Consent/legitimate interest Reject All button?

BloodyFeetByMoonlight · 07/12/2021 18:03

I usually stay logged in on my phone but randomly had to sign in again just now & had to do the pita cookie consent business again.

All the Consents come up as opt in but can we get a ‘reject all’ button for the ‘legitimate interest’ stuff? (Or have I missed seeing it in the huff of having to rechoose?)

Many won’t care I know and happily have all the cookies etc but a reject all would be handy for those that don’t because it’s annoying to have to scroll through (esp on my teeny old phone Blush)

Obvs don’t expect companies to want to prob why the legitimate interest buttons exist alongside the consent buttons in the first place Hmm but I’ve noticed more sites have ‘reject all’ alongside ‘accept all’ for both consent & legitimate interest so sticking an ask in Grin

What do they do with all this data and legitimate interest

I don't know about Mumsnet, but I think this is where they get you with any mere view of a website generates a bombardment of marketing emails unless you bother to check and change all the cookies settings. You look at a website, that's legitimate interest and a green light for them to bombard you with crap forevermore.

Whatever happened to all those GDPR emails that told us that if we ignored them and didn't resign up to everything, they could never email us again? I get about ten times more than I ever did now and I never sign up to marketing emails. Angry

Rummikub · 05/01/2022 13:44

I never sign up to marketing emails so if this is a stealth way to do it then that’s annoying.

reshetima · 05/01/2022 19:16

When can we have an update on this?

Memyselfandfood · 05/01/2022 19:51

This is a piss take. This is now every week. Ive had to do this AGAIN today, i only did this the 29th!
What is going on???
Do i just keep getting fed up and finally accept them?Hmm

Ascii · 06/01/2022 07:14

I have also had to spent about 10 mins doing this yet again!! I have to reject cookies every few days - surely that’s dodgy legally as it’s almost coercing me out of frustration to accept?! This is the only site that requires this ridiculous amount of effort to reject cookies.

It's a pity MNHQ have not commented on this thread, and the enduring repeat issue that some posters have

I’d like the option of a ‘reject all’ button for here too.
If you don’t ‘accept all’ the site doesn’t load properly at the moment. These things really should be optional. There’s another thread about the lack of genuine choice going in Site Stuff.

chestnutSquash · 06/01/2022 22:09

I have just gone through this process of rejecting cookies and now I can't load MN on my usual browsers. I have moved to Firefox, but I suppose it is only a matter of time... I suppose eventually won't be able to use MN at all, which will be a shame after 15 years.

Yes, i keep asking yet no reply. If it asks me again im giving up. I don’t use this site as much as i use to now .
Halsall · 09/01/2022 14:00

I’ve just had this again.

@Bagadverts you were wondering what it is that comes up on screen - these are the shots I just took. You’re asked to Confirm Choices or Accept All - but if you don’t want to proceed, before doing that you need to untoggle the ‘legitimate interest’ buttons which are automatically set to ‘on’.

Then you also need to click on ‘Vendor preferences’, which opens up a new, huge list of ‘legitimate interests’ which need to be untoggled too. These seem, to me anyway, to be to be unacceptably intrusive - I don’t want my device being tracked for a year by many of these companies (almost 3 years in at least one case!).

It will take a long time to do all this, and many people will just click on ‘Accept All’ without checking further. But I’m not happy about this at all, nor about the continued silence from @MNHQ - any comment to the many people raising concerns, please?

I've just alerted MNHQ via the report button, stating:

"Can we have an update on this matter please, MNHQ? Yours is the only website I use that has such an unwieldy setup to reject tracking. Especially galling given the issues with privacy users have had in the past."

FionaMacCool · 10/01/2022 19:55

Checking back in to add my voice to the concerns raised by you @reshetima @MNHQ

AuntieStella · 11/01/2022 07:49

I think they're hoping all thus will all go away if they ignore it.

Changes to systems planned for thus month anyhow.

