Samcro · 16/08/2016 15:21

one today for instance and mn hq post
"We don't think that this thread is disablist, it is a valid discussion that we don't think should be shut down. "

yet it has obviously been reported.
cause hurt and upset
how is that making life easier(or better) for the sn community`?

or this message from mn hq
That CBeebies is just far too PC
Thread deleted
Message from MNHQ: Thanks so much for all the reports about this.

Although there has been some interesting debate and discussion, we do agree that the OP and some of what ensues is disablist, so we have decided to delete.

how can these be interesting debates??
\not long ago mn hq said that they were going to be quicker dealing with this stuff
what happened??

Oh yes that was fun Polter Grin You can get up quite an emoji speed when you get going, can't you?

Samcro · 20/08/2016 11:45

the not diagnosed in infancy stuff is bollocks
my dd has 2 friends.(well she has more than that lol) who were both nt
one had a terrible accident as a toddler......now severely disabled and dependant on others for all care.
the other had a operation that went terribly wrong as a teen and now is pretty much locked in....
so as they weren't dxed in infancy does that mean they aren't as disabled as my dd who was??
of course it doesn't .....but by the way mn hq were talking it does.

I like the Hmm idea.

Just5minswithDacre · 20/08/2016 11:56

This is the parallel discussion about the the thread Polter mentioned;

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/the_night_watch/2575631-This-is-a-bunfight-with-vulnerable-posters

BeyondLovesSweetDee · 20/08/2016 11:57

'Chinny reckon' pops up a lot too.

I think a stock response though could help with the education wanted by mnhq no comment but without posters getting emotionally invested in it as we tend to when writing from our own situations. Iyswim?

SpecialAgentFreyPie · 20/08/2016 11:58

Before I click, how high should I expect my blood pressure to rise?

Bonus points if the term 'SN Brigade' comes up.

Just5minswithDacre · 20/08/2016 12:00

We've -what's the word? - brain whatsited quite a few on this thread beyond.

AliceInUnderpants · 20/08/2016 12:00

MS isn't diagnosed (in the vast majority of cases, I'm open to hearing in some it may be) in infancy, is MS not a disability? Should people with MS just crack on with things, stop struggling to communicate, and learn to be as mobile as everyone else? They're just not trying hard enough are they?
How about war veterans who've lost limbs? Not disabled by it at all? Should just suck it up and get a job and be a functioning member of society - especially the ones who fake PTSD just so they don't have to work.
And the parents who have fought to convince doctors to investigate their children's health and are diagnosed with cancer? Should have just left them and not bothered - after all, all children can get tired and develop eating and mobility issues can't they?

Just5minswithDacre · 20/08/2016 12:02

That one wasn't SN Special, it was an alcoholic and someone with MH problems getting into a horrible spat. But in any case that's a load of Mners discussing elsewhere how to stop it, not the thread itself.

PigPigTrotters · 20/08/2016 12:35

Well how bloody depressing that this is still going on and MNHQ have still not given an adequate response Hmm.

I feel like starting an AIBU thread to remind people that each and every one of us is one accident or illness away from being disabled, and any one of us could have a child with autism or ADHD, but it would end up in the same shitiness where no doubt comments would be left standing again.

I'm not looking at the mobility scooter one as that might just tip me over the edge tbh as dsis has MS (she's skinny unlike me) and can only get about on a scooter. She's used one since she was late 30's so I suppose she'd be fair game too because whilst she's on the scooter you can't see her legs don't work and she doesn't have enough strength in her arms anymore to manage with crutches like she used to.

BeyondLovesSweetDee · 20/08/2016 17:42

The "aibu to hire a scooter" one is fine, it was comments in the childhood obesity thread in chat that I was talking about

Jasonandyawegunorts · 20/08/2016 18:24

What Mumsnet doesn't seem to realise is that when text is submitted to the site, Due to the terms of use, they claim the right to the work.
Hate speech left unchallenged makes them liable as the choice to leave it up falls on them.

