Please can you make it easy to remove bookmarks

Why can't we double click on a bookmark to turn it off? It's really annoying. I've accidentally pressed on a couple of marks.

I use bookmarks all the time irl but couldn’t even if I wanted to in mn absolutely no option or icon etc.

I hadn't realised before reading this thread that you can no longer turn the bookmark, this must be a recent change as you certainly used to be able to, like literally in the last few days

I keep hitting it by accident as well, it's really annoying!

It's not like using browser bookmarks.

It is like using real bookmarks in a book!

If you are in the app, swipe left on the relevant post & you have an option to bookmark.

If in the browser on a pc, hover over the post to see a bookmark option.

If you are using the site in a browser on your phone, the option appears underneath each post (by accident it's easy to click on).

I find them essential - or you'd endlessly be scrolling through long threads.

The topic here is that people want to be able to undo them - you can in some places but it's a moot point as (as I'm slightly obsessively saying) you can just bookmark the last post you read & no issue about 'removing'

Aarrghh! Why won't anyone say why this is a problem? I don't get it and it seems that I'm not the only one.

earrings a thousand thanks for help and patience. Can’t for the life of me access them despite swiping and hovering - fully understand if some are able to do this, and especially if by mistake, you’d want to be able to undo.

Bookmarking happens accidentally on the safari browser while I’m scrolling on the phone. I can’t un-bookmark a thread which is really annoying. Have used MN for years but only noticed this in the last month or so.

No, Dragonglass I’m with you. Nobody has given any indication of why this is a problem. I don’t understand the terrible consequences of knowing where the last message you read in a thread is.

Thing is, there is no need to be able to undo it. Just keep reading & bookmarking!!

@pringle because you may have just bookmarked an earlier post accidentally and it's a pain when you are dipping in and out of long threads

That makes no sense. Read up to end of thread and bookmark ready for more posts or read what you have time for, bookmark, then pick up where you left off.

If you accidentally bookmark a post just bookmark the one you do want to mark and the first bookmark disappears, like moving an actual physical bookmark from one page of a book to another. You can move it forwards and backwards to wherever you want it. If you want to always go to the OP them bookmark that. I automatically bookmark the last post I read in every thread I’m on. How else do you find where you are up to?

It's not a problem unless you don't understand it. It's a wonderful feature. Please don't remove it.

Why is it annoying?

Bookmark the post you want to stop reading at.

Next time you click on the post, you'll go straight to where you stopped reading.

Like with any bookmark.

@losinglola we aren't asking to get rid of the function itself. We just want to be able to undo bookmarks on the browser like users can do on the app.

Continue reading. Bookmark where you stop reading. Original bookmark gone. Job done.

Because sometimes I don’t want to bookmark any part of the thread, at any point. It’s a slip of the finger.
