The next time you send an email about a poster to that poster by mistake. Probably best not to refer to your users as 'these people'

I agree that this thread is Shock and Grin in equal measure.

Some folk seem to have an entertaining combination of a very over inflated sense of their own importance to a site that serves millions, and a lack of understanding of how sites/ businesses function.

TheNiffler · 24/08/2017 13:47

Wonder how long it will take them to go through this thread with the old Banhammer.

MadMags · 24/08/2017 13:47

Oh I have no doubt I'm on my way out Grin

SoupDragon · 24/08/2017 13:48

It's like you're talking different languages

You're spot on there, Soupy

And imo The truth is somewhere in the middle of all the accusations and misunderstandings on both sides.

I have no reason to suck up to MNHQ and I have no reason to side with the "Reddits" (for want of a better word!).

I do have a problem with individuals who fling insults about and start bitchfests though.

SoupDragon · 24/08/2017 13:49

Soupy, you're fab, you are. Bless you.

I wish I could say the same about you, even sarcastically.

SandyMumsnet · 24/08/2017 13:49

@FaithHopeCharityDesperation

Why do posters get their account suspended with no notification or explanation?

This perhaps explains why people re-reg.

It took days of repeated emails from me to MNHQ to find out why I couldn't log in for them to eventually tell me I'd been temporarily suspended.
(I didn't re-reg btw, I served my suspension like a good girl - but it was a bit of a shitty way to be dealt with tbh).

Hi FaithHopeCharityDesperation Sometimes if a user's posting history leads us to suspect they maybe a troll, we temporarily 'suspend their account to flush'. The thinking behind this being, if they are genuine (many trolls join with an email address that's only live for 24-36 hours) they will get in contact with us to ask what's going on. We can then open a dialogue with them to voice our concerns.

SerfTerf · 24/08/2017 13:50

I think "The Reddits" can probably pinch the "nest of vipers" title now Smile

TheNiffler · 24/08/2017 13:50

BTW Justine, I've reported your shoplifting comment as a personal attack. We'll get round to emailing your suspension sometime next month.

IdoHaveAName · 24/08/2017 13:50

The tone I'm getting from Justine is very much one of "look guys, we have 10 million of you lot, if you don't like the site, bugger off; but do it quietly and don't be bad-mouthing us, cos, ya know, we don't give a shit about you, but we're not about to let you damage our reputation". "Therefore, we will briefly engage with you in an effort to pretend to want to work with you so that you'll keep your mouths shut over on reddit".

Saucery · 24/08/2017 13:50

That's absolutely fine with me, Soupy. You're a valued and upstanding member of MN and I appreciate you giving me your time to respond, even if your viewpoint is different to mine Smile

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/08/2017 13:51

Can you answer my question about the sciatica thread please?Smile

You calling me a troll Hmm

Troll hunting now? And isn't that another personal attack.

SerfTerf · 24/08/2017 13:52

No message of any kind at all? That's harsh to any non-trolls caught up in a "flush", isn't it?

Couldn't a standard message be sent at least? Something very neutral that at least shows that there's a possibility of discussion?

I.suspext.that may not be the best idea. Maybe an auto email explaining what has happened and why with the option to reply and discuss? Wouldn't really be any extra work on your end.

@DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen

I'd like to ask why the original 'stuck on holiday with sciatica' hasn't been reinstated. It was taken down but not put back as far as I know and the OP was genuine.

Hi there DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen This poster had a posting history littered with inconsistencies leading us to believe she was a possible troll. We got in touch and she did admitted to those inconsistencies, although the 'stuck on holiday with sciatica' thread was actually a genuine RL issue. However, she then asked to be deregistered, and so the thread was not reinstated.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/08/2017 13:56

reported a really off thread and been repeatedly ignored

I think MNHQ need to go back to autoresponding to reports. The complete silence after a report is a bit disconcerting.

BackieJerkhart · 24/08/2017 13:56

Well this thread has been a real eye-opener. For anyone who wasn't sure how they are regarded by "those people" Wink at HQ it's all right here for you to see. I have to say the professionalism has knocked me sideways Hmm advertisers take note. Have the fail nabbed this one yet? or do they not have permission to take this one?

TheNiffler · 24/08/2017 13:56

Honey has left, Maryz. She's over on Reddit, with the rest of MN.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/08/2017 13:57

Glad you found that thread Maryz as that was one of the examples that stuck out in my mind but couldn't actually remember which thread.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/08/2017 13:57

MN is its users, not it's ex users.

SoupDragon · 24/08/2017 13:57

You're a valued and upstanding member of MN

Don't talk bollocks.

TheNiffler · 24/08/2017 13:58

Sandy, it is normal, and actually good posting practice to change personal details - 2 boys to 2 girls, etc. It makes it less easy to expose who a poster is in RL. To use that as an excuse is ridiculous.

TheNiffler · 24/08/2017 13:59

Not when a lot of them are on both forums, ItsAll.

Saucery · 24/08/2017 13:59

As you wish, Soupy. Sometimes I think some prolific posters with an input into many, many topics just aren't given the recognition they deserve, that's all. Flowers
