I have reported this thread a number of times and it has been up for hours - please can you delete it now! This is ridiculous

It does make me feel sad as the naive part of me would like to think it's 2016 thus no-one gives a shit what colour you are. But what I've found is actually the real-time presentation of views disgusted at my colour.

Duchess what therefore do we do? I'd be surprised if anyone from HQ came back to answer our questions! It might get me deleted and banned but I'll say it: MUMSNET IS RACIST.

NeedAScarf That's the other issue - it'd be fine if HQ just admitted they'd fucked up and were going to take steps to rectify it. But at this time, in fact all the time, they're constantly playing at arse covering!

I think MNHQ are clearly dismissive of the effects of such vile words on people - never in my 30 odd years on this planet have I been exposed to such racism.

I wouldn't go as far and say MNHQ are racist but they are seriously lacking in consideration and respect for the minorities!

But not only that their reporting system is wholly inadequate if they rely on inexperience moderators making judgement calls - these posts should never have been allowed to stand because of a subjective view of a moderator - the minute a post is reported as racist, it should be locked, hidden from view and allow a proper review.... not leave it standing for hours!

If that is not feasible then they need to look at ways to protect their posters, lock down the rampant proliferation of trolls, look at a system of reviewing earlier posts before allowing free reign - gah just fucking do something instead of the pathletic apologies after the fact

Op thank you so much for this thread. The level of Islamaphobia on MN is shocking. When I have contacted MN they have not been in the least bit bothered. I now avoid threads about the unfortunately more and more frequent terrorist attacks, even though I am very worried about the current security situation, because I am sure there will be Islamaphobic comments.

UmbongoUnchained · 22/07/2016 23:07

I manage to stay away from the racist posts somehow. Thankfully!! Shame it can't be like that in real life though.

Maybe we should have a thread going like the SN one

RedHareWithBlondeHair · 22/07/2016 23:14

I've just started a thread in AIBU asking why this sort of shit is acceptable. :/ who the fuck knows. HQ imho don't give a shit - ethnic minorities were never and are not their target group for this site.

I'm happy to have frank discussions about race and so forth but I won't countenance pure racism couched as someone's 'discussion'.

WidowWadman · 22/07/2016 23:18

It certainly has got worse over the past few months, thinking of the neverending Cologne threads.

CrazyDuchess · 22/07/2016 23:22

Thank you for the support (I've had a PM too)

I am fully aware every day, where I live me and my daughter are minorities..... this absolutely should not be the case on an anonymous forum - but I feel more of a minority here than I do walking around my town.

The law does not allow a person to stand in my face and say some of the things this and other posters have spewed - zero tolerance.

Just because it's an anonymous for mum does not give MNHQ a free pass to sweep it under the carpet.

Bestthingever the extremist terrorism is just that - extreme. It's absolutely nothing to do with Islam, it's a few twisted individuals proclaiming their actions in then name of Islam - religious leaders have condemned their actions. And if we're were to look back in history, people have committed atrocious acts in the name of Christianity, Hinduism, scientology, for women blah blah.

I am all for education on this site, but not at the expense of other posters. You are supposed to pride yourself in your community - so MNHQ you have to look after all of us!

Maybe Umbongo

I just don't know really - I am just super pissed off with MNHQ and expect a better response than what has been provided to date! They need to do something

Have to agree with this. I remember a post a while back, from a faux naive poster, claiming she jumped out of her skin when a woman in hijab stood next to her at a bus stop. How do MNHQ think hijab-wearing mumsnetters might feel reading that? Welcome?
I'm fed up with it. Really fed up with it.

CrazyDuchess · 23/07/2016 02:16

I certainly do not feel welcome - and MNHQ as moderators have a duty to protect us from hate speech!

OP posts:
RebeccaMumsnet · 24/07/2016 10:39

Morning all,

We do have a new system in place where reports with words such as 'racist' in them will go into a priority folder that is looked at first. We hope this will help us to get to these cases faster.

We did drop the ball on this one and we are sorry. The last thing we want is for you to feel as though we are disinterested or blasé about reports on hate speech.

We will try harder to address issues surrounding racist comments.
Apologies again.

There is a horribly islamophobic thread up at the moment. I reported it, but according to mumsnet it is a healthy discussion about religion. It is not, it is just another form of racist to me mind. It is extremely distressing to see these nasty, nasty people have a forum to get acquainted and tell each other how right they are.

OlennasWimple · 24/07/2016 11:01

I think the Serena thread was left up by a newbie moderator who didn't want to censure discussion, not for the "educating others" reason

I reported a post the other day that said something like "learning disability / ", and got a message from MNHQ that they were leaving it up for educational purposes. When I went back to the thread, no-one had picked up on it, so no educating had gone on. I considered challenging it on the thread myself, but the thread was dying out and I thought better to let it lie. Sad

kirinm · 24/07/2016 11:07

Just another person adding to this thread to say that I too am disturbed by the content of posts allowed to stand on threads including the refugee ones.

The amount of vitriol aimed at minorities has been shocking to see and read.

CrazyDuchess · 15/09/2016 18:06

MNHQ - you promised to do better.

I can direct you to some great equalities and diversity training because I am sorry but you guys are severely lacking in understanding and compassion.

MNHQ - just 2 months ago you promised to do better!

I can direct you to some great educational tools for diversity and equality training because clearly MNHQ and it's moderators are lacking in understanding and compassion Angry
