Why can't we double click on a bookmark to turn it off? It's really annoying. I've accidentally pressed on a couple of marks.

I follow threads through the “I’m on” tab. Bookmarks aren’t the only way.

No ones asking to get rid the the bookmark feature, we just want to be able to untick it. Should be simple enough.

Ginmel · 12/09/2019 23:13

And doable on the app @fox just not the browser

OP posts:
EarringsandLipstick · 12/09/2019 23:14

I mean, of course whatever way suits you. But following threads through 'I'm on' doesn't take you to the posts since you last posted?

Respectfully I honestly think a lot of people are misunderstanding what bookmarking does.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 12/09/2019 23:14

Yup. Clearly it’s bothering enough people.

EarringsandLipstick · 12/09/2019 23:16

I just checked Whatthefoxgoingon

Going to 'I'm on' will monitor the threads you are on. When you click on an individual thread it'll just take you to the beginning of the thread, unless you've bookmarked.

People really need to understand the functions!

Ginmel · 12/09/2019 23:20

Indeed @fox and that's just from posts this evening

OP posts:
EarringsandLipstick · 12/09/2019 23:28

Are @Ginmel and @Whatthefoxgoingon just winding us all up? Not answering questions, not taking clear explanations on board?

An elaborate and weird trick for the overly-obsessed like me? 😀

FelicityBeedle · 13/09/2019 02:30

We don’t want rid of the feature! We just want to be able to turn the bookmark off! I don’t necessarily notice I’ve done it, so I open the thread and it opens in the wrong place (more of an argument for moving the button admittedly). But more often it’s just an accident and it annoys me for no good reason having it there when I don’t want it there. Often I’ll re read all the OP responses when an update is posted, I don’t want the thread opening in the middle, nor do I want to have to scroll to the start to put the bookmark there so it opens where I want it to. It would just be simpler to be able to click again to disable the bookmark.

TheresSummatUnderThatBed · 13/09/2019 03:02

I agree, it's very annoying not to be able to remove an accidental bookmark. Often I might want to reload a page at the point where I am (the bottom of the page) to check for new posts. If it turns out I accidentally bookmarked a post further up I'll get dumped there in the thread instead and have to scroll all the way down again. At least if I can toggle the bookmark off again I can fix the problem quickly.

TheresSummatUnderThatBed · 13/09/2019 03:05

And for the record I do sometimes use bookmarks so I understand they can be useful. I still want to be able to toggle an individual bookmark off again if necessary.

Hoping the day shift will add to the voice

OP posts:
SillyMoomin · 13/09/2019 07:23

Well I’m adding to the “will you answer everyone’s questions about why it’s such an issue to just carry on reading and re-bookmark when you finish”? brigade

Rude to praise or reply to every who agrees with you @Ginmel but not reply to other people asking you a direct question

Ginmel · 13/09/2019 07:34

Lol. I'm not the rude one @simple

Thanks again to everyone who has replied letting mn know it annoys them too

OP posts:
palahvah · 13/09/2019 07:45

Yes please.

In answer to
will you answer everyone’s questions about why it’s such an issue to just carry on reading and re-bookmark when you finish”?

  • that's a workaround to a bug. We're asking for the bug to be fixed.
Ginmel · 13/09/2019 07:47

Nicely summarised @palahvah especially when the bug is only for those of us on the browser not the app

OP posts:
Eyre89 · 13/09/2019 07:47

Yes me too

homemadecommunistrussia · 13/09/2019 07:53

I don't understand the problem either, it's a bit baffling. Confused

SunshineCake · 13/09/2019 08:34

The bookmark feature can only be implemented if you tell it too.

This is making no sense at all.

It works the same on app as browser.

EarringsandLipstick · 13/09/2019 09:19

@Ginmel you are being deliberately goady.

Look, I get this is a small issue and sure if MNHQ want to fix that issue in the browser, grand.

But it's honestly NO issue because as people keep explaining, you don't need to turn it off. Keep reading. Bookmark last place you read to, done.

But you won't answer that 🤷🏻‍♀️

SillyMoomin · 13/09/2019 11:11

And not only being goody but being delivery annoying about it too- you’ve started three threads?, or linked to 3 threads about this? It’s not a campaign to send someone to the moon

And for the record, I use the mobile site. I cannot remove my bookmark. It’s not an issue. The world doesn’t stop turning

CookPassBabtridge · 13/09/2019 11:34

I've tested this out on the mobile site, surely a random bookmark you put accidentally is better than the thread starting from the top again?

HebeMumsnet · 13/09/2019 11:49

Thanks for all your feedback, everyone. We've passed this on to Tech now and they're going to look into the possibilities.

Ginmel · 13/09/2019 11:55

Thanks @hebe

OP posts:
HebeMumsnet · 13/09/2019 11:57

And while we're here, could we have a bit of peace and love? I won't half have a lot of explaining to do to the boss if I have to delete a site stuff thread about bookmarks because it's turned into a bunfight! Thanks!

SunshineCake · 13/09/2019 12:39

Hebe, maybe if you explain to those that don't understand, and won't listen to those that do, then maybe the OP and the other posters who are making no sense, will listen to you Hmm.
