Could you explain the deletions for calling out racism please?

Some, but not all perhaps harshly worded, but how else do you say racism is shit? I am talking about the deletions on the thread about the golliwog mugs.

Yes, the assumption that the woman was a bully, and should have booked in advance, as if disability means you can never have to travel at short notice was extraordinary.

TheHeraldOfAndraste · 10/05/2018 15:05

A single response of a few sentences by HQ on this thread.

Thanks so much.

ClosDesMouches · 10/05/2018 15:10

I'm finding it increasingly difficult to know exactly what the interpretations are within TGs.

This is a fairly new account, but before I deregged my old one I'd been on here for over 10 years.
Because I've been here well over a decade, I thought i understood TGs, but suddenly it's not ok to say 'bless', your post will be deleted.
There are plenty of "fuck off" s to be found though.
And racist comments are now acceptable, whilst calling out that racism is a deletion offence.
Confused

Hi everyone,

We've been back over that thread and deleted a lot more posts that we felt crossed the line - we're sorry that this wasn't done sooner. We do delete all PAs, yes - even if it's felt that one was deserved. We try to keep things civil, and we think it's possible to point out that someone's wrong or unreasonable without personal attacks. (And we do count 'fuck off' as one). If there's a post you think we've missed, please do report it to us and we will revisit.

C8H10N4O2 really sorry that your report hasn't been replied to. We'll have a look for that now and get back to you. Flowers

paxillin · 10/05/2018 16:37

Thank you. It looks better now, but very hole-y. Perhaps we need a "that, too, is racism/ disablism/ misogyny/ ageism" reminder somewhere. Until then, people will jump down the throat of bold as brass racists.

I am now slightly grumpy.

I wish there were no deletions except for absolute unequivocal personal attacks. And only then at the request of the person being attacked. We're all grown ups here.

yawning801 · 10/05/2018 16:54

So "fuck off" is not acceptable, but "off you fuck" is? I started a thread a few months ago and got told that by multiple posters, amongst other "personal attacks". Not one deletion. Explanation please?

user789653241 · 10/05/2018 18:09

Not sure some people talking about racism actually really understand what it is though. I was called fake foreigner by someone due to my use of written English. Makes me very sceptical if they really understand what we foreigners face everyday.

Having an opinion on “mixed race people” full stop is rather racist in my opinion.

It turns “them” into a classification of people or their own rather than individuals.

MillicentF · 10/05/2018 19:17

And don’t get me started on ageism. That regularly goes unchallenged.

user789653241 · 10/05/2018 19:23

Why having an opinion about "mixed race people" be a racist? My ds is a mixed race child. I am a foreigner who doesn't want to give up my nationality to become British. Some of the things people who claims to be non racist sometimes doesn't really make sense to me at all. They say they aren't racist, but ridicule foreign people foe their difference. For me, it's nothing about what they say, but about how they treat us in everyday life, that makes them non racist, imo.

paxillin · 10/05/2018 19:23

Yes, agree on the ageism. Current example on AIBU.

immortalmarble · 10/05/2018 19:27

If someone has been rude to you because of your cultural heritage then that’s awful.

But that doesn’t detract from the horrible comments on a thread about golliwogs.

user789653241 · 10/05/2018 19:34

It is just one example. there are so many racism or other form of discriminations. But sometimes I find people who are truthful to their feelings more genuine than someone who think/say they are not, but they really are deep down.

Cobrider · 10/05/2018 19:38

irvineoneohone yes it’s ironic that you were bullied off another site and called all sorts of names because of your nationality (by someone on this thread).Completely hypocritical.
I hope you are okay, I feel bad for not defending you, it was all very ugly.

Bullying and racism frowned upon by the op only here though apparently.

Indeed. On here and anywhere else.

@Cobrider, no I don't think it's nothing to do with my nationality Grin, but to do with my personality, but thanks.

Tbh, I felt quite privileged to be called a fake foreigner by someone who have 20 years experience as language expert. My Written English must be pretty good.

I'm just reading the thread you linked, @C8H10N4O2. I think it is unfixable, there are still many posters going on about the disability as a ruse to get a seat.
