Temporary bans for posters continually posting CV stuff on non CV boards

Is this a thing? Can it be?
(accepting your decision that some cv threads are relevant to different topics, but the vast majority aren't)

As I and several other MNers have said, the torrent of threads is affecting MH so we've hidden the CV board to hide the worst of it, but its like some people have a need to force their opinions on the world so are sneaking posts in left right and centre.

i agree. Or perhaps a sticky at the top of popular boards pointing people in the right direction.

I think the subject is so big at the moment that it would be difficult.
It would be like mumsnet during the war trying to force everything into one topic, so many things cross over now.

Are people starting multiple threads then?

ParisInTheSpringtime · 17/03/2020 09:36

Yes please! Mumsnet is becoming a hysterical mess.

graisse · 17/03/2020 09:36

Should this post not be moved to the coronvirus section, mumsnet?

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 17/03/2020 09:37

I suggested on another thread that cv threads that are reported but not moved, at least have the title edited with a "(CV)" at the start so we can at least move about unrelated topics with ease; and those specific people that it does affect in that sub-topic, can read it by choice.

MN said they were going to discuss that idea.

OP posts:
SapphireSalute · 17/03/2020 09:37

no. no bans

because if you do you will find it should be the same for everything

an aibu about barking dogs....should be in doghouse topic....a chat about pregnancy issues should be in pregnancy topic ...and so on

so no

SapphireSalute · 17/03/2020 09:39

yes @graisse

it needs moving....unless op would prefer a ban?

Toria70 · 17/03/2020 09:39

It's getting beyond ridiculous. It's hysteria pure and simple.

Not everyone is that invested.

And we should have the right to still use an online forum that is usually engaging and interesting. And diverse. Now every 4 out of 5 threads is about a virus. Seriously, it's too much.

MaggieFS · 17/03/2020 09:40

I don't think bans are necessary, but I do think duplicates should be removed. There are at least three going on nursery fees, for example.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 17/03/2020 09:41

Someone talking about barking dogs outside the dog topic is not multiple posts of uninformed hysteria and is also unlikely to cause mental health issues though.

I mean, maybe a 3 strike rule like we've had to tolerate on FWR, but something to stop people causing unnecessary distress every where you turn.

I have hidden the CV topic too. I have a DS who is very high risk when it comes to chest infections, flu, CV etc. So I'm trying to avoid the hysteria.

BertiesLanding · 17/03/2020 09:44

Surely this should go under the CV section too?

Runs away

PegasusReturns · 17/03/2020 09:44

No bans

I agree with the separate area but the reality is this is impacting people across all areas of their life, it’s not just “I have a cough should I self isolate?”

People have questions about pensions, redundancies, food, elderly parents, etc. It’s all valid and a little bit of consideration wouldn’t go amiss

ExServiceWoman · 17/03/2020 09:46

It's a fucking nightmare. I'm at high risk. I don't want to come on here and read the same old shit on every thread.

The mass hysteria on here is just out of control. I keep saying to myself don't log in .... but i do and regret it.

Any suggestions of any other forums. Maybe I should start a thread asking!

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 17/03/2020 09:47

Can we have a limit on how many treads a new poster can start in the coronavirus topic?

I have a funny feeling it might be similar to the Brexit/General Election situation.

Icare1234 · 17/03/2020 09:47

I posted in CV asking for a hug as I’m struggling badly with MH due to isolating. Nothing since 8.30. Normally I’d go to chat AIBU or MH but didn’t want to as I know others are triggered, but I’m still lonely. I’m going to AIBU if I have no response- I will preface so it’s moved/not opened.

LangSpartacusCleg · 17/03/2020 09:48

I’d support a ban! It has completely overtaken Mumsnet. People are scaremongering and it is spiraling. It is very irresponsible. I’m seriously considering a flounce until all of this is over.

LangSpartacusCleg · 17/03/2020 09:50

Yes! This!

I miss brexit Confused

Oakmaiden · 17/03/2020 09:51

It would be like mumsnet during the war trying to force everything into one topic, so many things cross over now.

Don't mention the war...

I mean, seriously? This is an enormous thing that is affecting people's lives enormously RIGHT NOW. But you want them all shut up in their own cupboard, and banned from the whole place if they dare to mention it in front of you?

Sure, prefacing the threads with CV isn't a bad idea for those who insist on living their lives with their fingers in their ears, but banning people?

JorisBonson · 17/03/2020 09:53

I think this is a great idea. I also didn't realise you could hide the CV forum, I'll do that now.

This place is fucking batshit and it's stressing me out.

SapphireSalute · 17/03/2020 09:58

its a new lifestyle

you cant stop the overlap....and what if mnhq are sick/isolating and theres not enough staff for you all to report to and then they need to email and do the bans and all the fuss and detail around that

mnhq are probably overstretched as it is

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 17/03/2020 10:01

Sure, prefacing the threads with CV isn't a bad idea for those who insist on living their lives with their fingers in their ears, but banning people?

Because everyone who isn't obsessed with devouring every single post on MN is "living their lives with their fingers in their ears"

You are aware there is a whole internet of news out there, where we can get calm, rational facts and information direct from the horse's mouth.

And yes, I think people who knowingly and deliberately set out to cause distress to other people should not be welcome on MN.
