The next time you send an email about a poster to that poster by mistake. Probably best not to refer to your users as 'these people'

Hi there DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen This poster had a posting history littered with inconsistencies leading us to believe she was a possible troll. We got in touch and she did admitted to those inconsistencies, although the 'stuck on holiday with sciatica' thread was actually a genuine RL issue. However, she then asked to be deregistered, and so the thread was not reinstated

Thanks for replying.
The OP said that she changed details now and again over the years to protect her identity,so changing the number of DC's she has etc. She said she'd been posting for 10 years iirc. She asked to be deregistered as she was so upset her original thread was pulled.

Are you saying posters shouldn't tweak the truth now and again to protect their identity, especially knowing it could end up in TM at any minute?

endehors · 24/08/2017 14:02

I envy your diplomatic skills, Saucery Smile

Saucery · 24/08/2017 14:03

Why thank you, endehors. ♥️

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 24/08/2017 14:05

Hi FaithHopeCharityDesperation Sometimes if a user's posting history leads us to suspect they maybe a troll, we temporarily 'suspend their account to flush'. The thinking behind this being, if they are genuine (many trolls join with an email address that's only live for 24-36 hours) they will get in contact with us to ask what's going on. We can then open a dialogue with them to voice our concerns.

I have only ever used one email address, one MN account and only a handful of posts deleted over app 4 years of posting - some deletions were for reposting posts which were subsequently deleted. My posting history & details were entirely consistent and I was clearly not a troll.
It still took days for MNHQ to reply to numerous emails from me querying why I couldn't log in.

If this is what's happening to other users too, then it's pretty obvious to me that they are likely to re-reg entirely due to lack of contact tbh.

Sometimes, simple communication is all that's required.

When will the inevitable message come. We're going to take this thread down now. Thanks everyone for your input. Hope I'm wrong.

ibbleobbleblackbubble · 24/08/2017 14:07

As I read it, it was just an analogy pointing out how it would be strange to welcome people who are happy to flouting rules
An analogy is never just an analogy, we choose to compare X with Y because something about x resonates with how we feel about y

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/08/2017 14:07

Not when a lot of them are on both forums

Define "a lot"....

Well we have over 10 million monthly unique users [JustineMumsnet]

800+ [Meditrina] (I'll be generous and round up to 1000)

I make that 0.01% of users, not really a lot...

Saucery · 24/08/2017 14:08

My ad banner at the top of the page is for software against 'Internal Email Threats' 😂😂

MsGameandWatching · 24/08/2017 14:11

There's a one or two posters on this forum who get away with absolute murder. They're snidey, attacking and spiteful and they constantly cross the line, but only just. They really stand out. Yet MN never do anything about them. That's because they fit the demograph of what MN want to offer to its advertisers. They're thirty/early forty something, live in nice Farrow and Ball painted homes, their children attend Grammars and Leafy Comps, they shop at Boden and holiday with friends in Tuscany and at Centre Parcs. That is who MN want on here, that was the vision from the start. Others shoplifters who couldn't give a shit about the ads and don't click on them and who don't engage with the rest of the site are annoying and irrelevant and get treated with an dismissive yet iron fist when they are deemed to step out of line. I am another long standing poster who received THE most dismissive, couldn't care less email from MN - supposedly for troll hunting. In it they said I had been repeatedly warned for my posting style and other little jabs that made it clear they didn't even know who I actually was, yet I had never in all my time in MN had a warning email from them. Honestly I cringe when people defend them so strenuously, they don't give a shit about you unless you fit the demograph and I think that's been made very clear today.

BackieJerkhart · 24/08/2017 14:11

Grin saucery!

SoupDragon · 24/08/2017 14:11

I'm so glad that someone think they know my opinions and where I stand better than I do. Even if they are completely wrong. It's pathetic.

Saucery · 24/08/2017 14:13

Try not to take it to heart, Soupy. No one knows the real You Brew Cake

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 24/08/2017 14:14

I think it's a standard format email they send - a couple of people said they'd had the same wording on one of the Reddit posts.

ibbleobbleblackbubble · 24/08/2017 14:15

Most of us are just shoplifting dross freeriding the on the Grace and favour of the nice mummies from the leafy suburbs

Circumlocutor · 24/08/2017 14:16

'They're thirty/early forty something, live in nice Farrow and Ball painted homes, their children attend Grammars'

Gosh. I can't imagine who you mean...

SoupDragon · 24/08/2017 14:16

I think this thread demonstrates quite nicely how tone isn't conveyed terribly well in type (on both sides). If it had been dealt with in a face to face meeting (impossible I know) it would probably all have been sorted by now.

@FaithHopeCharityDesperation

Ah I see, sorry, I don't know the answer Faith I'm sorry, but will find out and get back or one of the team will.

It's ok, I'm over it now Grin

It's just that I can see that the lack of communication (which seems to be a recurring theme on this matter) is a probable reason why people re-reg.

Hi FaithHopeCharityDesperation We've had a look at our mails to you and can see we did have a chat with you about your posting style and managed to sort things out, which is always our preferred option.
Then it appears, after reinstating your account, there was a techie error (really unfortunate, but these things do happen) where you needed to reset your password, which again we sorted. Hope that clears things up.

SoupDragon · 24/08/2017 14:17

Exactly what is it I've done to piss you off, Saucery? You've done nothing but made ridiculous little snipes at me.

Circumlocutor · 24/08/2017 14:18

10 million unique users per month? Not on your nellie.

MadMags · 24/08/2017 14:18

I had the same email.

Had never received an email warning before.

SoupDragon · 24/08/2017 14:19

Actually, I don't care.

This thread is clearly going nowhere because no one, on either side, actually wants to solve anything, they just want to find fault And point the pointy finger of blame.

Same here. I had the "its bad form to troll hunt" (I had linked to a posters previous thread under a different username that proved without a doubt they were the same person they were lying about strenuously denying being) and then tagged on the end was the "oh yeah and we've noticed that your posts in general aren't in the spirit of mumsnet and we may have to consider a permanent suspension in future" I asked for clarification on what they meant regarding my posts in general but didn't get any.
