Banning the term "cis"

OlennasWimple · 06/07/2016 23:36

Apologies if this had already been done, but can MNHQ consider banning the term "cis", given how horrifically offensive so many users of MN find it?

I don't think I need to set out the background and reasoning to this request (but can do so if it would help!)

I agree completely with Maryz. I think telling a child that they can be whatever they "feel" like is a monstrous lie, and part of the me me me culture that we have now. Children and teenagers are changing all the time, what one feels at 14 is not normally what one feels at 20, or even at 16. Now people take utterly seriously anything a young person says in relation to a gender"identity" , in a way they don't in relation to say, weight. A man in a dress is not a woman. A man who "feels like a woman" (whatever that means) is not a woman. A castrated man is not a woman. A fully intact man with a mahoosive beard is not a woman either, in spite of what some men on twitter want us to believe. Sometimes I think genderqueer bollocks is just this generations punk rock, but without the music. Attention seeking nonsense that is taken all too seriously. But then I think about the erasing of any places for women or girls to be without people with penises, not in sport, not in changing rooms, not in loos, and it makes me really angry.

venusinscorpio · 08/07/2016 19:18

Totally agree, SirVix.

Asprilla11 · 08/07/2016 19:33

For a man who has only been on MN for a short time, this thread is very educational, thank you.

I am currently unemployed due to ill health, but this thread has also given me an idea for future work; I will start a company that designs clothes especially for trans people! Smile

:o at "more susceptible to prostate cancer".

Infinitely more, since you need to have a prostate in the first place in order to get it.

Trills · 08/07/2016 19:42

VestalVirgin have you read the Earth's Children series (starting with Clan of the Cave Bear)?

In that the prehistoric society pretty much think that women are magic and they sometimes make babies, but Ayla (our protagonist, who is cleverer than everyone, obviously) works out that sex makes babies, and so a specific man is involved in the making of each individual baby, and inadvertently invents the patriarchy.

GarlicStake · 08/07/2016 20:11

Oh, good, can someone please go back in fictional time and give Ayla a fatal blow to the head?

Trills - thank you for correcting my medical error - and for reminding me about the fabulous Clan of the Cave Bear!

I read those books too. Smile

"I mean, in biology, not just humans, there are male and female reproductive organs, and if we call all women's bodies female sexed, then you would need another word to describe a female body, uterus, vulva, chromosomes etc etc."

What on God's green Earth are you talking about? Confused

Women are female and they have XX chromosomes in their female bodies that include parts such as uterus, vulva etc.

What seems to be the problem?

I wonder what happened to Sorena. Am a bit disappointed that she wanted to buy some unicorn milk, but didn't reply to my explanation of the origins of patriarchy.

I get that unicorn milk is magic and sparkly and intriguing, but ... I don't know. It's a bit disappointing. Hmm

blinkowl · 09/07/2016 11:04

Prize to Gertrude for the best drunk writing ever! Sounded exactly like a drink person in my mind as I read it.

Hope you've escaped the hangover!

blinkowl · 09/07/2016 11:05

drunk person not drink person. And I have no excuse

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 09/07/2016 11:06

Sorena is 1/2 the way towards getting it. She just has lots of snowflake friends and doesn't want to hurt their feelings (admirable) and is in the midst of cognitive dissonance where she's trying to square the circle. I think lots of us have been there. I think we did plant some seeds.

ThreadandInk · 09/07/2016 11:20

MN have deleted the other thread. I have started a new thread about the shutting down of female voices.

Louw1988 · 09/07/2016 11:25

I replied to a thread sticking up for transgender people and MY post got deleted despite people posting very disrespect things about men to female transgender! I gave up in the end, clearly those people were never going to accept it so what's the point discussing it with them to then get slaughtered yourself?

ThreadandInk · 09/07/2016 11:26

Exactly. We should be able to debate this.

Louw1988 · 09/07/2016 11:30

Yes but it wasn't a debate was it, it was people shouting me down and being very nasty not actually listening to the other side. That's not a debate!
