Could you explain the deletions for calling out racism please?

Some, but not all perhaps harshly worded, but how else do you say racism is shit? I am talking about the deletions on the thread about the golliwog mugs.

What on earth made you think I was talking to you, Janey? Just a general point, that’s all.

I was going to stay away from this thread, but perfect's comment has been deleted, so I want to say something. My ds suffers from severe allergy. I reacted to the word "tingle". It was my over reaction I admit, but many people ridiculed me with the word "tingle", and mocked me. Same people are shouting discrimination here. I am very sceptcal.

C8H10N4O2 · 13/05/2018 12:46

@MNHQ despite attempts to derail this thread the question still stands.

When dog whistle and less blatant *isms and common fake stories are thrown around these threads, can we call them out or not? At the moment it seems like bigoted posters are protected, the targets of their bigotry are not, nor are others wanting to call it out.

Please cite where I have done this or withdraw the remark

immortalmarble · 13/05/2018 12:48

No one did that irvine

As you know.

user789653241 · 13/05/2018 12:50

immortalmarble, yes I know you didn't. But others did.

user789653241 · 13/05/2018 12:53

C8H10N4O2 , you are not the only one on this thread, and I didn't say everyone on this thread. I am not talking about you at all.

BertrandRussell · 13/05/2018 12:54

Sorry?Who’s shouting discrimination?

user789653241 · 13/05/2018 13:03

Isn't the purpose of this thread calling for not allowing discrimination?

immortalmarble · 13/05/2018 13:06

Not quite.

People can and do discriminate. They shouldn’t, but they do.

However, when discrimination is challenged, things understandably can become heated and as such those posts are removed. This can have the effect of making threads loo sided in favour of posts which are ultimately expressing very distasteful views but are not breaking talk guidelines. Paxillin questioned this; MN have rectified it. Unfortunately, we now have an attempt to try and undermine pax’s credibility which is as unfair as it is unpleasant.

immortalmarble, I have been truthful from the start. I am not afraid to admit I was wrong if I was wrong, and I have made plenty of mistakes. It crossed my mind to erase all my history but I didn't. Because I have nothing to hide/be ashamed of myself for who I am. If people want to see my history, they are welcomed to. My intention is not to be unfair and try to discredit someone at all. But if they truly is what they say they are, then there's nothing to worry about.

No, not a clanger. Just realizing that you are not going to accept that, while white women are regularly targetted with misogynist abuse, it is very unlikely that anyone would say of a high achieving Cambridge educated white woman that “She was strutting around like a typist that has shagged the boss” Because while that is deeply misogynist, the extra edge of the implied “uppity-ness” is reserved for black women.

As I said. janey, you don’t get it. That’s fine. I am aware from other threads that close analysis of societal behaviour isn’t your ‘thing’.

And yes, I know that referencing other threads isn’t done, but live by the sword, die by the sword.

“There are thousands of allegations of women 'sleeping their way to the top' . So that comment really isn't a race issue no matter how much you want it to be“

Last time. It is “strutting” and “typist” that are the specific issues here. Of course women have always been accused of sleeping their way to the top.

Unfortunately a valid question appears to have been derailed due to some unknown vendettas. Perhaps those that have a complaint against posts on the Reddit sub should take them up on the sub, rather than bring them over to Mumsnet. MNHQ can't be expected to moderate across forums surely?

SophieLMumsnet · 14/05/2018 15:16

Hi all,

As BlushingCrows says - we can't do much about what's said on other sites, but if anyone has questions about posts on MN they'd like addressed then please do report to us or drop us a line at [email protected].

Thanks Flowers

"it is very unlikely that anyone would say of a high achieving Cambridge educated white woman that “She was strutting around like a typist that has shagged the boss” Because while that is deeply misogynist, the extra edge of the implied “uppity-ness” is reserved for black women."

This is interesting and perhaps valid on a population level, but I have to say that there are counterexamples.

I am deathly pale in winter - as Caucasian as they come - and educated to graduate level. In a recent jury that I was heading as representative of the company that organised the event, I was introduced by one member to another as "X's wife" Hmm

It didn't seem relevant to that particular misogynist that aside from being DH's wife, I am also 50% owner in the company that he & I founded together, and that I am the one with the education and experience in that field while said husband has neither.

He is probably still wondering why he is pushed out of further participation in our company events. Asshole.
