Angry birds on Aibu

In advance of the release of The Angry Birds Movie we thought it would be fun to let Angry Birds loose over the topic for the next four days. We very much hope you enjoy them but if you don't, not to worry; they'll be fluttering off in a few days.

NO. This does not work for me, sorry. I know you have to generate revenue, but no. x

SeasonalVag · 11/05/2016 03:40

Mn can't you see the obvious sexist pun in using Angry Birds? You're fools.

Kingsizecrochetblanket · 11/05/2016 06:13

I love angry birds! It's the little grunting noises they make to show they are irritated.
Grin

Personally think that formula milk should be allowed to advertise

That would be fine if the companies were ethical. Unfortunately they are not. Was it Aptamil who had to remove the phrase "closest to breastmilk" from their advertising because it was absolute bollocks? It certainly sucked a fair few people in (I breastfed but remember thinking that would be the formula to go for). The follow on adverts/packaging for formula are all filled with stuff that appears to be made up and that no one understands. I honestly don't think it is in anyone's best interest, apart from the formula companies, to allow them free rein to advertise.

Personally I snorted at the link between Angry Birds and AIBU. It's pretty accurate.

lionheart · 11/05/2016 07:42

I didn't know that MN has nothing to do with Thomas Cook now. Good for you MN.

AdrenalineFudge · 11/05/2016 08:51

SeasonalVag Get over yourself, if anything Angry Birds is quite a decent analogy wrt AIBU. And if it's really not to your taste you could always vote with your feet. Calling that sexist genuinely undermines sexism and the gender equality movement.

inlovewithhubby · 11/05/2016 09:09

Sorry adrenaline, I'm with seasonalvag and the others calling out the sexist connotations. It wasn't my first objection, nor does it constitute my primary one, but it IS sexist - reducing intelligent and often well informed debate to the squawking of 'angry birds' is both insulting and in line with common misconceptions about the gossipy tendencies of women, who are often referred to as 'birds' in a less than complimentary manner. Disagree with the advertising stance if you must, but stick this pairing in front of anyone with any sort of feminist tendencies and there would be outrage. I presume it was originally intended as a light-hearted joke but it's fallen rather flat. As many sexist 'light-hearted' comments do.

SoupDragon · 11/05/2016 09:17

reducing intelligent and often well informed debate to the squawking of 'angry birds'

Have you been on AIBU...?

RockMeMomma · 11/05/2016 09:18

I know someone who is being paid to dress up in an Angry Bird costume and hang around McDonalds in London this weekend....She has been given explicit instructions on what to do if a child is scared or cries. (Cry with them apparently, with a gentle flapping of the wings)
Grin
Thats both funny and ridiculous. Can you imagine how terrified small children would be to see this huge flapping bird coming over
when they are already upset. They'll have PTSD and a huge bird phobia afterwards. McDonald's will be paying out compo for years to come Grin

inlovewithhubby · 11/05/2016 09:18

I think there is a huge amount of intelligent debate on aibu. Admittedly I choose the threads I engage in quite carefully but I think you insult us all if you think differently.

paxillin · 11/05/2016 09:21

reducing intelligent and often well informed debate well yes, but Angry Bird are sponsoring AIBU Grin. I think they're funny, the movie will be great. Can't wait.

inlovewithhubby · 11/05/2016 09:21

Might mail woman's hour and see what they think of the pairing...id tweet but I'm a Luddite

ShamTech · 11/05/2016 09:23

FruStefanOla thanks for the screenshots. It really helps. We can see that you're on an older version of iOS so we're going to try and find an older iPad and replicate the issue so we can fix it.

ShamTech, I'm on an oldish (5 years?) MacBookPro laptop.

Although I haven't looked on my newer (17 months) iPad Mini yet.

SoupDragon · 11/05/2016 09:44

I think there is a teeny tiny amount of intelligent debate on AIBU and I think you insult all of us if you believe a huge amount of what is there is "intelligent"

CombineBananaFister · 11/05/2016 09:49

Well, shameless advertising worked on me - off to take Ds to see it Sunday, looks quite amusing Grin
Don't agree with the sexist malarky - mumsnet has men on it, some of the angry birds are male, the bird/female connotation just isn't there for me.

They just happen to be birds but could just as easily have been elephants/penguins/any other random animal so having an 'angry bird' moment is just having an angry moment for me.

AdrenalineFudge · 11/05/2016 09:49

Most of AIBU revolves around seemingly overbearing MILs, parking agro, ostentatious wedding plans, Facebook... etc etc. While occasionally entertaining, I don't think it counts as "intelligent debate."

Thatrabbittrickedme · 11/05/2016 10:14

I agree with every inclusion on the banned list - it is great. I also have no issue with the birds, we won't be going to see it because even my DC agree it's a bit shite, but I have no ethical issue with it being advertised or MN's commercial need to have some appropriate advertising.

I just wish Kraft/Modelez/Cadburys were on the banned list rather than the approved list.

I take note of the fact that TC wanted to pull their advertising after criticism on the site though (from the article linked above) I shall step up my complaining on the shitebury's marketing threads now I know it might work Wink

BoatyMcBoat · 11/05/2016 10:28

I used to play it a bit when I first got an iPad - 5 years or so ago. I thought most of the birds were male.....

sandrabedminster · 11/05/2016 10:59

Love it Justine, well done Wine

sandrabedminster · 11/05/2016 11:01

Wow at she of the jealousy thrown at Mumsnet and Justine!

I think well done to Justine and all the girls at Mumsnet.

inlovewithhubby · 11/05/2016 12:10

Soup and adrenaline - if it's so puerile and unintelligent why on earth on you on here?

SoupDragon · 11/05/2016 12:19

Soup and adrenaline - if it's so puerile and unintelligent why on earth on you on here?

Perhaps if you bothered to actually read what I said you would notice that I only referred to AIBU and what I actually said was that it wasn't filled with "intelligent debate". Nevertheless, your life must be very very dull if you are only ever interested in "intelligent". Personally, I prefer to have fun, dabble in idle gossip and joke occasionally.
