Angry birds on Aibu

In advance of the release of The Angry Birds Movie we thought it would be fun to let Angry Birds loose over the topic for the next four days. We very much hope you enjoy them but if you don't, not to worry; they'll be fluttering off in a few days.

I cannot believe that anyone would be annoyed by subtle advertising , it is my favourite thing about mumsnet. Another parenting site has these full page ads that are hard to click out off and drive me insane, which is why I only use mumsnet now. Personally I say keep it up mumsnet!

inlovewithhubby · 10/05/2016 14:17

You think the 'AIBU in association with angry birds' is subtle? I'd love to see your unsubtle.

SoupDragon · 10/05/2016 14:17

What did Thomas Cook do wrong? I can't remember!

Cindy34 · 10/05/2016 14:19

Sometimes I feel like an Angry Bird and other times I am a Halo. I love a Biscuit with my Brew but would prefer a slice of Cake or a bar of Chocolate. Do I deserve some Star's or a Flowers? Pity there are many hours left until Wine o'clock. Wink

Thomas Cook explanation here. Although to be fair they have since apologised and promised to learn/change so we should probably consider removing them from our list.

The Angry Birds film was actually pretty awesome

SoupDragon · 10/05/2016 14:27

Ah.... I thought it might have been that.

DailyMaui · 10/05/2016 14:42
Angry Bird But I like the tiny blue ones and the bomb ones best Angry Bird
JustineMumsnet · 10/05/2016 14:49

@WellErrr

Justine thank you for that response - very interesting! And laudable. Sorry for my snidey comment earlier.

I think the absence of advertisements for pretty much all of those products is a large (yet subliminal) part of why I use mumsnet.

Thank you for your moral and responsible stance! impossible to say in non patronising way, sorry!

Thank you, you've made my day and not been the least bit patronising Smile.

I'm guilty I actually want to watch Angry Bird my son isn't even old enough to sit up on his own let alone watch the film xD

wickedlazy · 10/05/2016 14:58

I'm also ignorant about Thomas Cook.

The adverts don't bother me at all, love the new Angry Bird aibu? Grin

BoatyMcBoat · 10/05/2016 15:12

Oh, I remember the Baby Show/Arms thing 'blowing up' Grin

HirplesWithHaggis · 10/05/2016 15:34

I may be the only person affected, but if I click on an AIBU thread it opens initially, then the whole thread turns into plain blue, with an Angry Bird in the middle, and I can't read the thread. Sad

I'm using Safari on an iPad, if that makes a difference.

Oh dear - sorry Hirples - that's not good. Will ask tech team to look at it.

I know someone who is being paid to dress up in an Angry Bird costume and hang around McDonalds in London this weekend.

Apparently they are only allowed to stay in costume for 20 minutes as they are very stuffy and hot. She has been given explicit instructions on what to do if a child is scared or cries. (Cry with them apparently, with a gentle flapping of the wings)

sizeofalentil · 10/05/2016 17:19

This is a free site that you're under no obligation to use - unless you want to start paying the staff (and can rally EVERYONE ELSE to want to do the same to make it commercially viable) and the site costs then don't whinge about the ad stuff.

sizeofalentil · 10/05/2016 17:20

Whoops, pressed enter too soon, sorry! Meant to add that wasn't aimed at anyone in particular - it's my own mantra for people who complain about advertising. Feel free to throw biscuits (and angry birds) at me…

BurnTheBlackSuit · 10/05/2016 17:25

Yay re. anti Baby Show. I left another parenting site because of their support of that. They had no morals.

BillBrysonsBeard · 10/05/2016 17:30

I love the Angry Bird
Think some people need a Torch to stop getting so worked up over nothing..

GrimmauldPlace · 10/05/2016 17:38

The only reason it annoyed me is because I've been telling DS the film doesn't have a release date yet and I'd keep an eye out evil mum. 'Twas working well until he appeared behind me and saw the big 'incoming May 13th' advert. "Oh Mummy, look! That's this week. We can go on the weekend now! You did say Mummy, when it's out we could go. Remember?"
Busted! Grin

FruStefanOla · 10/05/2016 17:41

I have no objection to advertising at all.

But this is what I'm seeing when I go into AIBU - I can't even screenshot it all in one go because the ad is too big - so I'm having to attach two screenshots, one is the top bit of the ad and the other is the bottom bit of the ad.

Who on earth at MNHQ thought that this was a good idea? Seriously? Angry

Well, if there was an angry vipers movie... Until then, Angry Bird will do.

Amazed so many people are angry about advertising on MN, would a monthly fee be preferable? You should see the gin bill at HQ. Looking at AIBU, I can see why it is needed. I'd install a gin tap if I worked there.

MePosieParker · 10/05/2016 17:53

Can you please get some advertising revenue off of the aubergine lobby? I quite like the emoticon. GrinGrinGrin

I think it's really rude to complain about (inoffensive) advertising on a FREE (to use, not run) site.
