Why can't we double click on a bookmark to turn it off? It's really annoying. I've accidentally pressed on a couple of marks.

I literally just bookmarked the above post by accident! It's really annoying.

Yes please MNHQ - click on/click off would be great.

FelicityBeedle · 12/09/2019 20:32

Definitely enable click on click off, does my head in!

Widdendream77 · 12/09/2019 20:34

Yes I’ve only bookmarked by accident and it’s a pain when I check back on a thread. Cheers

megletthesecond · 12/09/2019 20:35

Another one here.
Accidental book marking in the browser and I can't remove them.

Ginmel · 12/09/2019 20:37

Thanks all Gin

Can someone please explain why it’s a pain to bookmark? Surely if you go back to a thread, you want to go to the last post you read Confused?

Ginmel · 12/09/2019 20:39

@pringle because you may have just bookmarked an earlier post accidentally and it's a pain when you are dipping in and out of long threads

OP posts:
AwdBovril · 12/09/2019 20:41

Me too. I've accidentally bookmarked threads a few times - I can't remember the specifics but I probably just wanted to read from the beginning (or something). Why can't we remove them easily?

FiresideTreats · 12/09/2019 20:42

Yes, me please! Very annoying when I accidentally tap bookmark. Intuition says tap it again to remove it but it doesn't work.

Ginmel · 12/09/2019 20:43

@SophieLMumsnet

Definitely not alone

Also those that use the app can apparently turn off bookmarks so the function exists!

Thanks for the replies, all! We can't make promises, but we'll see what the thinking is.

@Ginmel

@pringle because you may have just bookmarked an earlier post accidentally and it's a pain when you are dipping in and out of long threads

This makes no sense.

As I keep saying, if you accidentally bookmark, keep reading and bookmark the last post you read

No worries about unintended bookmarks & you'll have the latest post you read bookmarked.

You can only have one bookmarked spot at a time. So each time you bookmark it's going to take you to that spot, not every bookmark you originally put in (this is the same on app / web on phone / web on pc)

chemenger · 12/09/2019 20:54

I don’t see the point, you can move the bookmark by bookmarking another post. Surely people just bookmark the last post they’ve read on a thread. Why wouldn’t you want to read from where you left the thread the last time?

Hazhaze · 12/09/2019 20:55

I didn't even know what the bookmark was for but I've hit it accidentally loads!

Ginmel · 12/09/2019 20:58

Thanks @SophieLMumsnet. People on the app can turn off bookmarks

OP posts:
donquixotedelamancha · 12/09/2019 20:58

Yep, me too.

Ginmel · 12/09/2019 20:58

It's just the rest of us on browsers that can't

OP posts:
HalfManHalfLabrador · 12/09/2019 21:00

I would like this too it’s really annoying

chemenger · 12/09/2019 21:01

What is it you don’t like about bookmarks? How else do you keep track of where you are in long threads?

HeronLanyon · 12/09/2019 21:03

I actually don’t even know what the bookmark icon is and can’t find it. So not aware I ever have book marked anything whilst scrolling. Nor what it would do. Nor why it would be annoying not to be able to undo. However - I agree fully !! Grin

EarringsandLipstick · 12/09/2019 21:09

HeronLanyon

The bookmark function does what it says!

You use it to bookmark the last post you read; when you click back into a post, it'll take you to that post again, so you can continue reading.

People are getting confused - on any device, app or browser, you bookmark where you want, and if you want to 'remove' that bookmark, you simply bookmark somewhere else. It's not complicated
