Offensive nicknames

I'm going to be flamed, I know!

I get that people just want to avoid being quoted in the Mail but - sigh - do we really have to have so many names with fuck, cunt, twat in them?

I'm not anti swearing but I've just had it drummed into me that these words are offensive. I don't mind, for instance, 'DP was 4 hours late and I am so fucked off, AIBU to rhink he's a twat?' I wouldn't personally but you know, free speech and all.

But that's very different to just having them there. I've just replied to another poster who's username is nothing but swear words and three of the sort generally considered to be most offensive.

I don't know; I just don't like it - does anyone feel the same as me? Or am I being cats-bum-mouthed?

Who decides if "arse" is worse than "cunt" or "twat"?

I mean really we were probably all taught that swears are bad as kids but as adults we know better.

This seems such an odd problem to have. I'd understand disliking the words and not wanting them used (and maybe NM is a better fit for people who don't like swearing) but to just not want them in nicknames? Most people probably skim nicknames anyway.

Rebecca I'd like to nominate all the ones with mummy, user and several dozen numbers as grotesque

As would I.

Especially the userloadsofnumbers ones.

Quiero · 11/06/2016 13:40

I saw "mummy2mybubbas" (or something like that) - now that is fucking offensive.

Anchor because I don't mind what language people use themselves but if I'm replying to a poster and their name is nothing but swear words I then have to use those words myself.

There is a difference between arse and cunt - I realise there is an argument about when and why this started but generally people will be shocked if you use the 'c' word in that weird thing we call real life.

Quiero Flowers

That must have been awful.

No you just quote them and bold it and pick it to bits without even using their NN. Wink

WellErrr · 11/06/2016 13:54

well the user18467235427864892 accounts are accounts made on the app that have to be verifed before they can have a proper NN

I know but they're so annoying! Most places you just can't post until you verify your email. And it must be a recent thing?

ABCAlwaysBeCunting · 11/06/2016 13:55

I thought about changing mine to 'gosh darn' but didn't

Buttock · 11/06/2016 14:00

I don't find many names offensive but there's one these days with the F word and bitch. I find it horrible.

Surferjet · 11/06/2016 14:01

I agree op. It's just childish really ( oh look at me with a swear word in my username 🙄
And the daily mail ones? are their posts so interesting that they think the papers are hanging on their every word? Grin

I can't get worked up about it.

The ones "mumto3angels" or "bensmum" are much worse.

Someone was clearly paying attention in biology class weren't they?

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 11/06/2016 14:20

The Daily Mail do quote people from MN all the time though. Posters with anti DM nicknames aren't just imagining it.
