It's in Active but not Trending.

DanaBarrett · 25/08/2016 22:20

I believe that everyone has the right to wear what ever they choose. So long as they don't impinge on the rights of others to do the same.

I am Spartacus.

IrenetheQuaint · 25/08/2016 22:22

I'm Irene.

If someone chooses to have hormones and surgery and identify as the other sex then I would use the pronoun they prefer. It's only polite.

However if a bloke with a penis sticks on a dress and calls himself a female name then he is a bloke wearing a dress. I'm not inclined to call such people 'she'.

And I don't support giving confused teenagers hormones that will change their bodies for ever.

EttaJ · 25/08/2016 22:22

I am Etta

Penis is male.
Female is a biological reality, not an identity.
Trans women are men.
I am not 'cis'.
I will not sit down, and I will not shut up.

Go OP GO!!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I am meddie. I refuse to say the emperor is wearing clothes when they blatantly aren't.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 25/08/2016 22:25

And totally what Stephanie said

Born in the wrong body' was invented by a bunch of powerful cross-dressing men to gain social acceptance for their hobby. To 'prove' the 'innate gender identity' theory you need children, and as young as possible. We are collectively telling children a massive lie, that they can choose their sex, and it is causing untold damage. We are willing to sterilise children and medicalise them for life in support of a political theory which has no basis in science or reality. Along the way we have erased women's language, women's rights, female biology and the word 'woman' itself. I refuse to take part.

I say again that I am NormaSparticusFletcher

MollHackabout · 25/08/2016 22:25

I am Moll Spartacus.

To sum up why, I'll just copy some of what I posted on the other thread for those who haven't read it or don't know about DD:

Fuck being silenced by people who haven't received death threats for politely pointing out the silliness of it all on social media as I - and my DD - have done. That'd be the same DD who, as a 16 year old lesbian, founded her school's first LGBT society which did wonderful work supporting teenagers trying to work out who they were, often in the face of terrible judgement and prejudice at home. The same DD who was forced to close down the society she was so proud of, and delete her Twitter account, after receiving those death threats and being horrendously bullied by TAs for being 'transphobic' - because she rejected the notion that all 'cis' women are scum and she had the guts to challenge it. She's now rejected all forms of activism and has distanced herself from lesbian groups at uni out of fear and has become very isolated. This is the message that's being sent to our daughters. Perhaps MNHQ would like to consider that for a second.
_

I too will always refuse to call a be-penised person her/she/they/xi/xey/whatever. Because there's already a name for what people like that are, and it's male. So he/him it is. And do you know what, if I get banned, so be it.

But MNHQ, know this: if I were to be banned, my DD, who had already suffered horribly for standing up for herself and others for being female/gay (and oh my god I thought those days were over) will once again be sent a very clear message, as will many, many other young girls. And that message is, men rule the world. Men are better women than women are. Know that in all things, a penis will always be better and more deserving of respect than a vagina. That some will always be more equal than others.

THAT is the message you're sending, very loudly and clearly, to us - and, more chilling still, to our daughters.

Every time a Twitter user threatens to 'cave in' a teenage girl's head for objecting to the term 'cis scum', every time one of our gay teenage daughters is told she must allow a penis inside her or she's a TERF bitch who deserves to die, you're right behind it.

I wonder if anyone at HQ stops and thinks for a second about the ramifications of their misogynistic, TA appeasing stance. I fucking wonder.

So, yeah, Spartacus times a million. For us, and for our daughters.

Scorbus · 25/08/2016 22:26

I am Scorbus.

I worry about the impact of imposing gender constructs on young people within education.

Biological sex cannot be changed and gender is a tool of oppression. Women have gained so much and this is the backlash against those gains, gender oppression is stripping away those hard won gains under the guise of being tolerant and accepting.

I reject that.

I am Spartacus.

Iggi999 · 25/08/2016 22:27

I am Iggi.

I reject "gender".

RhinestoneCowgirl · 25/08/2016 22:28

I'm Rhinestone, I don't have anything as articulate to add as previous posters but have nodded in agreement to so many posts.

ToffeeForEveryone · 25/08/2016 22:29

I am Spartacus.

Sex is a biological fact that cannot be altered by surgery.
Stating a fact is not phobic, bigoted or hateful.

People should be allowed to live in any way they choose, until the point they are harming others.

No one should be subject to abuse due to how they present themselves to the world.
It may be impolite to use a biologically accurate pronoun when the subject would rather another word is used, but is not bigoted.
No one has the right to censor my right to state facts.

Cis is a fabricated term frequently used pejoratively as hate speech. It is offensive.

I am not cis. I am a woman.

Waltermittythesequel · 25/08/2016 22:29

Nothing from HQ?

Bigbiscuits · 25/08/2016 22:29

I am Bigbiscuits

Transwoman are men

EddieStobbart · 25/08/2016 22:29

I am Eddie.

