Trigger warnings

I was wondering why there are trigger warnings on posts mentioning child deaths.

Are they there at the request of the OP? Or was there some kind of agreement among the bereaved parents of mumsnet that they wanted them? If so okay I guess I missed it.

I have to say if not I find it quite offensive. I find a lot of things 'triggering' on mumsnet not least threads about living babies but I don't get trigger warnings. I've seen them even when the thread title is quite clear. What are they for? Why are they there?

I have been thinking about all this and have come to the conclusion that clear thread titles are necessary. I know a thread of mine did not have a clear title, so the trigger was put on. Fair enough it was upsetting and I apologise to anyone that was upset because they opened my thread.

It was our wish to raise awareness of meningitis but that is really a get out, a something to focus on, when it is over next week I'm not sure where I'll be
I am so sorry you are traumatised, I do understand I really do. I don't know what else to type but please know I'm on your side.
Sorry I can't find the right words to help you Flowers

Phequer I'm sorry this thread upset you that was not my intent and I don't think your loss is any less due to time.

I can't see why you oppose a trigger warning being put on any thread by request. This would enable you, me and everyone else to avoid their triggers.

Of course your loss is no less than mine

Sugar I admire your campaigning! We too have used our daughter's death to advocate for other trisomy families who have been discriminated against, denied care and neglected by the NHS but I'm not sure it helps, it doesn't make it easier. I don't know if that's what you find.

No you haven't upset me. I was upset last night over something entirely different. I have been to counselling and feel a little bit better.

I can't say I was badly treated by the NHS but the petition has helped to focus on something. As I said I don't know where I'll be next week when the evidence sessions are over. I have a job but its nothing hard so just see what happens. I'm on ad's which help.

TheDisillusionedAnarchist · 16/03/2016 23:56

I'm back at work soon will see how that goes. I work with babies. We and most other families with my child condition are badly treated by the NHS. It's a constant battle. In one evening I speak to three families about denial of care and then have to get Rumer's blog post up. If it takes me a lifetime I will change the discrimination against trisomy 18
