Come on MNHQ, this is off and unkind

There is a thread where the poster is distressed and right next to it is an advert for something related. No way is it there in a helpful way given the issue is causing distress and the OP is NOT asking for useful hints but for productive help.

MNHQ will have nothing to do with the ad.

ShirleyPhallus · 02/04/2019 15:50

MN don’t control ads like that

AnyaMumsnet · 02/04/2019 15:52

Hi there OP,

Thanks for getting in touch.

We're not really sure which advert it is you're referring to but we don't manually place adverts on each page. The ad might well be related to something you've searched yourself. It's quite likely that OP isn't seeing the same ad you're seeing.

Which ad is it that you're concerned about?

gamerchick · 02/04/2019 15:54

The OP probably isn't seeing the same advert as you. Your cookies are different.

We just need to think of something and it starts following you around now.

SavoyCabbage · 02/04/2019 16:08

I'm being followed by a pineapple shaped laundry basket from Next because my friend sent me a link to it. It's everywhere I go now. But you won't be.

SneakyGremlins · 02/04/2019 16:11

I have some, erm, yoonique lamps...

Mumsymumphy · 02/04/2019 16:22

I'm seeing Bonmarche ads after stupidly clicking on the bloody link in the 'school run dress' thread yesterday.

I'm also now worried as I actually like one of them...

Floralnomad · 02/04/2019 16:25

I’m seeing an ad for Bohea teas and as I only drink English breakfast it’s wasted on me .

spugzbunny · 02/04/2019 16:25

Hideous necklace and nappies over here!

BarkandCheese · 02/04/2019 16:26

I have Wallace, a service for fine quality printing for artists (goodness know why, I’m not an artist and would never use their services) and Bohea fine teas.

gamerchick · 02/04/2019 16:37

I've got some book club.

GrumpyOldMare · 02/04/2019 16:39

No ads here. Maybe it's the same for others.I love my adblocker.

Smotheroffive · 02/04/2019 16:46

I have that floral !! I have opted out of all the companies targetting your data to personalise ads, so I just get this one (as a baseline I think).

Sorry OP, as this has obviously distressed you, but that is the point of the ad,that it relates to something that's been typed, and on this occasion that looks highly offensive.

It's just algorithms again. They have a lot to be blamed for Angry

BTW @anyamumsnet my ads now reach across the screen so when I try to scroll up or down it will sometimes unavoidably trigger the ad to load.

This is a site issue surely, and I shouldn't be forced to load an ad against my will. The ads didn't use to span the entirety of my screen previously, there was always a swipeable border around?

Heathcliff27 · 02/04/2019 16:54

Nothing but ads for The White Company here

TwitterQueen1 · 02/04/2019 17:04

Effing vacuum cleaners here... I know I need a new one. Stop reminding me every flippin' hour that my cleaner broke it Angry.

SunshineCake · 02/04/2019 19:50

I haven't searched for anything remotely related to the ad. I'd rather not say what the ad is for on this thread as then everyone will see the posters distress.

OP posts:
spugzbunny · 02/04/2019 19:56

Ads change for everyone, you will be seeing something different to what they are seeing. If it's inappropriate (dildos, guns etc) then you need to screen shot it and send it to mumsnet so they can make sure their ads are appropriate.

spugzbunny · 02/04/2019 19:59

If it's something like pregnancy tests on an abortion thread or baby grows on a miscarriage thread then it's just the ads picking up on the algorithms of what is being discussed or what you've been clicking on unfortunately.

Smotheroffive · 02/04/2019 20:01

Sunshine it will relate to whats been written on the screen, not what you've searched for.
Is it still there? If you deliberately search for other things, idk, frying pans, or pictures of ddogs or something that will alter your show of ads.
Or opt out of them all, like i do! Grin

SexNotJenga · 02/04/2019 20:01

Does nobody else get the adverts for the gay cruises?

Not a joke.

Smotheroffive · 02/04/2019 20:02

Likelihood is,that the OP never saw it, so hopefully you will be less worried about that now?

It's a very impersonal/personal thing IYSWIM!

SneakyGremlins · 02/04/2019 20:03

I'd love those adverts. Send them to me, sexbutjenga?

Smotheroffive · 02/04/2019 20:04

Certainly unreasonable to accuse/blame MNHQ for being deliberately cruel and unkind!

Perhaps you might have realised that by now?

Bluntness100 · 02/04/2019 20:05

Well if it's a thread on here, I'm sure anyone can read it, and what's the point in starting a thread then refusing to say what rhe ad is for, how can anyone, but mostly mnhq, help?Confused

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 02/04/2019 20:06

No but youve clicked on a thread about the topic.