I respect the right of anyone to live as they wish but gender is restrictive, repressive bullshit. A person cannot change sex but they can choose to reject societal pressure to conform to made-up roles, that is the path that is truly progressive and one I support fully.

hunkermunker · 25/08/2016 22:30

I refuse to play along with the make-believe that men can become women and women can become men.

I will defend the right of any person to wear dresses and lipstick, or to not wear dresses and lipstick, to know how rebuild an engine or strip a gun or put the bin out or iron a shirt or push a pram...etc, etc.

But I will not participate in the mass delusion of budging up to make room for anyone who fancies calling themselves a woman.

It. Isn't. That. Easy. And you don't get to opt into womanhood, without going through any kind of girlhood and all that brings, and then say that your penis is female and everyone should be attracted to it, regardless of their sexuality.

Up with this, I will not put.

I am Spartacus.

BarryMerry · 25/08/2016 22:32

Barry Spartacus here

THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A FEMALE PENIS!

Woman = adult female human

Man = adult male human

Female = in the human dimorphic reproductive system, of the sex which has the potential to produce eggs and gestate the next generation.

Male = of the sex which can potentially produce sperm to fertilise the eggs.

Females are subjugated and oppressed on the basis of perceived reproductive capability. Gender is the mechanism by which said oppression happens... it is a violently imposed structural hierarchy, it is not an identity or a feeling or a 57 flavours Tumblr profile drop menu.

Happy to support trans rights... but they are on a completely different axis to women's rights. Anything else is a phallocentric total betrayal to women and lesbians.

PinkyOfPie · 25/08/2016 22:32

I am Spartacus

A man with a or is cannot be a woman, no matter what they do with their bodies

The person called Nate who appropriated Ada Wells's name is a man

Caitlin Jenner is a man

Davinia Ayers is a man

Danielle Muscato is a man

Stephoknee Wolscht is a man and an autogenophile

Am person with a vagina is a woman and more of a woman than a transwoman

PinkyOfPie · 25/08/2016 22:32

*with a penis, not 'with a or is' Blush

YouWhatYouWhatYouWhat · 25/08/2016 22:33

You what? I'm Spartacus!

I'd like to thank all MN posters who have put into words what I can't express myself, on this issue and on many others.

Transmen are transmen - not men.
Transwomen are transwomen - not women.
I am not cis, I am a woman.
There is no such thing as a female penis.

DeathAnTaxes · 25/08/2016 22:35

I think MN, that you have to accept that you can be 'PC' the way you think you should be because the Guardian told you so or you can think for yourselves and see that your demographic (the ones you should be pandering to) the ones your advertisers want you to pander to think this a load of literal balls.

Men have penises.

Women do not have penises ever.

Yours truly,
Deathantaxes

CoteDAzur · 25/08/2016 22:36

I am Spartacus.

These are dictionary definitions:
Woman = Adult human Female.
.... Female = Of the sex that can bear young or make eggs.
Man = Adult human Male.
.... Male = Of the sex that can make sperm.

This is from a non-fiction book about the DNA:
At a purely biological, and especially an anatomical level, men and women are different. One of the most fundamental differences is in the reproductive organs. Women have ovaries, men have testicles. Women have a vagina and a uterus, men have a penis.

Didactylos · 25/08/2016 22:38

I am Didactylos
sex is a material reality and gender is socially imposed bullshit

Anna Lee is a man. I hope he some day understands the presumption of trying to stand as an elected representative for a group which does not include him in biology, socialisation or shared experience
Ada Wells is a man. I hope this individual gets help with their racist, misogynistic and homophobic issues before seeking elected office again
Paris Lees is a man and can enjoy being catcalled as much as he wants without this somehow being extrapolated to being a female experience
Alex Drummond is a man, I hope he understands he can widen the bandwidth of being a man without involving women in it
Danielle Muscato is a man who probably holds a record for 'most desultory effort at transition but I hope he has a successful life
Buck Angel is a woman who can work in the adult film industry showcasing their trans status if that is what they want to do

I hope that all the individuals concerned have happy and successful lives, and are treated fairly by society as regards jobs, healthcare, finances, housing and freedom and I hope that all of them feel comfortable in their bodies and identities
But I cannot accept being gaslighted

OscarDeLaYenta · 25/08/2016 22:39

Hey Death - thanks again for starting a very important first thread.

THIS IS BULLSHIT.

OP posts:
shins · 25/08/2016 22:39

I am shins.

I have no problem with trans people and and don't mind how anyone dresses or presents themselves. I don't want anyone to be bullied or discriminated against.

But men can't get pregnant and women don't have penises. I am a woman because of this woman's body I have lived in for 40-odd years and all the times we've had together, not my fondness for lipstick. Same with my daughter. My husband and sons are men because they have penises and testosterone, not because of their love of football and war movies. Gender is socially constructed bollocks and should be challenged at every turn. That was what my feminist education taught me and it's served me well. However, biology is real and the basis of women's oppression. Ignoring that drags our rights back a century.

Thanks Miranda, I've admired your writing for a long time.
