'Promoted by Mumsnet' ads making site jumpy

I'm sick of these ads. I open a page, and just when it loads to the first unread message, it jumps around as the 'Promoted by Mumsnet' ad then decides it's going to bloody load. The number of times I've ended up clicking on the wrong thing while it's leaping around is ridiculous. Angry

They're ruining my enjoyment. Either get them to load at the same time as the page or get rid of them! (iPhone 7, iOS 13.7, mobile site on Safari, WiFi and data connections.)

Photo attached of the type of offending ad.

Argh this is driving me crazy today! I thought there might be a thread on it and I can't believe it's been an issue for more than a month! I've only just noticed it though.

I'm on the mobile site, using Safari on an iPhone XR.

NoWordForFluffy · 13/11/2020 21:38

It is really, really bad today. 😡😡

Worse than ever. Jumping all over the place. Began to wonder if it was approaching migraine epilepsy triggering for some - my whole phone screen jumping up and down and again and again before it settles.

NoWordForFluffy · 15/11/2020 18:17

It's jumping so much that it fails to take me to my bookmarked post. It's all over the place.

This is still so annoying.
Because of the page jumping as it loads I just accidentally hit "hide this thread" when I wanted to "watch this thread" now I can't find it!

HeronLanyon · 15/11/2020 20:07

Worse each day. Jumping four times by half a page up and down and then settles a message or two from where you opened it. I know have to kind of look away as it is doing it jumping. Any update mn??

LouMumsnet · 15/11/2020 21:33

So sorry that you're being plagued with this issue - we can totally understand your frustrations.

As @soniamumsnet mentioned in her previous post, we're hoping to have a fix for this in the next few days. Please do hang in there until then - your patience is much appreciated.

musicalfrog · 16/11/2020 06:06

Oh this is a problem for me too. Thought it was just me. Amazed how long it's been reported and still not resolved. Fingers crossed then, for the next few days.

NoWordForFluffy · 18/11/2020 08:54

It seemed better for a bit. But now it's jumping again. I think it's the attached type of video ad.

Not sure what it is but its already frozen on me this morning. When it eventually releases all the menu buttons on my Samsung s10 are outlined in black for a few seconds. Something on Mumsnet is seriously messing with my phone and also draining the battery really quickly 😑. I am worried it may actually be causing damage.

soniamumsnet · 18/11/2020 16:21

Hi @sluj @NoWordForFluffy just popping in to say that we now expect this to be fixed by tomorrow. Apologies for the delay and thanks for your patience. Flowers

NoWordForFluffy · 19/11/2020 07:38

It does seem better...I'm cautiously hopeful! Thank you.

Nope still an issue for me

GoldfishParade · 20/11/2020 07:47

Still an issue.

This is 100% about forcing you to click on ads thereby generating revenue

NoWordForFluffy · 20/11/2020 09:44

It's back again today for me too. 🙄

Hi @NoWordForFluffy thanks for flagging this again. We'll take another look and hopefully resolve this soon. Flowers

soniamumsnet · 20/11/2020 11:46

Hi - can we just check that the issue is still with ads promoted by Mumsnet? Are you able to send a screenshot please?

BunnyBoilerRhian · 20/11/2020 11:47

I have to say I've really cut down my time on mumsnet this year due to hiw glitchy and un-user fruendly the sitechas become this is despite having more time than ever to be online and on here.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/11/2020 12:53

I think it's the promoted by MN one still. But there are so many moving / video ads on one page, I can't tell, as I can't see my full screen to know which one it is.

There are about 4 more than those attached to this post.

Aside from the jumping my page freezes, locking up my browser (iPhone xr, iOS 14, Safari). All the navigation buttons go (new page, forward, back etc) so I have to close and reopen the browser. Not a great user experience.

fucknuckle · 24/11/2020 20:15

adblock plus is the solution to all of this nonsense. free to use, no ‘premium’ fee and no more pop ups.

Meme69 · 24/11/2020 23:17

Oh joy, now we have video adverts to contend with that pop up as you scroll. Desperate much?

NoWordForFluffy · 25/11/2020 10:59

I need to know how to turn the video ads off. They're killing my battery and I don't want autoplay on such shit.

Get an ad blocker. It's a joke.
NoWordForFluffy · 26/11/2020 06:40

I've succumbed to an ad blocker. The site has become almost unusable without one, to be honest. And I refuse to have my battery drained by autoplay adverts too. It's so intrusive.
