Please MNHQ...PLEASE can we have an edit button?

Even just a five minute timed one. Just for spelling mistakes and so on....

I often don't realise I have misspelled something until I read it in context with the thread. The preview does not help with this either.
I itch to correct myself and I can't be alone in that surely?

Go on go on go on. Ye will ye will ye will.

Please???

Seconded

ChuckBiscuits · 24/10/2016 11:13

Fourthed. Assuming someone will have jumped in between seconded and me.

ChuckBiscuits · 24/10/2016 11:13

Bugger. See if we had an edit button I could have changed it.

SailingThroughTime · 24/10/2016 11:14

Yes please.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 24/10/2016 13:52

No, just imagine the rewriting of posts and the consequent bun fights.

We have a preview button.

Lots of us just DGA sufficient F.

minipie · 24/10/2016 14:19

Hmm I wouldn't have a standard edit button myself as so often the replies on threads are in response to the particular words used (including the spelling mistakes, this being pedant heaven MN) and with edited wording the replies would make no sense.

However, it might be useful to have the ability to add extra text at the end of the OP - so that any "drip feeds" or updates can be added to the OP. (Obviously it would have to be clearly marked as new text and time/date given). This would avoid the issue of posters who come along on page 8, haven't read all the OP's posts and give an opinion which is irrelevant/obsolete/ inappropriate.

n0ne · 24/10/2016 14:31

Oo yes, minipie's idea is fab!

pictish · 24/10/2016 14:45

Why not have an edit facility like facebook does, whereby the edit history is available to view as an option?

Truly...I only want it to add bits to posts or to correct my grammar - it's not for the want of taking anything away other than spelling mistakes and rogue apostrophes.

Come on MNHQ - you know it would be a goer.

FATEdestiny · 24/10/2016 14:51

I'd really like to be able to correct my spelling.

GaryGilmoresEyes · 24/10/2016 14:53

YES! Please.

WotNoLoobrush · 24/10/2016 15:06

Sorry but I don't understand why some posters don't find the preview button useful? If it weren't for that button, then I'd agree.

WorkAccount · 24/10/2016 15:09

Oo yes, minipie's idea is fab!

I have been asking for this for years, so any clarifications can go at the start of the thread and new/hurried users understand immediately.

ChuckitintheBucket · 24/10/2016 15:16

Never understand people asking for an edit button. Surely the preview button is adequate . Its open to all sorts of abuse, history being rewritten and all that.

pictish · 24/10/2016 15:24

Chuck it'a quite simple really - you don't always spot errors during or immediately after typing something, so preview schmeview.

OP posts:
AyeAmarok · 24/10/2016 15:28

I'd be happy with even 30 seconds of an opportunity to correct misspellings.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/10/2016 15:30

Yes please!

although as MNHQ struggle to change the colours a whole new level of functionality might be a bit beyond them

YouHadMeAtCake · 24/10/2016 15:30

Yes please to an edit button

pictish · 24/10/2016 15:35

I have a post atm whereby I spelled 'cajole' as 'cojole' - at the time and immediately afterwards it looked right. Now I can see it is obviously wrong and it's making me nnnggghh. Kwim?

OP posts:
Doje · 24/10/2016 15:40

I think an edit option should be available for the first 10 seconds after posting. That's when I see all my errors!

KatherineMumsnet · 24/10/2016 16:23

Thanks for your feedback, everyone.

This has come up a few times before, and we can certainly flag it again but make no promises!

JenLindleyShitMom · 24/10/2016 16:27

You can just post underneath it with someone the correct spelling. But really, no-one actually cares about spelling. We all get fat fingers at times, we all misspell things. It's. I big deal.

JenLindleyShitMom · 24/10/2016 16:27

No* big deal. See! Grin
