

@CaptSkippy weirdly, I too have had other messages I have received, working fine, but this one message remains there! So not completely broken, just not fixed.

TottersBlankly · 13/06/2022 16:16

SpongeBobJudgeyPants was a solution posted on the other thread? Could you link? I still cannot access my solitary new PM.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 13/06/2022 16:58

No solution posted as far as I am aware, though there has been a solution, which appears not to be working now. Not aware of what it was, but @SueMumsnet was the liason.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 13/06/2022 17:01

It was this one, but it's dead on there now. here

LilyMumsnet · 13/06/2022 20:17

Hi all

We're still looking into fixing the PM notification but just to assure you, it's not related to a PM you haven't seen. It's just... broken! If you have a PM you will see it.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 13/06/2022 20:35

So, 'ghost pm message' then @LilyMumsnet ? Other messages can be read and, but not the ghost one?

Maggiethecat · 13/06/2022 21:22

Sorry, but I’m struggling to work out what is what - some PMs I can see, others I can’t (because they’re merging/overlapping with others) so I’m not presuming that I can see my most recent PM.

Billybagpuss · 05/07/2022 11:07

Are we still waiting on a fix for this I still have a rogue message showing

JoMumsnet · 05/07/2022 11:46

Hi @Billybagpuss - yes, we're still working on a few issues with our PM system - we really appreciate everyone's patience while we sort this.

In the meantime, you've said you have a rogue message showing. Do you mean you have a notification that you have a message but you can't see any new PMs in your inbox? If so, it could be that it's a very old message that's showing as unread, so could you please scroll down through your inbox just to see if there are any red dots (possibly from years ago).

Thanks in advance.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 06/07/2022 10:45

@JoMumsnet I know you weren't tagging me Grin but I've looked, and for the life of me can't find an old message. This issue was reported before, and sorted, but a ghostly message has come back. Have supplied all details of who sorted it on another thread about this quite annoying but admittedly first world haunting problem.

Billybagpuss · 06/07/2022 11:29

I found one but it was originally read years ago
