Consent/legitimate interest Reject All button?

BloodyFeetByMoonlight · 07/12/2021 18:03

I usually stay logged in on my phone but randomly had to sign in again just now & had to do the pita cookie consent business again.

All the Consents come up as opt in but can we get a ‘reject all’ button for the ‘legitimate interest’ stuff? (Or have I missed seeing it in the huff of having to rechoose?)

Many won’t care I know and happily have all the cookies etc but a reject all would be handy for those that don’t because it’s annoying to have to scroll through (esp on my teeny old phone Blush)

Obvs don’t expect companies to want to prob why the legitimate interest buttons exist alongside the consent buttons in the first place Hmm but I’ve noticed more sites have ‘reject all’ alongside ‘accept all’ for both consent & legitimate interest so sticking an ask in Grin

hello, I fully agree. I have just had to manually toggle 151 buttons to reject legitimate interest. And I have not changed anything on my phone so I’m not sure why I was asked. ‘reject all’ is very common now and 151 manual actions is excessive. If I remember correctly from when this has been raised before, MN say it is a standard external product. But on a site where the host uses over 100 vendors it is really user unfriendly.

Rummikub · 07/12/2021 21:07

Oh damn I didn’t do the separate vendor buttons 😡

Reject all would be handy

Rummikub · 08/12/2021 13:54

I’ve just gone through these on another browser. There’s so many.
Could there be a reject all?

FlibbertyGiblets · 08/12/2021 13:57

Ah now iirc this is a New year task, let me find the thread that this was on. BBL.

might get another handbagging for jumping in like a pretentious judgemental head girl

The link is taking me to Site Stuff list rather than a specific post or thread Flipperty so I’m guessing from your post here that its already been raised? And possibly planned to be done this Jan?

Oh gawd! Sorry! The gist is, this has been raised before, and Justine indicated Jan 2022 for a fix.

BloodyFeetByMoonlight · 08/12/2021 22:01

Whoop! Thank you that’s great to hear, I appreciate you checking back through and posting Flowers

I've had this pop up again a few times in recent days too, and spent an age deselecting for legitimate consent. I really, really hope a 'reject all' solution can be put in place ASAP.

reshetima · 13/12/2021 20:14

It's something I've been complaining about for months. It's apparently going to be fixed in the new year. In the meantime, I'm going to clear cookies religiously.

Katy75 · 22/12/2021 02:01

I’ve just had to make the selections again, although I can see from my post about that I was last asked to do it only on 7th Dec…. Please can mumsnet explain why this is? I have not adjusted any settings on my phone.

Rummikub · 22/12/2021 04:10

Same here

I guess this might hopefully be the last time if the fix is January

Halsall · 23/12/2021 17:40

Just posted on the other thread as I’ve had yet another request to do this, too. It’s getting seriously annoying now. Again.

Katy75 · 29/12/2021 04:06

i’ve just been asked again, after only a week… please can mumsnet explain why I am asked so often? is it because I reject cookies? I don’t think this can be happening to all users or I am sure there would be more comment. I have not adjusted anything on my phone.

FionaMacCool · 29/12/2021 08:00

@Katy75 I'm another who rejects cookies; and had to press over 140 buttons this morning.
Where is the "reject all" button that was promised on Justine's thread on 02 November?

Currently, I have to wade through all the reject cookies buttons, weekly.
It's not on MN, and it's not a feature on any other site that I use.

So, now I refuse to use MN on my phone or tablet which is just as well, as I am addicted enough.

Many of the cookies are quite intrusive, tracking across devices and seeking permission for up to 500weeks!
Bonkers.

@MNHQ can you advise please?

AuntieStella · 29/12/2021 08:05

It's been requested so many times - right from the beginning when it was only about 45 clicks, through to now when last time it took me about 162.

If you're going to reject any, you're going to reject all, so why not make it easy - and why not when your members start objecting, rather than months later?

It's not that big a deal to change, and there is no reason to wait for other changes. Other than from a disregard for members and a prioritisation of those who seek to use data. After all it's not exactly clear that you have to set 'vendor preferences' is it?

Bagadverts · 29/12/2021 08:22

Can someone tell me what to click to get to the right place to reject cookies. I click on the privacy link and get the main page, when I try to change it just scrolls back to the top of the page. Help!. Do I have to sign up for a Google account to change the preferences?

I can't remember unless I'm actually looking at the request, Bagadverts, but next time it happens I'll try to take screenshots to show you.

You don't need to have a Google account. I assume what people are experiencing is that they go to open a MN page as normal on their tablet or phone and the request for permissions suddenly flashes up, so they can't access the site until they've dealt with it. This is what happens with me. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why/when the request pops up.

Essentially there are a few clicks to opt out of some things but then if you want to deny permission for many dozens of partners, you need to go to another page and manually deselect them - as pps have said, this involves well over 100 clicks and is a process that feels onerous if you have to keep doing it regularly. A 'Reject All' button would be the obvious answer - or I've noticed many sites have a two-part option whereby you can reject all cookies and also 'Object All' to so-called 'legitimate interests'.

UselessASD · 29/12/2021 17:28

Thanks Halsal.
By chance the box popped up a couple of hours ago and I spent time clicking boxes. Hope they fix things soon.

Memyselfandfood · 29/12/2021 18:21

Why am i having to do this every other week?
Its getting to the stage where im not bothering to come on the site as im fed up of the hassle!

Katy75 · 05/01/2022 04:38

I have just been asked again, only 5 days since I last rejected all cookies. Again, no changes on my device. Please can @mnhq and @justinemumsnet explain why this is happening? It can’t be happening to all users or I am sure there would be more discussion.

Also, do you have a clearer ETA on when this will be resolved? Thanks

WoodenReindeer · 05/01/2022 04:43

I dont remember ever being asked this (maybe i accepted cookies originally). Mumsnet Id like to know how to manually go back and unaccept please.

I think in this day and age we should have control of our data and wasy opt outs even after the fact?

WoodenReindeer · 05/01/2022 04:44

Easy not wasy.

Rummikub · 05/01/2022 13:06

Yes again for me today.

What do they do with all this data and legitimate interest?
Betgenius was one of the companies. It’s all confusing
