The great emoji debate

Afternoon everyone,

So: emojis. We've had a few questions about these over the last few days. Some of you love them and some of you loathe them. The truth of the matter is that they came into being as a side-effect of a technical fix that we did; we didn't set out to introduce them (and in fact, didn't expect you to discover them quite as quickly as you did ). On the question of whether they stay or whether they go, it's really up to you lot. We can get rid of them again; equally, if you like having them, we're happy for them to stay. Over to you ...

Unfortunately ShamTech you'll never get a definitive answer from "us lot".

Some want them banned, some want them banned but only from thread titles, some want them to stay, some (OK, probably just me) want the MN faces to be dragged kicking and screaming in to the 21st century like the rest of the emoticons are and will accept a lack of keyboard emojis in return.

99.99% of MNers don't care enough to comment.

So do you translate that as a "yes keep them" or a "no fuck them off"?

BTW - it was possible to use some non-mn emoji prior to the latest glitch. Not all emoji worked but some did. I have a list . .

Likewise I've first did the upside writing months and months (years?) ago.

How on earth do you post upside down letters without an iphone? That was really weird.

You go onto a website which allows you to do funny writing. You can google it. It just uses characters from other scripts e.g. Cyrillic, Arabic, which look like upside down Latin letters.

Where does the upside down writing come in handy?

Come onnnnnn, guys. We've been doing this since, liiiike, 2003 on msn messenger. And they didn't even have cheat sites then. You had to look them up on character map. Get with the program

It's handy if you're 15 and want to update your screen name. Obvs.

I'm trying to see if there is a way to do coloured text. I'm google'ing 👀

I can see beer and a hand in Clancy's post but the third thing is a tiny square.

You won't get coloured text on here. That's not how it works. These hacks only work because you're able to access special characters. Coloured text involves changing the CSS coding which you can't do unless you iz a l33t haxxor.

Colours is waaaay beyond me!
