'Promoted by Mumsnet' ads making site jumpy

NoWordForFluffy · 03/10/2020 07:38

I'm sick of these ads. I open a page, and just when it loads to the first unread message, it jumps around as the 'Promoted by Mumsnet' ad then decides it's going to bloody load. The number of times I've ended up clicking on the wrong thing while it's leaping around is ridiculous. Angry

They're ruining my enjoyment. Either get them to load at the same time as the page or get rid of them! (iPhone 7, iOS 13.7, mobile site on Safari, WiFi and data connections.)

Photo attached of the type of offending ad.

I thought it was just a ploy to get us to sign up to Premium by irritating the shit out of us! The video ad of some young mum talking away that keeps playing and popping up and getting in the way of the content is annoying too. And it doesn’t work because I’ve no idea what she’s talking about or selling -I often leave the site when she appears. I would like to become a Premium member but I don’t have a spare penny to my name and am drowning in enough debt as it is!

NoWordForFluffy · 04/11/2020 11:46

You're probably right, @Misomisophonia. I'll leave MN before signing up to Premium!

Yes Misomisophonis that ad is bloody annoying.
Not too bad on the pc but when I'm on my mobile it pops up on every page in every thread I'm reading.
You click it off, go onto the next page and there it is again.
Plus it covers the screen in a little pop up box.
I try not to go on Mumsnet on my phone these days because of how annoying it is which is a shame as I Mumsnet on my phone probably 90% of the time.
Thenthere's the battery drain on my phone because of all the adverts on Mumsnet.
I don't have the same on any other website I go on.

Crappyfridays7 · 04/11/2020 12:01

It’s the ones at the top that flash or flicker/change i can’t concentrate on what I’m reading as it annoys my eyes 👀
Don’t care re ads but they should be background and in one place and load & same time as everything else

Nanny0gg · 05/11/2020 08:57

Something's obviously changed for this to happen, so change it back!
Virtually unusable on the phone!!

soniamumsnet · 05/11/2020 09:34

Hi @Nanny0gg sorry to hear you're having problems! Please can you let us have a screenshot if possible?

Hopefully we can sort this issue out quickly. Flowers

NoWordForFluffy · 08/11/2020 12:27

These ads are still doing it.

Could we have an update about what tech is doing about it please?

I thought it was my phone! I find that often when a thread loads I can't scroll up without it being jumpy and freezing all over the place as ads load. It's is seriously annoying and has been going on for weeks but getting worse. No others sites seem to have this issue.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/11/2020 14:46

@MNHQ, can we have an update please? It's still happening. Over a month since I raised it.

Hi @NoWordForFluffy sorry to hear you're still having problems with this. We'll take another look and let you know as soon as we have more information. Flowers

Meme69 · 10/11/2020 18:09

@soniamumsnet this is ridiculous. Its been going on ages and you know exactly what the problem is. If you don't, can I suggest that you try using mumsnet on your mobile and see for yourselves

CormoranStrikesANoteofDoom · 10/11/2020 21:48

@BillywilliamV

Meh, sign up for Premium! No ads.,
I’m a premium member blighted by ads tonight, they are everywhere
ThisMustBeMyDream · 10/11/2020 21:52

Happening here too. The site doesn't run properly. The pages won't even scroll down smoothly. I have to take my finger on and off to get them to scroll (mobile and tried on tablet also).

No other sites have this issue. Just mumsnet.

sluj · 10/11/2020 21:56

Is this why mumsnet has been freezing my phone? The whole thing seizes up and I have to turn the phone off to get control back. Only on mumsnet but for a few weeks now

This is happening to me too. Buggers the entire thing up.

I’ve had this two. Anytime I open anything at all I have a false start and it then reloads with all content in the slightly lower position. It’s definitely annoying. I too thought it was my phone. Please do sort it out if possible - and of course it must be??

They don't want to sort it out. They are gaining revenue from people keep clicking the ad by accident. It also means you are clicking the wrong thread and so visiting more pages, thereby falsely making the site look more successful than it actually is. If you look at their visitors rate over the past year it had dropped about 70%. Desperate times, illegal measures
HeronLanyon · 11/11/2020 08:27

It’s actually become worse just this morning. On my ‘I’m on’ there is now a much bigger ad which lags and loads and basically buggers up my screen for a few seconds every time. More obtrusive. On my ‘active’ there is no longer any problem at all. What a mess.

soniamumsnet · 11/11/2020 16:09

Hi - thanks for all the reports raising this. Just popping in to say this isn't how they should be working and we are working on a fix which we aim to have in place within a week. Flowers

Bangkokbaby · 11/11/2020 16:15

This is happening to me too. I'm a quick reader so tend to scroll quickly. The adds make the scrolling jumpy and often the page just freezes completely. It's really putting me off using the site.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 11/11/2020 17:13

Three times today I’ve accidentally clicked on flipping Banjo Robinson’s letters because the page is jumping all over the place - even after thinking I’d left enough time for it to load. Beyond annoying.

NoWordForFluffy · 11/11/2020 17:26

It jumps down about 3-4 times, a second or so apart. I'm being driven to distraction!

Seems like the revenue making ploy is working then!
JamieLeeCurtains · 11/11/2020 23:25

It's been 'freezing' all day and it's rubbish tbh.

I'm posting stuff to post - content - and losing it.

I'll give MN a donation, gladly, but not my bank details.
