Rules around banning?

TheUnworthy · 13/11/2016 21:54

Feeling a little nervous after the recent thread that went 'poof' and reports of people being banned and not knowing why/not having any deleted posts beforehand.

Is there a three strike rule? No strikes?

OP posts:

Wannabe hasn't been posting under other names.

If that's to me Polter whilst I suppose in theory it's possible, it is extremely unlikely for the person I'm talking about.

Ghostofasmile · 14/11/2016 16:28

I doubt the likes of Fanjo and Jason were either.

I thought Fanjo deregged after the last big explosion of SN threads.

It's a fair point though so i do get why you said you it

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 14/11/2016 17:01

I'm quite sure fanjo deregged. When did Jason go?!

Soubriquet · 14/11/2016 17:02

I thought Jason got banned for a personal attack, then came back under a different account and was then either banned again or left

crashdoll · 14/11/2016 17:03

Jason was banned for being unpleasant and made a PA. He did apologise but HQ didn't shift.

Fanjo left.

Owllady · 14/11/2016 17:08

Jason was quite unpleasantly attacked himself. I know it seems to be a theme on these threads to deny things exist, especially if it is over explained to you, but it was a perfect example of how ignorant people can be regarding disability.

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 14/11/2016 17:11

I just said on the moderation thread, there is a worrying theme that those who are more likely to be anti racist, sexist, disabilist etc, are those who are leaving (/being banned) in droves atm.

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 14/11/2016 17:12

It's very weird.

Devilishpyjamas · 14/11/2016 17:14

Yes I agree Beyond. Much like RL at the moment. Where are all the moderate liberal types?

MsGameandWatch · 14/11/2016 17:28

I think this too.

I didn't comment on the situation with Jason. I didn't see that thread. I only read a subsequent thread where I found out that he was gone. I was just explaining that he wasn't banned suddenly and without any reason like WannaBe. Please don't imply that I am ignorant to things about disability. I passed no judgement on him and did explain that I knew he apologised.

I can't imagine they would be so short sighted as to use how many reports they get on a post as their ruler for whether or not someone is banned. That would allow bullying and (as you said, Buttered) mob rule, which is hardly the way a professional site would run.

I think this does happen.

In my case, I was told 'lots of posters reported you for being goady'.
It was a bunch of regulars reporting me for trolling.
I wasn't goady or trolling, all my posts were well thought out. They just decided to disagree with me and that was that.

Ironically, the one thing I thought I may be banned for (naming a regular publically who had sent an abusive pm) wasn't even mentioned. So it definetly felt like mob rule (and it has changed my posting style because now I avoid certain posts that normally I would post on, when I see certain names posting)

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 14/11/2016 18:29

Ah, not those pesky regulars again. The royalty kind, or just the plebs?

crashdoll · 14/11/2016 18:32

Yep, Jason did apologise and very graciously, from what I heard. I have never seen him being generally unpleasant. I thought it was a temporary ban but I could be wrong.

GingerIvy · 14/11/2016 18:37

Teacher - that was slightly tongue in cheek when I said that. I suspect the irony was lost. Grin

TeacherBob · 14/11/2016 18:37

Ah, not those pesky regulars again. The royalty kind, or just the plebs?

I think we both know the answer to that lol.

I am not going there!

TeacherBob · 14/11/2016 18:38

Gingerlvy.

The irony was lost.