Do I have this right?

Jasonandyawegunorts · 20/08/2016 18:26

Should i start a thread in legal matters asking about this?

Newes · 20/08/2016 20:49

That's what they always say when asked why potentially libellous posts are deleted.

Samcro · 20/08/2016 23:15

i would love some one to look into the legal side of things. I think mn hq might be breaking the law, as they are not making this site accessible to people with disabilities.(by leaving up disablist posts)

OP posts:
UnfuckingLikely101 · 20/08/2016 23:17

I have read this thread from start to finish over the last few hours and unfortunately the arguments/debates within it have proved to be the perfect distraction for mnhq not to address the OP.

This thread was created to address mnhqs approach to Disabilism in all its forms, yet it has been completely railroaded by individual arguments and experiences. Mnhq is obviously going to find it easier to ignore a thread questioning their actions when it has been filled with several 100 other posts not directly addressing their policies.

I should imagine that MNHQ feels that it does not need to reply to the OP because subsequent posters have made such a mess of this thread it has been easy to ignore the EXTREMELEY important subject of Disabilism on MN (In all its forms) and wait until the next time it comes around.

Maybe next time a Poster starts a thread like this it would be more prudent to focus on bringing MNHQ to account for their actions/non action rather than arguing amongst yourselves? Especially when all of the posters seem to agree with one another Confused rather than working each other up and ending up leaving the forum when MNHQ hasn't been brought to task anyway.

Samcro · 20/08/2016 23:29

UnfuckingLikely101 I started this thread(but don't own it) and whilst in a way I agree with you.
people have been very hurt and upset about MN HQ stand on Autism. so any thread like this......is going to become a bit about that, I get that.
I have a adult child with cp. and have to admit that I am getting a bit tired at CP being used on thread(see the deaf one)
I can't talk about Autism as I know nothing, but I understand why this thread was hi jacked.
mn hq should really just stop disablim on mn.then threads like this would not exist.
they don't. they make excuse about being short staffed,,,,,they will look at it ....at some point in the future, but nothing changes.
we have had countless threads about wheelchairs on buses.....ffs what kind of person thinks that a person in a wheelchair should be able to access the one space on the bus?? yet these threads stand, they are disablist.
mn hq need to accept that they have to act and delete disblsim.

OP posts:
UnfuckingLikely101 · 20/08/2016 23:53

Hey Samcro, yes I understand that people who have been exposed to unforgivable discrimination are rightly upset by what has been said on a countless threads and emotions can run very high.

However a thread such as this needs to be focused on MNHQ providing a clear answer rather than dissolving into debate. Unfortunately I feel that unless their reputation is directly at risk then they will not respond in any constructive way.. And they won't do so if they can sit back and watch other users argue amongst themselves.

Like many others I am confused why Disabilism seems to be such an obstacle for MNHQ when other -isms are moderated more competently

Samcro · 20/08/2016 23:57

well good luck
i assume you will now start one. and no on will de rail......

No I'm not going to start one, and I have no doubt that if I did it would be de railed anyway! I am just adding my support to you and the others who have expressed their disklike at the MNHQ has handled Disabilism.. And also added why I don't think MNHQ will be providing any constructive conversation to this thread.

Other than their typical placations.

IPityThePontipines · 21/08/2016 02:24

Just delurking to give my support to this as a deletion message:

"Mumsnet needs to welcome, supports and encourage people with disabilities and additional needs to use this site. This means that posts or posters speculating or challenging the validity of medical, mental health, neurological or other similar conditions and diagnoses should not be tolerated. I would ask that posters consider the impact of their posts on people living with such conditions and diagnoses before posting."

Jasonandyawegunorts · 21/08/2016 02:35

There is a current thread where many posters find jokes about hearing impairments are funny and harmless.

Can you please PM me a link to this so i can get a screen shot.
