Browsing mumsnet using the chrome browser on an android phone.

Opened a thread "www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/2729635-Im-being-watched-WATCHED" on an "open in new tab" but the new tab opened with a spam advert page of the kind that tries to make you not navigate away. I presume this is an unintended hijack of some kind.

I copied the content of the navigation field in case it is of use to you but it seems to be gibberish.

This seems to happen quite regularly - what kind of info will help you to stop it?

And again this morning Angry. Mumsnet completely unusable on my phone.

ThatIsNachoCheese · 18/09/2016 12:57

And yet again.
Samsung, obviously not app as there isn't one. Rather not say my location.
Any news MNHQ?

legotits · 18/09/2016 13:01

Me too.
Happened all morning.

marsybum · 18/09/2016 13:14

Happening again, this is being beyond a joke now, makes the site seem unsafe and gives the impression you don't care about the users this is affecting! I can't quite believe you asked if people are using the app after previously saying it's only affecting Android - so you really not know that your own site doesn't provide an android app??

jobrum · 18/09/2016 13:19

I've been getting these the last couple of days too. Tried to take a screenshot but apparently I don't know how to do that Blush.

What is really annoying is that a box often refreshes on the ad so it's very difficult to click out of the window to close the tab. Mine comes up as a reward for Three mobile users. Samsung phone, using Chrome. I've only noticed it happening when I start from the Mumsnet home page, not when I click into a previous page on Talk from my recent history.

PlasticGreenDinosaur · 18/09/2016 13:47

This has just happened to me as well. It knows my broadband provider (small company so not likely to be a coincidence).

This has now happened to me three times while using Mumsnet via the chrome browser on my Sony xperia z android phone. Never happened with any other website.

woodlandwanderer · 18/09/2016 14:00

Logged in especially. This has been happening to me all week and I've been blaming my phone.... and my husband -as you do. Blush

Happy to see this thread and realise it's not just me. Sorry guys.

It only happens on MN and it's driving me crazy!
South East, Motorola & Chrome

I have ME and MN is my lifeline Sad

WorraLiberty · 18/09/2016 14:02

This happened to me yesterday too on my android phone, using Chrome.

I had the BT advert one (which is my internet provider).

gleam · 18/09/2016 14:03

This has happened 3 or 4 times to me too.
Midlands, Samsung, native browser.

gleam · 18/09/2016 14:04

Meant to add - doesn't happen on my tablet though, again Samsung and native browser but not logged in.

MermaidofZennor · 18/09/2016 18:12

It only seems to happen on my phone, not my Kindle Fire. Phone is an LG. And they know I'm with BT too. Needs sorting urgently MNHQ.

FairfaxHigh · 18/09/2016 19:47

Aargh - just happened againAngry

CurbsideProphet · 18/09/2016 19:50

So fed up with the fake bt spam/scam pop up. It's bad enough to get fake bt scam phone calls!

MothersGrim · 18/09/2016 19:52

This hasn't happened to me all day and I've been on MN a reasonable amount.

drowninginpinkplastic · 18/09/2016 19:52

I've just had the fake pop up again. Had IP addresses ect. I'm on a Samsung phone.

MothersGrim · 18/09/2016 19:53

Sorry, that sounds almost like I'm disputing everyone! I'm not, just wondered if that was somehow helpful to MN or not, I know they're trying to narrow down what's happening.

TheoriginalLEM · 18/09/2016 19:58

happening tome- fucking annoying.

is it a virus as has happened a few times on Facebook too.

AngieMumsnet · 18/09/2016 20:27

Hi, all your feedback is super helpful.
We are still unable to replicate what you describe.
Please be assured this is being investigated and treated with priority but without being able to replicate it is challenging to pin down the cause.

MothersGrim · 18/09/2016 20:35

Are you thinking it is location based then Angie?!

poisonedbypen · 18/09/2016 20:48

Had in a few times this week. Moto X Play, chrome, mobile site (no app grrr)

AngieMumsnet · 18/09/2016 21:40

At the moment we think it could be location targeted and London is being excluded as the culprit knows MNHQ is based in London and therefore it will be harder for us to find.
I'm on a call with some security specialists and will update this thread to let you know what other information might be useful.
Has anyone in London seen this issue?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 18/09/2016 22:12

Nothing today.

Yesterday was unusable on 3 mobile devices (1 of which was a tablet) Native browser allowed the pop up. CM browser spotted it and blocked it but the blocking results in MN being blocked too. Location Edinburgh.

user12785 · 18/09/2016 22:26

I've had this several times today. HTC, Android, mobile site. "Virgin" pop up. Only 10 miles west of a west London borough.

Now concerned that MN Angie is an imposter and we've all provided "her" with a whole load of info. Hmm

WorraLiberty · 18/09/2016 23:00

I'm in London but when it happened (yesterday) I was in Colchester, Essex.

I'll log in from my phone tomorrow and see if it happens then.
