Keep getting directed to dodgy sites

Hi, three times today I’ve clicked on a thread and it’s opened another window, to a dodgy site. The last one was a “100th person to click wins an iPad” type of thing. I’m on an iPad with iOS 11.2. Any ideas?

This happened to me for a few weeks! No idea why and it seems to have stopped now. It was bloody annoying! The pages just automatically opened when I clicked to look on the next page of a thread, and clicking ‘back’ didn’t work. I assume this is on your phone by the way?

I’ve just been closing the new window down. I seem to remember it being an issue on mn a whole ago but I can’t remember what (if anything) was done to fix it.

I was closing the windows but it then would mean I would lose my place in a thread and have to go back to it, very annoying if you were working your way through a very long one!

Me too, I'm getting the same one as MsAdorabelle.
Really irritating and making me wonder if my iPad has somehow been infected.
Please investigate and repair, Mumsnet HQ.

iPads and iPhones are basically uninfectable, thanks to competent security programming at Apple. What you're seeing are bad ads served by one of Mumsnet's ad providers. They'll come and go, as the ad providers or Mumsnet filter them out. It's a cat and mouse game between them and the shitty ads.

I'd very much recommend installing an adblocker. I use 1Blocker X and never see this sort of thing. For security reasons you need to follow the instructions to activate the blocker - 1Blocker will tell you to manually go into Settings/Safari/Content Blockers and enable it there.

Sorry to Mumsnet for blocking their ad revenue, but it's their own fault for not policing the ads well enough.

It has now happened 12 more times since my last post. I’m going out for a couple of hours. If it’s still doing it when I get back the addblocker is going back on.

Yup, me too. I’m going off MN now and waiting til they sort it - it’s too annoying having to keep logging out and in again to get rid of the damn things.

@MNHQ me too. It's happened at least 20 times this morning. I've also got what looks like code on the right hand side of the screen and the writing is tiny.

Can you tell us what's going on please?

Glad I saw this thread, I’m getting it too and thought I must have downloaded something dodgy on to my iPad.

Same here, there is another thread on it in site stuff called ‘annoying pop ups’.

I’m getting the same BT one as Paws. It started this morning.

I’ve been getting a page that says something like Welcome to Vodafone you’ve been selected etc. But it’s a blank white page, not Vodafone website.

Yes same here, it made my screen keep flashing and I couldn’t click anything. Managed to close all the tabs and ok now, but sort it out please!

I keep getting pop-ups telling me that MN is not a safe site. This happens on iPhone and iPad.

I'm getting linked to some 'Facebook' (except it's not) competition page every time I click on Active convos.
