"We don't think that this thread is disablist, it is a valid discussion that we don't think should be shut down. "

yet it has obviously been reported.
cause hurt and upset

Message from MNHQ: Thanks so much for all the reports about this.

Although there has been some interesting debate and discussion, we do agree that the OP and some of what ensues is disablist, so we have decided to delete.

how can these be interesting debates??
\not long ago mn hq said that they were going to be quicker dealing with this stuff
what happened??

Hazey please don't go, we often meet up on the same threads and I would miss you

There must be some fundamental miscommunication at the heart of this. that we're missing.

'This is my child' is so good. MNHQ are usually so good.

I can't figure out what's gone so wrong here Hmm Sad

Jasonandyawegunorts · 20/08/2016 10:57

The basics of the problem are that they don't see the problem. I suspect that deliberate because controversial threads get more page views than none-controversial ones. Who cares if a small minority are offended by prejudicial post, everyone on the thread is contributing to the money.

It's not hate speech and discrimination, it's enterprise culture!

Until Mumsnet admit that what they are currently doing isn't working and there is a massive problem with the site, nothing is going to work.

But as shown, they don't see a problem with belittling a certain group of disabilities.

It's just genuinely depressing because it's so reflective of RL.

There's always a reason they can't do something about it: it's the weekend, it's late, they don't have the higher up staff in, it's the holidays, they really need to have a good, hard think about it all, they really are reading our concerns and trying to come up with something. If we start another thread they'll have another look at things. Ad infinitum.

Tbh, I've had enough of it. I'm going to stick with the musketeers tavern thread and ignore any inflammatory stuff. It's just too depressing.

I'm sad that steady, reliable posters like fanjo and hazey feel so unsupported that they want to leave.

BeyondLovesSweetDee · 20/08/2016 11:14

Pondering aloud - as of course I don't want mn to crash - but if people were to respond to dodgy posts by 'spamming' them with meme responses, what effect would it have on the loading time of said thread?

But HQ want us to 'educate' the masses, don't they?

Educating by meme is okay, isn't it?

BeyondLovesSweetDee · 20/08/2016 11:22

I'm not talking about any old thread being silenced - I'm more elaborating on the idea upthread of those of us who want a stock response to a thread to c&p one. Would it negatively affect loading times if we did it with a picture rather than a c&p post?

Jasonandyawegunorts · 20/08/2016 11:23

All that's going to do is get the Thread noticed and our posts deleted.

BeyondLovesSweetDee · 20/08/2016 11:24

To be clear - I want to know if it is possible to do this without affecting loading time, not as some sort of guerilla warfare!

SpecialAgentFreyPie · 20/08/2016 11:26

I still don't understand why ASC and ADHD are fair game. Patronising/sneery comments about being 'mildly anxious' and 'bucking up' are not tolerated. That's an invisible disability too. So what, precisely, is the difference?

I'm just bewildered. Surely if it were about controversial page clicks it wouldn't be just such a specific area that's fair game for bigots?

With the meme spamming thing, I think you can only post six pictures a day.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 20/08/2016 11:30

So what, precisely, is the difference?

MNHQ answered this didn't they. They consider dismissing, downplaying and belittling about ASD and ADHD to be valid questions on the "Diagnostic process.".

It's not diagnosed in infancy after all.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 20/08/2016 11:34

It's right up there in RebeccaMumsnet post.

The thread we had issue with, which was downplaying ASD, saying anyone could have the symptoms and 50 years ago we just got on with it and so on was about the Diagnostic process.

I quote from MNHQ representatives own post
diagnostic process that is what the thread was about

JacobFryesTopHatLackey · 20/08/2016 11:36

Maybe we could make a permanent thread home for SN parents away from all the fuckery? That way the support is still there without all the other crap.

Just5minswithDacre · 20/08/2016 11:36

With the meme spamming thing, I think you can only post six pictures a day.

There is also the 'pithy one liner' route.

I don't think it actually IS spamming, TBH.

If the onus is on us to "educate", I really CBA to craft paragraphs of prose any more. Bullet points will do the job.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 20/08/2016 11:36

exactly which bit was about the diagnostic proccess hasn't been answered yet.

SpecialAgentFreyPie · 20/08/2016 11:36

Well that's just ridiculous. Schizophrenia or Bipolar often aren't diagnosed until mid twenties but no one would argue they're not a disability! Angry

Flowers For all the posters who have been (justifiably) hurt by this bull.

SpecialAgentFreyPie · 20/08/2016 11:39

Just I certainly don't disagree. The amount of people in the REAL world, let alone the online world, who expect me to not only tell them personal things about my DS1's health, but also almost seem to make a cruel argument for 'and why should I tolerate like him?' breaks my heart. I don't 'do' educating anymore. Those who want to learn so they can interact and get to know my child are not the same as busybodies who want to put him down.

BeyondLovesSweetDee · 20/08/2016 11:40

Ah see, I '...'ed spamming to show that it wouldn't actually be spamming, but that it could look that way from outside if a load of us had a stock response :)

"Mumsnet needs to welcome, supports and encourage people with disabilities and additional needs to use this site. This means that posts or posters speculating or challenging the validity of medical, mental health, neurological or other similar conditions and diagnoses should not be tolerated. I would ask that posters consider the impact of their posts on people living with such conditions and diagnoses before posting."

Yes to this as a standard response.
But the threads and posts need to be deleted too.
