The great emoji debate

Afternoon everyone,

So: emojis. We've had a few questions about these over the last few days. Some of you love them and some of you loathe them. The truth of the matter is that they came into being as a side-effect of a technical fix that we did; we didn't set out to introduce them (and in fact, didn't expect you to discover them quite as quickly as you did ). On the question of whether they stay or whether they go, it's really up to you lot. We can get rid of them again; equally, if you like having them, we're happy for them to stay. Over to you ...

Another 'no' vote from me, I like writing and reading actual words not looking at a string of fairly bland, ambiguous little pictures. I'm happy to keep the old mumsnet icons though, they are fine if used in moderation! :)

Just to clarify, do you mean the iphone emojis like thumbs up, clocks, animals etc? I don't like those.

I don't mind the original mumsnet smiley faces and flowers etc.

Mainly because this is the best in the world.
I like the smartphone ones to communicate with my DCs but I feel like the threads are becoming overrun and yes, it's one step away from a ticker.

I'm not a fan, can't we just chat like grown ups in normal writing?

Clancy has a lot of teeny squares and some upside down words.

Yeah, it's shit because I can't see any of ClancyMoped's writing, just a string of black squares, but have no problem seeing other posters's colourful contributions, apart from the occasional black square.

So the experience some people get is seeing post from A - lots of black squares

Lots of replies - "Wow, did you see A's incredible post?"

Me - NO.

It's too hit-and-miss. Get rid!