But we've still had to endure months and months of this. And they just don't care enough even to respond now

Katy75 · 11/01/2022 09:27

I have noticed that on most other sites, if you do not ‘accept all’ the default on all options is that you do NOT accept. It is only on MN and the Daily Mail that I see the default is that all vendor boxes are checked….

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 11/01/2022 16:24

Hello all - thanks for bearing with us. We're in the process of implementing a new cookie consent platform that will have a "reject all" button. Our new Talk platform (due for launch in Feb - we'll have more info soon) will not ask everyone to re-consent twice and so we think it makes sense to release the new cookie consent platform at the same time.

Wrt the here and now - cookie consent should only appear once on your first visit, but it will trigger every time you use an incognito browser or if your cookies are cleared. Some browsers do this automatically after a couple of days so it's probably worth checking settings. We've also passed all this info on to our tech team who are also looking into whether there's a technical issue here.

We hope this offers some clarity but please do let us know if you've got any further questions.

Chemenger · 12/01/2022 11:13

I have been asked to complete the cookie consent twice this week. I haven’t cleared my cookies or used an incognito browser.

Halsall · 12/01/2022 16:04

It hasn't been twice in a week but, looking back on this thread, I had the consent request on 23rd December, 9th Jan, and once more early in the new year, which I didn't report on here.

It also happened several times around mid-December.

On none of those occasions had I cleared cookies, and I wasn't using an incognito browser. It's been on my iPhone every time - the one I use to access MN regularly, running Safari. I keep myself signed in and a tab open.

FluffytheGoldfish · 12/01/2022 22:15

Also have not used incognito, or cleared my cookies and have been asked at least twice in the last month on my iPad, and at least twice on my phone and again on my laptop! It is extremely frustrating.

Rummikub · 12/01/2022 22:54

Asked today.
Wonder if it’s cos I was using work wifi today

Katy75 · 13/01/2022 06:47

I was asked again yesterday (so after 7 days). I have not cleared cookies, am not using an incognito browser and do not have any settings set to automatically refresh cookies.

My guess is that those of us who are repeatedly asked are asked as we reject?

I would also like MNHQ to explain what these ~150 ‘vendors’ do for/with MN and why they want to place cookies on our devices. Vendors would usually mean that they provide services to MN but I wonder if they are advertisers or other firms that want to collect MN users’ data.

I would also like MN’s privacy team to confirm whether they are comfortable that users are giving informed consent for such extensive cookie placement if they can apparently have rejected all non-essential cookies on the first page of the consent message but have not clicked into the separate vendor area, which is not clear at all. @mnhq please can you respond on these points?

Memyselfandfood · 13/01/2022 07:31

@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet
Yet again being asked for it! No none of those things mentioned me or my phone are doing and it’s just your website that repeatedly keeps asking me for this.
As someone with physical problems doing having to keep doing this is not making me happy!
It’s getting ridiculous now the amount of times im
Being asked.
If i end up giving in will it stop?

Ascii · 13/01/2022 07:50

Had to do it all again this morning! That’s 3 times since the beginning of Jan. Nothing to do with incognito/different browsers/cookies clearing etc - I’ve checked all of that. And it only ever happens on Mumsnet - every other website accepts my choice and doesn’t continue to try to force me to accept invasive cookies. I’m looking into who to report this to as I’m sure it’s against guidelines. No means no, Mumsnet!!

AuntieStella · 13/01/2022 07:58

We don't have any choice but 'bear with' you, and this has been subject of complaint from users ever since it rolled out (with about 40 clicks required, now over 160)

With no real result from out POV - still having to do it, and on a promise of 'jam tomorrow'. This could and should have been changed months ago.

KrakowDawn · 13/01/2022 09:13

It's not the cookies so much (as they are set to off automatically), it's the 'legitimate interests'.
There are no legitimate interests as far as I am concerned, for any of these companies. They have no right to this information about us.
