Basically it doesn't heal up because they invert the foreskin do its skin inside. They use the scrotum to create labia and a small part of the glans to create a clitoris. But you do have to dilate regularly to stop it collapsing.

LifeIsGoodish · 27/08/2016 00:06

That's interesting, Polter, because I do identify as autistic. I'm not officially diagnosed, but I'm pretty sure about myself. Do I have to get someone to validate my feelings before I can claim to be autistic? (And because there is no tone or facial expression in text, I'm musing, genuinely still trying to work things out, not being confrontational.)

I totally get the pp about teenagerhood. For many years I was very unsure about my sense of who I was and how I fitted into being a woman. I thought I had a male brain in a female body.

Telling me "Oh, that means you're trans" and giving me hormones would not have changed the fact that I struggled with social interaction.

AGuyCalledHelen · 27/08/2016 00:08

Sorry Saucery. That was to Special. I posted it before I saw your post.

LifeIsGoodish · 27/08/2016 00:08

Oh BTW I am a woman. A bit odd perhaps, but biologically a woman.

SpecialAgentSpartacusRoars · 27/08/2016 00:09

Oh wow, well I have to have a certain respect for that level of dedication! Dilation is horrible. Plus, that whole phantom limb thing? No wonder some find it so much easier to keep their cock and then abuse us for not wanting it.

How does getting a penis work? I mean, if there is a hysterectomy etc, but I'm not exactly sure how you'd 'create' a working penis.

Saucery · 27/08/2016 00:10

That's ok, AGuy. You are not sparing my delicate sensibilities. I'm just not interested in the Hows. I would rather money was put into the Whys.

SpecialAgentSpartacusRoars · 27/08/2016 00:12

Well I'd like to know, and I asked. You owe no apology Helen.

attacktheblock · 27/08/2016 00:12

Mnhq. please put women first.

FoxtonFoxFace · 27/08/2016 00:13

In total agreement with the thread title. This really is bullshit. Clearly MN is determined to shut down and silence women (and some transwomen) on this subject.

I don't feel that we're being heard and we're not being supported. MRAs and TRAs have won this battle. MN allowed it to happen.
Where can we go to discuss this? Where can we go that's safe?
I'm not registered at Reddit and not sure that I want to be. Surely it's not the only place an open discussion could take place?

AGuyCalledHelen · 27/08/2016 00:13

Saucery Yes me too. But apparently "why?" is transphobic.

SpecialAgentSpartacusRoars · 27/08/2016 00:15

Well there's 4 chan, but that place is reddit on crack, meth and drugs not yet known by science.

FoxtonFoxFace · 27/08/2016 00:17

4chan is the only alternative? Really?

"On the celeb front, why does Eddie Izzard claim to be a 'male lesbian'? Why has no one asked him why he, as a man, gets to appropriate the word lesbian?"

Speaking as a transsexual who has been out and on the trans scene for a quarter of a decade, I can advise you with authority that anyone claiming to be a 'male lesbian' is an autogynephilic male. Most transgender and transsexual males are autogynephillic. I wish trans politic was more accepting of open debate and discussion about this as it benefits everyone; it means trans people can be treated for their actual problems, and it kills 'trans women are women' stone dead, meaning women benefit.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/08/2016 00:23

Where can we go to discuss this? Where can we go that's safe?

TBH for now I think MN is a really good place (and I hope it will remain that way)

If you use the gender critical sub Reddit you will be in a small bubble of other gender critical folk and you can all pat each other on the back about how right you are. Conversely, on MN there is a huge and varied audience and there is always somebody who comes onto the thread to say thanks for letting them know about the issues. An awful lot if people have hit "peak trans" via MN and I think this is a good thing?

venusinscorpio · 27/08/2016 00:25

I agree. People on MN are gradually becoming more aware of the issues. It will be a real shame if that is shut down.

SpecialAgentSpartacusRoars · 27/08/2016 00:25

I don't understand the autogenyplia thing, I wikipedia'd it but maybe I'm not smart enough to get it?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/08/2016 00:32

I don't understand the autogenyplia thing,

In short, men who are sexually aroused by the thought of being a woman.

mirandayardley · 27/08/2016 00:34

SpecialAgentSparticusRoars
This paper by transsexual Dr Anne Lawrence is a great introduction to the topic of autogynephilia.

Becoming What We Love

SpecialAgentSpartacusRoars · 27/08/2016 00:35

Yes, I got that from wikipedia but isn't that exactly the same as me fantasising about being dominant while having a wank?

I haven't slept for other 36 hours btw, I'm not feeling very smart!

SpecialAgentSpartacusRoars · 27/08/2016 00:36

Thanks Miranda!

I want to understand these issues, to me, they matter as I have sons as well as a daughter and I want to be able to explain these things to them when the time comes. It's not as simple as eyerolling with impressionable kids, unfortunately!

FoxtonFoxFace · 27/08/2016 00:36

But MN appears to be just wanting us to shut the fuck up on this subject. Unless our views are aligned with those of the TRAs. If they're not aligned, our posts are labelled 'transphobic' and deleted or banned.
And if we don't STFU voluntarily they (MN) are going to do it for us.

BurstBees · 27/08/2016 00:39

Thank you, miranda. I have been totally ignorant of the term autogynephilic. These threads have not only been eye opening, they're wonderfully educational.

SpecialAgentSpartacusRoars · 27/08/2016 00:42

Yes, I feel very educated! Helen's blog was a real eye opener for me, i did not realise tranwomen were being fed such outrageous lies by professionals. That actually bothers me a lot, and it completely changes my view on Elsa suggesting trans spaces are a feminist issue. They certainly are when medical professionals are setting us against each other!

I find that so, so wrong. I want to stop that too.

This article is fascinating, it's also a really easy read for stupid people, if anyone is thinking it'll be hard to read.

I self identity as a Stupid Person, btw. Always have!

AyeAmarok · 27/08/2016 00:42

Conversely, on MN there is a huge and varied audience and there is always somebody who comes onto the thread to say thanks for letting them know about the issues. An awful lot if people have hit "peak trans" via MN and I think this is a good thing?

Yep definitely. This is me. It wasn't an issue I had paid any attention to before. And when I started to hear about it I wasn't comfortable with what was being said, but struggled to formulate the words to explain why. It was reading posts on MN that helped. And now I can see so clearly the many insidious ways (biological) men are encroaching ever further onto women's rights and spaces. And how it's always, always^ women who need to budge up and make room on our reserves bench while the men get to reign supreme.

I am so upset to see MNHQ making Mumsnet yet another place where women are put at the bottom of the priority list.
