Who exactly has said the LGBT community was a monolithic entity?

I believe it was Empress, who stated "hope they boycott too. The sheer irony of the reference to LGBT kids considering the number of lesbian / bi women on this thread...", which would indicate the belief that because there are lesbian and bi women participating here, that such dissenting opinions were invalid. This would hold true if one were of the opinion that lesbians and bi women collectively and universally agreed upon some of the positions asserted in this comment thread, but is decidedly false when one recognizes that there are any number of dissenting opinions, of which I count myself as one! I hope that's shed some light on the comment.

Unisex toilets - But not the creepy American ones posted here, more like wall to wall cubicles with no peaking space, no qualms. Don't care.

However, as bathrooms stay as they are, i will always insist on safety for my DC, particularly when DD goes through puberty.

SpecialAgentSpartacusRoars · 26/08/2016 19:38

Peeking

Freudian slip< Grin

SpecialAgentSpartacusRoars · 26/08/2016 19:40

The dissenting viewpoints are invalid. That's my viewpoint. I don't even listen to the very few 'lesbians' who buy into this self hating shit. I pity them, yes.

I ignore transwomen's opinions on female sexuality. And mens.

Spartacus · 26/08/2016 19:42

But, QV, that makes the acronym for Female Opinion On Female Sexuality... Well, you don't need me to join the dots for you!

The irony of Female Opinion On Female Sexuality having a transphobic acronym!

Lumidingo · 26/08/2016 19:42

Jesus that is horrific. What 12 year old is confident of anything, let alone something this complex.

Most children, according to current research. Here's an article that goes into detail on the issue, particularly with regards to the distinction between children displaying cross-gender behaviour, and children who are recognized to be legitimately transgender. www.slate.com/blogs/outward/2016/01/14/what_alarmist_articles_about_transgender_children_get_wrong.html

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 26/08/2016 19:43

My point wasn't that the LBGT community was a monolithic entity. Far from it.

My point is that the acronym itself is nonsense. If you read back through the thread it will be clear that lesbian & bi women's rights are completely different from trans rights. Have a look.

venusinscorpio · 26/08/2016 19:44

Not really lumidingo. It's a bit of a stretch to say that Empress thinks that all LGBT people think exactly the same.

HornyTortoise · 26/08/2016 19:45

MOOFS is an amazing acronym, especially given the longer meaning Grin

Seriously though, if people just read the first page of the spartacus thread, I can see how it could come across as offensive. However, that thread comes off the back of a number of HUGE discussion threads and was only meant to be a 'list' of members willing to be banned for a variety of well thought out posts on the subject. It has now evolved into most people giving more detail than 'a woman does not have a penis' statements though, but the first few pages do seem a bit cultlike. But context is everything. That was never meant to be a 'discussion'...

Lumidingo · 26/08/2016 19:47

The dissenting viewpoints are invalid. That's my viewpoint. I don't even listen to the very few 'lesbians' who buy into this self hating shit. I pity them, yes.

Well, you're entitled to your opinions, but unfortunately (and somewhat ironically) your assertion as to the validity of her viewpoint is, in itself, invalid, because you're not in a position to arbitrate on the validity of another woman's sexual orientation based on your own personal beliefs. Her opinions on the matter are equally as valid as yours. That's what opinions are.

HornyTortoise · 26/08/2016 19:48

I already stated I don't particularly give a crap about the random 'research' links and copy and pasted statements, but thanks for the effort.

However, I will reply in the same manner you are doing to views on this thread and say..

www.theguardian.com/science/occams-corner/2013/sep/17/scientific-studies-wrong
Most scientific studies are wrong, and they are wrong because scientists are interested in funding and careers rather than truth.

SpecialAgentSpartacusRoars · 26/08/2016 19:49

Weeping at FOOFs. Weeping

I'm so posting that in my online support group Grin I just know of at least three women who will be changing their FB sexuality status, to the bewilderment of their friends and family...

Weeping.

Lumidingo · 26/08/2016 19:49

Not really lumidingo. It's a bit of a stretch to say that Empress thinks that all LGBT people think exactly the same.

Perhaps it is. I don't presume to put words in her mouth, that was just my interpretation. It seems reasonable to me!

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 26/08/2016 19:49

Has anyone noticed that the thread is now completely focused on Lumidingo? Merailing anyone?

HornyTortoise · 26/08/2016 19:50

And also to point out that current research at one point told us babies were safer sleeping on their fronts. A few years later this changed to sleeping on fronts causes SIDS.

Lumidingo · 26/08/2016 19:50

I already stated I don't particularly give a crap about the random 'research' links and copy and pasted statements, but thanks for the effort.

You're welcome!

SpecialAgentSpartacusRoars · 26/08/2016 19:51

Nah, Lum, they're not because I'm not insisting on corrective rape. If she's merely saying you can be lesbian and date a transwoman, then whatever. Don't agree, her opinion, etc, etc.

If she is talking cotton ceiling then legally, yes, I'm right that she's invalid, and always will be, because it will simply never be The Law to have sex with people who repulse you.

I can't believe I have to explain why that's not an opinion. Confused

venusinscorpio · 26/08/2016 19:52

Yes, you're right Empress. Will desist!

TequilaBlockingBird · 26/08/2016 19:53

“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, “it means what I choose it to mean – neither more nor less.”

HornyTortoise · 26/08/2016 19:53

I want to log onto FB just to change my sexuality to FOOFS. I may have to drop my husband to do so, but its worth it to have that acronym alone Grin

SpecialAgentSpartacusRoars · 26/08/2016 19:53

I suspect ignoring will be deigned 'transphobic.'

I'm so far into being 'transphobic' that any sane person is on my side, so I'm winning Grin

Lumidingo · 26/08/2016 19:54

Nah, Lum, they're not because I'm not insisting on corrective rape. If she's merely saying you can be lesbian and date a transwoman, then whatever. Don't agree, her opinion, etc, etc.

She's not insisting on corrective rape. That's a rather disingenuous assertion of her position. Did you watch the video?

Who was it that was saying something about how I was ignoring other people's contributions, again?

SpecialAgentSpartacusRoars · 26/08/2016 19:55

FOOFS sounds like one of those joke acronyms, like Hermione and SPEW.

OscarDeLaYenta · 26/08/2016 19:55

Hi Helen!!

Just don't feed it. Just don't.
