The next time you send an email about a poster to that poster by mistake. Probably best not to refer to your users as 'these people'

My heartfelt, apologies, Soupy. I thought my words were emollient enough to convey the fact that while I may disagree on the finer points of this discussion I fully respect your right to respond to my own points with laughter and the odd interjection of "bollocks" and suchlike 🍷

MudGolum · 24/08/2017 14:24

Honestly I cringe when people defend them so strenuously, they don't give a shit about you unless you fit the demograph and I think that's been made very clear today.

Preparing the site for sale. You're not wanted. We need somewhere new.

PandorasXbox · 24/08/2017 14:26

I don't think that true Soupdragon. Posters have been saying for years about their frustration regarding the way trolls are allowed to keep ruining the site and how we feel it's not right to keep being told to stop troll hunting ( even if we aren't actually troll hunting but questioning a rather iffy story ) but nothing ever changes. Decent posters are leaving in droves because they're not being listened to.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 24/08/2017 14:27

This thread is clearly going nowhere because no one, on either side, actually wants to solve anything, they just want to find fault And point the pointy finger of blame.

I think there is an element of that tbh.

Not sure how it gets resolved.

Circumlocutor · 24/08/2017 14:30

I wonder how many unique posters per month.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 24/08/2017 14:31

even if we aren't actually troll hunting but questioning a rather iffy story

I agree that trolling shouldn't happen but sometimes when troll hunting has happened it can be down to just simply imo that the OPs problem or issue is so far removed from others lives and experiences.

There are some things in my life I could post that some would probably call troll, it however is 100% true.

Again, how that gets resolved, I don't know.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/08/2017 14:31

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unique_user

"a unique user (UU) is "An IP address plus a further identifier."

MsGameandWatching · 24/08/2017 14:31

Oh there's definitely quite a few more than one. I'm not referring to anyone in particular I can assure you of that. I'm not wrong though.

SerfTerf · 24/08/2017 14:33

Have you seen this MsGame?

www.reddit.com/r/MNTrolls/comments/6t4d9e/the_truth_about_old_queenie/?st=J6P6CAG7&sh=2a024fde

It makes me wish PMs were looked at MORE.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/08/2017 14:34

Again, how that gets resolved, I don't know

It gets resolved by reporting to MNHQ so they can take a look (using more info than users have access to) rather than troll hunting all over the thread

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/08/2017 14:36

It makes me wish PMs were looked at MORE.

I'm pretty sure you can report PMs to MN?

SerfTerf · 24/08/2017 14:36

Actually it might be on this one (I can't go through and read it all again);

www.reddit.com/r/MNTrolls/comments/6vjmnz/making_a_new_account/

But apaz MN PMs are used from really vicious school-style bullying of vulnerable posters. Quite the eye-opener.

SerfTerf · 24/08/2017 14:37

I'm pretty sure you can report PMs to MN?

I hope whoever was on the receiving end did just that.

And anyone else who got one.

Nasty.

SandyMumsnet · 24/08/2017 14:39

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine

reported a really off thread and been repeatedly ignored

I think MNHQ need to go back to autoresponding to reports. The complete silence after a report is a bit disconcerting.

Hi there ItsAllGoingToBeFine As far as we are aware, every report receives an automatic response from us. This news is disconcerting and we will look into it from our end. Thanks for the heads up.

A thanks for reporting page comes up when you press the button. No email any more though.

endehors · 24/08/2017 14:41

I thought we were recently told we wouldn't receive an automatic response to reports anymore ( of the non spam variety)? Or am I thinking of something else?

Quisipespi · 24/08/2017 14:42

Hi there ItsAllGoingToBeFine As far as we are aware, every report receives an automatic response from us.
Definelty not the case unless you mean the page that comes after submitting the report.

SerfTerf · 24/08/2017 14:42

This news is disconcerting

What? It was a deliberate policy change wasn't it? Confused

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/08/2017 14:42

What? It was a deliberate policy change wasn't it?

That's what I thought.

Wow, Reddit is hard to follow! Grin

SerfTerf · 24/08/2017 14:44

I had a thread in site stuff about this very thing a few weeks ago (because I share ItsAll's feeling that it's a change that has caused problems).
