Why can't we double click on a bookmark to turn it off? It's really annoying. I've accidentally pressed on a couple of marks.

Well I’m adding to the “will you answer everyone’s questions about why it’s such an issue to just carry on reading and re-bookmark when you finish”? brigade

You seem to be assuming that the accidentally bookmarked post is the latest one read. It's often one a lot further back in the thread. It's not solved by reading on but requires first scrolling on to find the real last post I read.

I have got round it temporarily by bookmarking later posts, but from then on I have to keep remembering to bookmark every time I reach the current end of a page, or I'll always be dumped back at the older post. I don't want to have to do that. I do use bookmarks sometimes but I want to be able to choose when I do, not be forced into it for a particular thread just because of an accidental tap.

TheresSummat has it.

This is not a hard concept to understand, those disagreeing don’t need to patronise.

PortiaCastis · 13/09/2019 13:13

I bookmarked a thread in error but I didn't know how to get it off very annoying!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 13/09/2019 17:50

To the 'why?' people, because then you have to constantly keep bookmarking everytime you read a bit more, to paraphrase a PP, that's a slightly irritating solution to a slightly irritating problem, I just want to be able to remove it when I've accidentally pressed it.

This. I don’t use bookmarks so having to remember to do it every time I read a long thread just because I accidentally clicked on it once is an irritation. It’s not the end of the world, but it is annoying.

I'm glad you raised this OP! I think the bookmark feature is useful but I'd like the option to remove them - sometimes I want to go back to the beginning of a thread. I don't see why people think that's unreasonable? If I'm reading a book I might flick back to a previous page to refresh my memory on something that happened earlier - why is reading a website any different? I'm really thinking about long running threads here with lots of useful advice (eg alcohol support, bereavement support, cancer support) that I might want to refer to again. I'm on the app so it gives me the option to 'load earlier posts' if I'm reading from a bookmarked place, but it can take a long time to get back to the beginning that way. I'm not sure if that option takes you back to your previous bookmark each time... and sometimes it just seems to give up and plonk me back at my last bookmark after I've jumped back through lots of intermediate posts. Would it be possible to set it up so we could click on a thread title and have the option 'remove all bookmarks' or something along those lines?

ALoadOfTwaddle · 13/09/2019 22:45

HTH do you remove the bloody things? I'm forever accidentally bookmarking and can't work out how to unbookmark them.

It's not too irritating, because I can't work out what bookmarking even does, so it's not like I'm wrecking a feature I actually use, but still...

justanothernomaj · 13/09/2019 22:50

Yes, this exactly. Please. Thanks.

Aaarrgghhh · 22/09/2019 19:20

Why is it annoying? How do you people function in every day life? Even if you never come back to the thread bookmarking does nothing other than bring you to where you left off if you re enter the thread. Why do you need to remove them? I get that you may not be a bookmark person, but ffs it takes the same effort to press bookmark for when you have caught up as it would to undo the mistakes you seem to be making often enough for it to be an issue.

Ohhhh, is that what it does? Thanks for the info.

I'd like it please. It's too easy to accidentally click on the bookmark when you are just scrolling through a thread. The only solution currently is to keep adding a new bookmark

DecomposingComposers · 24/09/2019 13:39

@Elixir002

When I click on that link I'm just getting the "oops page not found" message

Declutterclogs · 11/10/2021 10:22

Hello! Just reviving this to see if any progress has been made? I'm on my mobile and have accidentally bookmarked a post in a long running thread that I'm part of. When I go back to the thread from my 'watching' or 'I'm on' lists, I want to go directly to the new posts. But instead it takes me back to my bookmark every time. Is there a way I can remove the bookmark?
Thanks!

Declutterclogs · 11/10/2021 12:52

Oops never mind sorry I must have been clicking the top link for the threads- if I click the most recent post instead I get to the right place and the bookmark doesn't cause any issues. Apologies

Glad you're all sorted now, Declutterclogs.

On the mobile site, you can always put a new bookmark at the most recent post - this will essentially remove the previous one.

Or you could bookmark the opening post (which removes any subsequent ones).
