Trans people being allowed to compete against women in the Olympics

OhShutUpThomas · 24/01/2016 09:37

The Olympics are now allowing men who have taken hormones for 12 months compete against women.

It is NOT transphobic to say that this is grossly unfair and a huge violation of women's rights.

Women who have trained all their lives cannot be expected to compete against people with male bodies and who will be allowed roughly 4 times the normal female testosterone levels.

It's not on. We can't stand for it.

Please get behind this mumsnet. Someone needs to take a stand.

It's NOT transphobic to state that this is unfair. It really isn't.

Tech have come back to us on trending, here is what they say:

Every 5 minutes we get the list of top viewed threads from Google Analytics and we just display the first 5 of those.

So it is the most viewed threads, not the most posted on.

Re squaring the circle Iam, do you see trans rights conflicting with women's rights?

Thanks RebeccaMumsnet.

I don't suppose a 350 post thread mainly consisting of the word 'Protest' IS very browse-worthy.

Elendon · 26/01/2016 12:19

And be under no illusion, going back into competitive sports post having a baby is an incredible achievement, physically. Winning in your chosen sport, post baby is a mega achievement. Each forward step female athletes make is an achievement for all women.

Of course Maryz! We still haven't got 'Most active' back and that would show a different result. Hmm

I undrstand your reasoning completely, iampissed. Feel free not to answer, but i am just wondering, will you be joining us in protesting the IOC decision elsewhere?

I don't think it's a narrow example.

Having the freedom to compete and make a living from competitive sports is a fantastic achievement for all women. It's brings us into equality with men.

Obviously women will never compete against men in a competitive sporting way, because there are obvious physical differences. Bannister cracked the 4 minute mile 62 years ago. No female athlete has managed this.

Why would pre op transwomen want to compete with women in the Olympics?

How about making it a discussion of the day the Mumsnet ??? Can you really not see the depth of feeling people have on this?

Elendon · 26/01/2016 12:48

But you haven't disagreed.

You are against the IOC decision.

Whether you abstain or not is not the issue.

Sports is a huge financial generator in this country. Women being a part of that is important. Why shouldn't women get an equal part of the cake?

Way back in the early 19thC women's football was more popular than the men's. It generated more money.

This decision is idiotic. And almost everyone who has posted online about it -e.g. in the Guardian comments section - agrees that it is idiotic. And hugely discriminatory.

How can women be actively discriminated against in this way. Why is no one speaking out?

Please read the comment from the transsexual person on the Guardian comments. It is enlightening.

venusinscorpio · 26/01/2016 12:54

Why should women lose out in favour of biological men, in such an absurd way? Sport is all about biology, not feelings. And this is not just about trans women, I'm sure you can see the potential for abuse?
