In advance of the release of The Angry Birds Movie we thought it would be fun to let Angry Birds loose over the topic for the next four days. We very much hope you enjoy them but if you don't, not to worry; they'll be fluttering off in a few days.

Can fun, gossip and jokes not be intelligent? Again, insulting the masses there...

BillBrysonsBeard · 11/05/2016 12:31

I think most of the topic subjects are daft or just about simple human interactions but the posters responses are mostly intelligent and awesome. I love this place! I want to read about the simple stuff because that's what life is full of and most of us can relate to it.

inlovewithhubby · 11/05/2016 12:48

Bill - I think that's exactly it. Everyday stuff which might be simple but which invokes educated, intelligent, heart warming and often pant wettingly funny responses. Strong views, reasonable views, unreasonable views, outrageous and unlawful views sometimes, but they still provoke an overall picture of intelligent debate.

AdrenalineFudge · 11/05/2016 12:50

inlovewithhubby are you being an Angry Bird?

I never said, nor implied that MN is puerile and unintelligent. In fact shouldn't Soup and I be asking you that question as it's you that seemed to take issue with the "shameless" advertisement which is a requirement in order to keep this site functioning as it currently is?
I said in my PP that I find MN entertaining at times. I agree with you that there can be very thoughtful, insightful and intelligent debate but that those are few and far between - most of the time the site is filled with the life and times of parents or others just musing about day-to-day life and circumstances that they've happened upon. I enjoy that and wouldn't want this site to become some sort of PhD after-hours meeting association either.

inlovewithhubby · 11/05/2016 12:56

Adrenaline - see my last post. Seems we agree on content.

Not sure how a strong opinion on advertising and flagrant brand endorsement can be described as unintelligent - you may not agree with my view but you should be able to respect it as a considered one which happens to be different to your own. As I do yours.

SeasonalVag

"Mn can't you see the obvious sexist pun in using Angry Birds?"

Of course they can see it. That's precisely why they did it.

What next? The Relationships board sponsored by 50 Shades of Grey?

AdrenalineFudge · 11/05/2016 13:27

inlovewithhubby Of course I take on board your opinion, if I didn't I wouldn't bother replying. It'd be a barren land if everyone on MN always agreed with each other and an even worse one if everyone ignored everyone else's opinion.

See the threads that often pop up in Site Stuff asking for a 'Like' button - thank fuck that the majority always refuse it because this site is a discussion site. It doesn't have to be about the meaning of life or the universe, equally it doesn't have to be about the best way to change a duvet cover or eat a scone but I'm here because I like the discussion aspect of the site warts and all.

I personally find the less publicised boards a lot better for interesting discussions. For some, AIBU is MN and they'll never stray from there whilst others target AIBU specifically to provoke or goad.

To be frank, and I may be going off on a tangent now, what bothers me the most is the media perception that MN is full of hysterical, handwringing po-faced women.

I can see the joke in the pun 'angry birds' but that doesn't render me any less of a feminist or any less capable to contribute to discussion on serious issues when they arise.

inlovewithhubby · 11/05/2016 13:33

Nicely put Adrenaline.

FruStefanOla · 11/05/2016 16:47

Ah, that's lovely and neat ShamTech. Thank you Flowers

As I said upthread, I don't have problems with ads - just the ones that seem to invade my screen!

FruStefanOla you are welcome. I'm glad it's working now and apologies for messing it up in the first place.

paxillin · 11/05/2016 21:11

Can we have bomb the bird exploding when threads in AIBU go poof?

cleaty · 11/05/2016 22:32

Yes on a site with mainly women and lots of feminists, an obviously sexist sponsorship deal is never going to go down well.

Not really bothered about angry birds - my kids are too old for it really but that and the UNICEF banner are making the page jump all over the place - which is bothersome !

I like UNICEF - not so much cartoon birds

ghostyslovesheep · 12/05/2016 21:53

this is the only Tardis thing you need anyway Grin
