The great emoji debate

Afternoon everyone,

So: emojis. We've had a few questions about these over the last few days. Some of you love them and some of you loathe them. The truth of the matter is that they came into being as a side-effect of a technical fix that we did; we didn't set out to introduce them (and in fact, didn't expect you to discover them quite as quickly as you did Grin). On the question of whether they stay or whether they go, it's really up to you lot. We can get rid of them again; equally, if you like having them, we're happy for them to stay. Over to you ...

I don't think I have the correct equipment to use them thankfully.

How about some of these for Christmas Maryz?

BertieBotts · 08/12/2015 19:53

I like the picture ones. Hate the faces, especially the irritating smug satisfied smiley and the hearts for eyes one and the crying rivers of tears while laughing.

I don't mind if they stay as long as you ban people who use these Grin

That's a fair compromise, as long as it's a permanent ban.

Sparklingbrook · 08/12/2015 19:59

The hearts for eyes one is purely for teen girls when commenting on each other's selfies I think. Or pictures of Harry Hairstyles.

The crying with laughter one is never meant kindly. Sad

BertieBotts · 08/12/2015 20:05

These two! 😊☺️ Even worse, they look like normal smiley faces on some keyboards, but they're ugh. Always seen on facebook with "Love my lil princess n lil man" or "Look at this £3,000000000 bling my hubby got me for my birthday" or "I'm so blessed!"

Sparklingbrook · 08/12/2015 20:07

What is the difference between the two BB? Is it technical?

ClancyMoped · 08/12/2015 20:43

I can imagine that there would be a whole new level of passive aggressive'ness if the emojis are allowed to stay. 😈

Maryz noooo don't want to stop you posting! Just give you a chance to spot and deal with any typos. And that's a generic 'you' btw, especially those of us cursed with the iPad and iPhone and their notoriously fierce autocorrects.

Clancy I have no idea how you do that. However could you tell me how to do it on my phone, so that I can irritate my daughters with it?

KILL THEM WITH FIRE.

No seriously, please take them away again, I cannot cope.

We definitely need a viper emoticon MNHQ!

Or a viper signature.
I'd do skulls and bones too.

Ffs somebody ban Clancy before we go blind.

This is exactly why you need to pull the plug on this emoji crap, MNHQ.

BertieBotts · 08/12/2015 22:19

They look different to me, I didn't actually know there were two different ones but they are slightly different on some devices I guess.

ClancyMoped · 08/12/2015 22:26

Don't worry I'm not posting this nonsense on other threads but I think this thread is fair game

ShamTech · 08/12/2015 22:29

@SauvignonBlanche

Can't you fix the 'glitch' and get rid of them for good Shamtech?

We can get rid of them it that's what everybody wants. It's not that simple, but can be done. You'll then be limited to normal letters, numbers and standard punctuation in the posts. Plus the MN emoticons of course. That's the purpose of this thread. To decide whether to keep them, get rid of them in thread titles or get rid of them altogether.

Over to you again.

I think there needs to be a proper vote/poll.

MrsBertMacklin · 08/12/2015 22:35

Please get rid, we'll be hashtagging in lieu of actually expressing emotions next.

ClancyMoped · 08/12/2015 22:36

MNHQ. I suggest waiting and seeing what happens once everyone has got over the excitement of being able to use them.

It might be that they don't get used very much.

Do you know what percentage of users can see them?
